  1. Not even close to the same game. Were half the pitchers throwing 98mph in 1991? Pretty sure that’s a hard no.
  2. I was extremely intoxicated at the time, take anything I said about game one with about fifty pounds of salt. Once I sobered up, I just scratched my head and wondered what the hell I had witnessed. What I remembered witnessing, anyway.
  3. Yawn. Different game, different time.
  4. Ae you literally arguing that a 90 loss season builds more enthusiasm than a 100 win season that ends in epic failure? That's just... not a... smart... argument...
  5. Fun fact, the Twins winning percentage versus the AL divisions: ALC: 66% ALW: 68% ALE: 63% That seems pretty much like a team that just beat other teams.
  6. The ALE was barely more competitive than the ALC. If any season didn't really play to those tropes, it was this one. The only real difference was the two Sox teams.
  7. Yep, he seems rather oblivious to the fanbase in general. Which I'd actually be somewhat okay with if he managed like an analytical general. Instead, he talks like Epstein and manages like Gardenhire.
  8. I agree with a lot of this but two things stand out: I don't think Wade is a liability, I think he's just young. Arraez does not have the arm to play third over the course of a season. But overall, you're right that the Twins played a pretty bad defensive alignment and it cost them a ton of runs. Say what you will about previous regimes but they never let this bad an alignment happen while the Twins were contending (and that's not a coincidence).
  9. Uh, but why? The guy is predetermined to bat leadoff literally once a game. It's not as if the Twins struggled to get people on base, they just flat-out failed to drive them home.
  10. I know some of you may have scuffled with them a bit but the reason you're still here - and the reason Twins Daily exists, period - is because the moderators have held a steady hand this entire season. While it's easy to take one of their decisions personally - trust me, as an owner, I've been chastised by them myself - realize that there is a reason that literally every other baseball forum you've been around has either been: 1) A hot mess 2) No longer exists 3) Probably both 1 & 2 The reason we're still here is because of the moderator crew, full stop. And it's high time we applaud them for once instead of ridiculing them. So here's to the moderator crew, we should thank them all: Ashbury Carole Keller (SQUIRREL) glunn nicksaviking Riverbrian diehardtwinsfan twinsnorth49 Sconnie USAFChief snepp SwainZag Hosken Bombo Disco stringer bell After this season, I think it's high time we take a moment and give them all thanks for the work they've done to make this site happen.
  11. Yes. While I may bicker and argue with the lot of you over the course of a season, this site has truly become a haven of Twins fans who can talk smart baseball without being asses during that discussion. But first and foremost, we need to give lots of love to the moderator crew on Twins Daily that makes this place what it is. While the writers provide the content, the moderators are the people who sift through all that content and keep this a great place to talk baseball. Here's to the moderators!
  12. That's exactly how a manager should deal with this situation, though I would have awarded bonus points for Rocco saying "Whoa, I kinda ****ed up there but that's not on the players". As a manager of any profession, take personal responsibility but never place blame on those below you, even if they make more money than you. Edit: He actually alluded to this a bit by saying he hadn't been here before and learned in the process. That's not exactly what I want to hear but it's not awful, either.
  13. Had the Twins played (and been managed) this way for the first two games, we'd be looking at a game four. Nevermind that I wouldn't be so effing angry right now. I like Baldelli but he needs to be better next season. I glossed over some of his weaker points but he walked such a different game than he talked that SOMEONE needs to call it out and he needs to learn from the experience.
  14. Yet the Cubs won the WS just a few years ago using the same method. Yes, higher pitching draft picks return better than lower draft picks. I mean, duh, of course. But the failure rate is so much higher that crafty teams are taking a different approach to drafting. For example, the Rays have drafted a pure* pitcher in the first round once in the past 6-7 years. Are they wrong, too? *pure is in reference to the Rays dabbling with two-dimensional players but ultimately, I think that will play out in a typically Rays confusing way by the end of things, as the pick they made was neither a great pitcher nor a great hitter, but they'll probably turn him into both
  15. Maybe the Cubs and Cleveland are stupid about drafting, too. Mike, don't even pretend that you or I know how to draft baseball players.
  16. We're a long way from knowing whether the current drafting people will make the same colossal failures.
  17. Sure, but claiming great positioning on every play where a guy happens to be standing where a ball is hit is maybe partially good positioning but also involves A LOT of luck, especially when you're talking about a guy standing basically where he usually stands in a straight-up defense. I can't remember when it happened, maybe July, but the Twins shifted every player over about a week *exactly* how the numbers dictated and were absolutely killed by it because the coin kept flipping the other direction. And the inverse happened, too. More than a few times I watched Cruz or Cron or whomever make a bad swing and get a double out of it because they hit the ball that direction like 10% of the time and defenders were completely out of position to get to an 80mph ball that should be an easy out. That's baseball.
  18. You mean the part where the shortstop stood pretty much exactly where a shortstop stands in baseball? That wasn't placement, it was just a great play on a ball hit just a few inches too far one direction.
  19. Who's going to beat them? Cleveland? The team that cut payroll going into 2019 and saw attendance decline this year? Whereas the Twins should have a considerable amount of money to spend this offseason... Now, whether they spend enough is an argument to be tackled in the coming months but they definitely HAVE the money to spend.
