ashbury Verified Member Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Yeah, I was thinking he probably meant show-off triples but I figured I'd leave it in his words. It was, as I recall it, a reference to Sano being chided for admiring his home runs, but Buxton being cheered for stretching for triples when the game maybe didn't indicate it... or something.

ashbury Verified Member Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 His buddy ended up getting 17 foul balls that game. Oakland has a small foul territory. I've done that there many times myself, on days that sold out.

ashbury Verified Member Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Three hours later it's right back where it started, with two wheels in the ground. We'll just have to put both of them down. In retrospect it was a mistake buying a lawnmower that was painted yeller.

ashbury Verified Member Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Ooh. Sounds like Mastroiannnnnnni might be hurt. Last night I was on the phone talkin' Twins with my son. The name Mastroianni came up. My wife was listening in, and said "oh, is he that master-bater guy?" My son of course cracked up. She remembered my Bruno anecdote from Spring Training.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Oh well, can't winnem all. The good thing is we win when we lose! Every loss can help get a better player come June and boy do we need better players or else a lot more lipstick.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Gardy once again saves his best relief pitcher for a made up situation which might never arise, rather than pitch him in the most obvious high leverage situation. Again, someone explain to me how Gardy has no bearing on the results?

Again, someone explain to me how Gardy has no bearing on the results? This sounds exactly like what every other manager in the league does.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Where has anyone said that Gardy has no bearing on the results? This type of comment tends to be inflammatory. The following comment is always made, when regarding whether to let Gardy go after the year: "Gardy has no talent to work with, the W/L record is not his fault." It's really not meant to be inflammatory, there are plenty of posters in here who have that stance.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 This sounds exactly like what every other manager in the league does. There are managers in baseball who use their best relief pitcher in a tie game in the 9th, rather than save him for a situation that might not arise. I agree there are too many who automatically defer their "closer" to save situations only, but that shouldn't give Gardy a free pass on it. Like the saying all of our mothers told us, "if your friend jumps off a bridge...."
