Fantasy Baseball strategy

Hey Guys-

 

So after swearing off fantasy baseball 3 years ago, I have been coaxed into taking over a team that was abandoned during the 2016 campaign.  Doesn't sound like a big deal no, until we take into account that we get to keep 3 players based on the round they were drafted the previous year.  Free Agent pickups are able to be kept in the last round of the draft which just about everyone is doing and creates tremendous value.  Anyways, since the previous owner didn't make any pickups, I don't have that luxury.  

 

I have the 5th overall pick and 5th pick in odd rounds, it would be the 8th pick in even rounds due to snake draft settings.  My keepers are Goldschmidt (1st round), Sale (3rd round) and Freeman (7th).  It is a 12 team H2H snake draft league, since I am keeping three players, all in odd rounds, does it make any sense to attempt to trade back w/ a team for the entirety of the draft to pick up earlier 2nd and 4th round players, and in theory maximize my value on my keepers that I am keeping, having them a few picks later?  Or am I over thinking this strategy?

You could also do the alternative and look to deal for a keeper that has even-round value, given that it impacts you less (say in place of Freeman).  That said, I'd definitely see if you deal your 1-5 for another first rounder and really anything of value.  The same with the 3-5 pick.   You might not get as much value as you'd hope given the format and owners ability to infer your strategy but it's worth a try.   I imagine you'd only net later round picks, and I'm not sure how successful packing your 1-5 with even rounds to move up in those even rounds would be...
