  1. Yep, I even looked to my friend - a real baseball guy - and asked "Am I ****ing missing something here?" and his reply was a shrug.
  2. I'm not one to critique literally every move by the manager but I'm getting real tired of watching Baldelli talk an analytics game and running a Gardenhire game.
  3. Me too, but WHY? It makes absolutely no sense. I'm not blaming Sano, I'm blaming Baldelli... but, again, WHY?
  4. Oh, that's not on Sano, in my opinion. But the positioning defies any understanding of baseball I've experienced in my adult life.
  5. Oh, for sure. If you want to argue it's been close, I'll concede that point. I happen to think the Twins have spent the night calling heads while 25 consecutive tails have been flipped. That's not predictable, nor is it indicative of actual performance. The Twins have been crushing the ball and have virtually nothing to show for it. On the flip side of that coin, they've made some defensive WTF moments that gave the Yankees (nearly) free runs.
  6. Yup... Whatever the Yankees have done right, the Twins have managed to do wrong. Like Sano standing on the front half of the dirt with two outs and missing a ball by a few inches. WHAT THE HELL WAS HE EVEN DOING THERE
  7. It's definitely a part of the game but positioning only gets you so far. Again, it's possible to say the Yankees have played a very good game defensively while also saying that the Twins have run into a brick wall of bad luck.
  8. Results, process. But hey, go ahead and be snarky while looking at the things that can dictate a single baseball win while losing a baseball season.
  9. Honestly, Garver and Kepler have basically killed any chance of the Twins winning a game. Well, that and Baldelli casually managing postseason baseball games like it's June 3rd.
  10. I think I agree with that. GIven the sheer size of data samples, baseball probably regulates itself to normalcy more than many other sports.
  11. The Yankees have played very good defense but defense doesn't help you when the ball is pushed three inches further than your glove, which is my point. The Twins have drilled the ball and have nothing to show for it. I suspect the catch probability on some of these balls is *extremely* low. And that's just baseball luck. It's great for the Yankees they made good catches but if a few of those balls drift literally a few inches in a different direction, it's an entirely different game. It's possible to say the Yankees both played good defense while also acknowledging they were put in the position to make that catch on a ball that has an extremely low catch probability, which is just bad luck that happens in baseball. But I have NO IDEA what the hell Sano was doing on that hard hit ball at him. WTF was he doing that close in on the dirt? I was baffled at the time and after discussing it with a friend who was watching with me, neither of us could figure out WTF a third baseman was doing that close to the plate with two outs.
  12. Dunno, maybe hitting the ball over 100mph a half dozen times and having nothing to show for it affects everything you just mentioned. You're looking at results, I'm looking at process.
  13. Good defensive placement isn't what made that Judge catch or any number of other balls in play. Or when Rosario missed a homer by a foot while the Yankees scrape one over the wall by six inches. Baseball is a hugely luck-based sport. The best team wins most of the time, but not all the time, not even close. It's just a bad night for the Twins that has come at the worst possible time. But also, I'm mad, just like you. But not about tonight, this is just how baseball works. But I'm furious about games one and two.
  14. That's not how baseball works a significant percentage of the time, unfortunately. There's a reason the best team in baseball loses to the worst team roughly one-third of the time.
  15. Five of the six hardest hit balls of the game and I think four of them resulted in outs.
  16. This is the most Twins/Yankees game I've seen yet. The Twins are actually outplaying them but literally everything is falling three inches in the Yankees' favor. Ugh, what an awful way to end the season after watching this team look helpless in the first two games.
  17. Almost surely not. It'd be great if Graterol ends up contributing to the 2020 team in June or so but this front office needs to pretend he doesn't exist this offseason.
  18. Cleveland lost the division by what, eight games? And it's not as if the Twins skated through the season without injuries. The best defensive centerfielder on the planet played 87 games and almost every other position player went down at least once, many of them twice. Cleveland had all the opportunity in the world to win the division and failed miserably once they had to face baseball teams that weren't cellar dwellers. You're underselling the Twins and overselling Cleveland horribly.
  19. I'm pretty sure this front office views Graterol as a starter until he proves decisively he's not a starter.
  20. I think it's pretty easy to separate the Chapmans of the world from the Verlanders of the world. I'm okay with my favorite team passing on the Aroldis Chapmans of the world 100% of the time. I'm still not crazy about Sano being on this team.
  21. I was just talking to a friend about this. 100 wins is impressive but given the home run record on top of that, it's likely the 2019 Twins become a sad footnote of baseball, just like the 2001 Mariners... If anyone remembers the 2019 Twins at all. The season hasn't been a failure because they lost three straight games, but it IS embarrassing and if anyone in the future thinks back to this team, it'll be wryly.
  22. Jake Cave is a terrible centerfielder. Now, I never thought Cave's arm was terrible so I don't fully understand moving Rosario but no effing way should Jake Cave go anywhere near centerfield in a postseason game.
  23. Dunno, that 2006 Cardinals team has the 87 Twins beat.
  24. Arraez has looked particularly good tonight but I will die on the hill that he should not have started game one.
