  1. Riiiiiiight. Alex Meyer pitched 3.2 innings and started once, inexplicably getting the hook at the first sign of trouble. JT Chargois pitched less than one inning (0.2) in Minnesota.
  2. Nope, she's Cersei, first of her name, blah blah blah, other words. No regency there.
  3. Ooh yeah, forgot about that little story.
  4. I wouldn't want to see it, either... But it makes for engaging storytelling. What does Jamie choose in that situation? Revenge for his fallen sister or the oath he swore to Brienne? It'd be his Rubicon moment; he chooses a side and can't go back.
  5. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but we still don't have any idea of the motivation for the walkers to invade Westeros, do we? That could be a bombshell. I hope it's more than "they're really evil".
  6. They have to be because the kids are aging in real time. It's not believable that less than two years have passed when Bran, Rickon, and Arya are well into their teens.
  7. I'm thinking we'll see a wholesale evacuation of the North.
  8. This entire season has been one fiasco after another. *shrugs* I don't get too upset about any single move because I'm baffled by most of them. I'd lose my mind if I put too much thought into it.
  9. If the story keeps going at the pace it did this season, I hope the Wall falls with no fewer than 6-10 episodes remaining in the series (it'd be a good way to end season seven). Given the scope of the battle and the forces involved, the war for Westeros should consume most, if not all, of a season (eight). I expect the walkers to make it to the gates of or near King's Landing.
  10. Sam has to be woven back into the story but it might not need to happen until the grand finale... He could be one of the elements that tips the war for Westeros in favor of the humans. If he reappears, I think it will be in one of two ways: 1. He'll be at the Wall to help fortify it with new knowledge that ultimately fails, allowing the walkers into Westeros. 2. He'll ride in, deus ex machina style, and save the day after Dany's dragons couldn't stop the walkers. The battle for Westeros will probably have two pivotal moments: the breaking of the wall and ultimate victory.
  11. The South seems to have real disdain for the North. Couple that with the broken lines of communication in the North and it's not unreasonable the Maesters didn't have a firm grasp on the situation. But it seems like a convenient bit of storytelling, for sure.
  12. Yeah, it stretches credulity a bit but Oldtown is literally on the opposite side of Westeros and the Wall is the lowest of low priority. It's where everyone sends the people they don't want anymore.
  13. My recollection is hazy but I believe reference is made to the Battle of Blackwater Bay smoldering for weeks... And that took place mostly in water. I'd be surprised if Wyldfire didn't burn for weeks given that it seems to be a slightly magical form of Greek Fire.
  14. Disclaimer: I am not defending Terry Ryan because we're way past that point, in my opinion. But... His comments were pretty innocuous if you read the entire quote. It was more about shaking up the roster than anything Grossman had done to that point (comments which were made literally one day after Grossman was promoted to Minnesota). "Not too long ago, somebody gets in touch with me and our scouting department and said Robbie Grossman would be OK,” Ryan said. “So we signed him and we were rewarded. These are types of things I need to be doing. We’re in dire straits here. This just isn’t going well at all. So I have to be prepared to change it up and move some pieces. Whether you call it shuffling the deck or shaking it up. “Some people are calling it panic. I get that, OK. We’re in a mode here where I better be creative enough to do some things to help along the cause. We’re struggling to a point where we haven’t been able to right it. So I’m going to have to do some things.”
  15. As for the time-traveling and teleportation, I just chalk it up to "the last episode spanned weeks or even months". There are many "issues" that lend weight to the idea: - Varys was all over the damned place - Olenna knew about the King's Landing explosion - Jamie traveled 1/3rd the length of Westeros on horse to see Cersei crowned - Arya travelled all the way from Braavos to the Twins, probably on foot (the Twins are inland) - Jon held a meeting with all the houses of the North and the North is nearly half of Westeros Chalk it up to Tolkien-style storytelling; tell one story that takes weeks, move backwards in time to the next story, repeat as necessary.
  16. That makes sense, though. Once Maester Aemon died, all hell broke loose at the Wall and while the Maesters might know bits and pieces, it makes sense they don't know most of the story. My assumption all along was that communication channels with the North were entirely broken with the chaos at Winterfell. It's not as if Ramsay had a vested interest in making sure the Maesters were up to speed on things... If anything, his interests were in keeping them in the dark.
  17. Yep. The Twins will almost surely need a 13 man bullpen again because their rotation is, once again, terrible. But going with a 12 man staff for two weeks while you hold on to Arcia over Ramirez or Boshers makes a lot of sense. Both players are waiver fodder... You can go get that guy at any time if you need him. And by then, maybe you've made a decision to demote Park for a month and let him face AAA pitching, clearing space for Arcia. Lots of options, the Twins chose the worst one.
  18. Even *if* Ryan is willing to trade Dozier, fans shouldn't get upset if he isn't moved at the deadline. Dozier is a better offseason trade candidate than a deadline trade candidate.
  19. That's highly unlikely. Ryan has never shown reluctance to trade within the division (a good trait of his, unfortunately, his good traits continue to dwindle by the year).
  20. Square is free. The only fee you pay is a 2.75% credit card transaction fee.
  21. Oy. Come on, Levi... Now you *are* arguing semantics. Assets have value. Arcia had no value, which is why he was traded for peanuts. He's a lottery ticket. No value today, future uncertain. If he was actually an asset, Ryan could have traded him for something more than a pittance.
  22. Eh, we're just arguing semantics at that point. I said bad asset management... But Arcia wasn't actually an asset. His value was non-existent. His production was way below average. But bad roster management? Absolutely. No doubt. Especially on a team slated to win 55 games. No reason not to keep a guy like that around to see what happens.
  23. True, but if anyone wants a lesson why patience is a virtue, set an advanced search on TD between 5/20-5/30 of 2013 and search "Joe Benson". Lots of embarrassing posts in there, some from the same people using SSSS to back their argument today. Yeah, the decision was *maybe* bad asset management but only if Arcia becomes an actual asset. What pissed me off is how UNNECESSARY it was at the time. This organization doesn't seem to have any direction.
  24. Agreed 100%. I hated the decision. I'm just not a fan of people filling a thread with Told Ya So's based on two games.
