  1. I adore Obama but it'd to vote for another familial dynasty in this country.
  2. I'm a total Star Wars knob. I have long said that the most incredible Star Wars stories told could be in other genres. I'm hoping that rogue one begins that trend by making it a ground level war movie. And I hope we see a Kenobi western.
  3. Is it? I may have to catch up, then. I drifted off in season three, picked up later again and made it to season four, then stopped again. The fact that everyone on the planet had been to that same island and everyone Ollie knows became a superhero was too much for me to bear after awhile.
  4. But to be fair, the Arrowverse has close to ten seasons under its belt. The Netflix universe has four, three of them introductory seasons.
  5. I quit my job and go back to Cleveland. And yes, I'm serious about that. If the manager is dead-set against your strategy, you're his boss, and he dictates policy to you, that's not a place I continue to work, particularly if my skills are in-demand and I have plenty of other opportunities.
  6. Well, yeah, that's what I meant. Plouffe should be out of the picture so no competition from him. Vargas should be on the roster but doesn't have good RHP splits. Park is a question mark and should be relied upon for nothing. A Mauer/Vargas platoon makes the most sense to me. It doesn't have to be a strict platoon but the numbers should lean toward Mauer vs. righties and Vargas vs. lefties.
  7. A self-flagellation retreat, I heard.
  8. Crazy Eyes sighting! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/michelle-bachmann-sexual-assaults_us_57fed96de4b05eff55817fff?ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000063
  9. It's best if we all just learn to ignore Twitter and the fringe lunatics that reside on that platform. The site is full of people who your racist uncle believe are too far gone to reclaim. All it does it conveniently reinforce the worst stereotypes of both sides and allow us to brush aside legitimate concerns voiced by not-crazy people.
  10. Yep. This is new territory. 6-8 months ago, Foxconn laid off 60,000 workers on their iPhone line and replaced them with machines. The population of St Cloud is 67,000 people.
  11. Are there 25 people better than Mauer in the organization right now? No. Joe still has a specific skillset that's useful. And if there aren't 25 people better than Joe, you don't cut him. Bench him, maybe. Platoon him, sure. But I don't see the point in cutting him.
  12. Must-read article about rural America from Cracked. That's not something I expected to say today. http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-reasons-trumps-rise-that-no-one-talks-about_p2/
  13. No. No, it would not. You may as well say that Dozier's value doubles if he "learns" to play first base.
  14. Sure, most of us strongly disagree with most of Beck's platform. But I respect the man. He's shown a modicum of decency on a variety of issues. If the GOP is going to stick with the religious right and let them drive the platform, I'll take Glenn Beck over Cruz, Santorum, Hannity, et al 11 times out of 10. In times like these, I think it's important to not villainize everyone on the other side of the aisle. If everyone who disagrees with me is some level of evil, it makes it hard to identify and root out the real evil lurking in the GOP (namely, Trump and his white nationalist movement). So, I respectfully disagree with Beck but generally, I don't think he's a bad person.
  15. Arizona is now light blue on FiveThirtyEight. lol So, yeah, Trump.
  16. *falvey hits play* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7vtWB4owdE
  17. About once a year, Glenn Beck does something incredibly sane. Last time around, it was his appeal to hear out the Black Lives Matter folks because they have legitimate grievances that need to be heard.
  18. When I say "scorched earth ", I don't mean Trump style scorched earth. I mean riling him up with calling him a coward and the sort of stuff Clinton has generally avoided to this point.
  19. Yeah, Shades' early statements about Diamondback make very little sense after the character is introduced. You're expecting some nefarious, powerful, intelligent multi-national mob boss and instead you get the crazy guy with no pants who's screaming at the mailbox outside your apartment.
  20. I don't know the rules but were Trump to back out of the debate, I suspect Clinton would go scorched earth on him for a hot minute and then cancel the debate. The way things are shaking out, she doesn't even need to show up and tell the world about her policy uninterrupted. She can take a well-deserved night off, go buy some malt liquor, and get rip-roaring drunk. Inversely, she could use that night to reach out to Republicans and give them an out, offer an olive branch. Basically, a presidential incumbent speech before the election even happens.
  21. Yeah, exactly. He's Ledger's Joker - a completely unbelievable character when you get right down to it - without the surprise, acting, lunacy, and dialogue to pull off that trick. The Joker introduced himself with the pencil trick and the audience was all on board after that point. The character didn't even have to be great, it just had to not screw it up after that scene. And the filmmakers ran with it. And without all that stuff, that character becomes run-of-the-mill entertainment fodder. It's the same problem suffered by Apocalypse in the latest X-Men movie. Bad guy is angry, bad guy does bad stuff, decides the world must end because reasons, more things happen, no one cares.
  22. She's good on her own but was great alongside Cottonmouth. I do not understand why that dynamic was broken halfway through the season. Even if she ended the season on top with Cottonmouth out of the picture, how they got there would have been engrossing storytelling. I mean, the way they dropped the molestation bombshell on us was fantastic, unfortunately they ended that story approximately eight seconds later. Baffling. The most intense part of the story happened in literally 20 seconds and then was over.
  23. Definitely no on Milone. What to do with Santiago is more up in the air for me. If you're confident you can pick up a decent pitcher in the offseason, you jettison Hector. If you're not confident in that happening, maybe you consider keeping him for one season. $8m for one season isn't going to significantly hurt this team, particularly given the free agent pitching class. And the guy has "might not suck" upside.
  24. I'd say the Tea Party was the most recent - and possibly the most damaging - scourge of the party but it's been snowballing for awhile. 1. Nixon started it with his appeal to southerners, who began losing faith in the Democrats during the New Deal and through the Civil Rights Act. 2. Reagan cautiously nurtured these people and started lending an ear to the pro-life whackadoos, which gave them a foothold and a platform to continue radicalizing. 3. George HW Bush continued that trend, using less caution and lending more of his ear to these people. 4. Gingrich blew the door wide open with a platform of obstructionism, one the Tea Party revitalized in a big, bad way. 5. Dubya was somewhat temperate as president but how he got there in the primaries and catering fully to these people was pretty despicable and a huge step forward for their movement. This is where they began to call the shots. 6. The Tea Party. Blech. No need to comment on this movement.
  25. While typing that, I kinda put my finger on what I dislike about Diamondback. He feels like a badly templated character from a 90s Image comic or the Dolph Lundgren Punisher movie. He's a guy we've seen before without a significant twist to make him interesting, portrayed by an actor who isn't doing that template any favors. It's simplistic, boring, and something we've seen 100 times in the past without any differentiating features to set him apart from the pack.
