The Pavano signing was a good one if you have two better pitchers in front of him... Something akin to a Scott Baker and a Francisco Liriano. The problem is that those two completely collapsed, not that the Twins signed Pavano. Pavano was a great acquisition and a decent signing. The type of move a contending team makes when they need to round out their roster.

The thing is that I don't think that's enough. 8.5 games is a lot of ground to make up and two starting pitchers probably isn't enough to do it, especially considering that the Twins offense isn't set up to carry a bad pitching staff. It's decent but not great, not enough to overcome 2-3 bad starts every five games. If the Twins magically acquired Zack Greinke, it'd be possible. Both the offense and bullpen is pretty good, enough to beat up on a pretty weak AL Central if the rotation is in order. But right now? Nah, I don't see it happening unless PJ Walters drinks a bunch of Gummy Juice and becomes Scott Diamond, Part II. And there's my 80s cartoon reference for the day. -

Yep, Mauer was the player of the game. Willingham may have had the game-winning RBI but Joe was the one who stood in there and had that 10 or 11 pitch AB and knocked Chapman off his game. It was the very definition of a "professional at-bat".

No. Morneau's value will be higher this offseason if he continues to play and his value is extremely low right now. The Twins have very little to gain by moving him, outside of dumping a little salary. On the other hand, Justin is popular with the Twins and the fans. That has value to the franchise. May as well let him play through at least this season and then consider the options.

They wouldn't axe the service. It would be a massive mistake. That's where the future is going and MLBAM is smart enough to know that. They might increase the price or do any number of things but they won't kill the service.

When it comes to the financial powerhouse that is Iowa, it's better safe than sorry. You can't let any of the midwest teams get the upper hand by showing their games to an additional 40 people.

Yes, if only because they have no other viable options. The Twins are a bad team and now is the time to let young guys take their lumps and hopefully progress.

Interesting. I have no idea what kind of legal ground MLB is on with blackout restrictions but I know I'd love to see it done away with... Not that there aren't workarounds to avoid it in the first place but it's kind of a pain in the ass to do it every time a game is blacked out.

Yep. It was a great game so that's not entirely surprising. I'd like to see every game hit 100 posts, good games to get over 200. There's still much to be done to get the forums where we think they should be.

Well, it's not as if he had Doumit suit up for the ninth. We got to see Son of Sal gut Burton through that inning. Player of the Game, obviously.

Yeah, that swing brought back memories of pre-concussion Morneau. That was the first thing I thought when I saw it. Flailing at a pitch low and away, looking like he made poor contact, and then the ball travels 300+ feet opposite field.
