John Bonnes Site Manager Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Ken Rosenthall tweets that the Twins were one of several teams scouting Chris Young's last start as a National yesterday. Here was our writeup on him in the Offseason Handbook: Chris Young | RHSP Age: 33 (5/25/79) | 2012 salary: minor league contract 2012 Stats: 4-9, 115 IP, 4.15 ERA, 80/36 K/BB, 1.348 WHIP This year Young was coming back from a repaired anterior capsule tear in his throwing shoulder, the same injury that Johan Santana had to come back from. He didn’t make it back to the majors until June, and while his starts were inconsistent, his overall stats were acceptable. He was awfully good a few years ago before the injuries, so there is upside here. However, he’ll likely need to show that he can stay healthy for at least a year or two before he draws any significant offers. Estimated Contract: 1 year, $3 million FWIW, he wasn't anything special in spring training, striking out 9 and walking 7 in 16IP. Odds are, he's going to be better than someone in the Twins rotation, I just don't know who yet.
