  1. But they've always known that they'd have to pay more than the glitzy teams to get the same player. So why make a spectacle all off season if they werent planning on making the significantly best offer?
  2. I don't know, I think if TB wants Kepler as a main part of an Archer deal they're the one's overpaying. The guy can't hit lefties, he's almost certainly going to be a platoon player. But no interest in Cobb, the guy can't strike anyone out which is this staff's biggest problem. Unless the can get Arrietta on a one year deal, pass on the free agents, none of them have the ceiling to be what this team needs.
  3. I don't want Napoli, but if he's a requirement to get Darvish I can find enough half full glasses to make me less shy about him. Like his obscenely low .225 BABIP last year, what looks like a career outlier in terms of BB% and his spray chart looks a lot like Brian Dozier's and Target Field tends to help that profile a ton.
  4. It would be great if the Twins can get some resolution to the Darvish drama because if they don't get him there's not another starting pitching on the market I'd care to sign to a multi-year deal. In the (more) likely (than not) scenario where the Twins don't get Darvish, I'd be interested in a bigger spend for a RH bat who could see time in the outfield.
  5. What does aggressive dialogue sound like? Are they talking like pirates? Or is it like when you enunciate so boldly that spittle flies from your lips?
  6. The social contract GB has with thier community is that all fans will constantly be drunk and bragadicious about the team and the team will pretend Green Bay isn't a dump.
  7. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/outcome.php?player=502043&time=&startDate=03/30/2007&endDate=02/04/2018&s_type=2 Sure, but he never changed his approach. If you look at the last two months of 2017 you'll see a large increase in his four seamer and a large decrease in the sinker. He'd never done anything close to that before. If he goes back to being a sinkerball pitcher after finally having success after he stopped, I'm done with him. But he'd have to be foolish to go back to what wasn't working.
  8. I'm not counting on any starter but Barrios at this point, but Gibson's ups and downs have never coincided with such an increase in strikeouts before. I had never been a Gibson guy as his sinker usage drove me crazy. I started to get interested last off season as I thought the new FO would model their Gibson agenda after the Cleveland staff, that is have him focus on his stuff that misses bats. He didn't do that in the first half, but he absolutely did after his call up. I think there's much more reason for optimism with him now than in the past when he was intentionally trying to put the ball in play.
  9. I don't see anyone who wants Darvish caterwauling about the Mauer deal. It doesn't and never has been a problem with payroll. Whatever deal Darvish gets this year is going to look like a bargain come next winter after the big clubs jump back into the deep end of free agency. Next year is going to usher in a new level of spending, if the Twins don't get Darvish now, they might as well just pour all their resources on developing an ace because they won't be able to compete for a front of the rotation arm again unless a salary cap is instituted. It's now or never. If it's never we're probably going to have to start over.
  10. Archer is cheap financially, getting Darvish or Arrieta should not preclude the Twins from getting him.
  11. Clearly the offense would be better with him, I was just suggesting 20-30 games may not be season altering as we saw it wasn't last year. With or without Sano this team's issues are still in the rotation.
  12. Right now all I really care about are the 9 innings that the team will need to fill for game 163.
  13. I would have agreed before last year, but the team seemed to play better without Sano. Not saying the team is better off without him, just that the offense still worked quite well with him rehabbing.
  14. The Twins seem to overcome 1-4 each year, they should be well practiced and prepared for any of those uncertainties. Number 5 is an issue ONLY if this team goes into the season assuming Santana is going to be one of their top two pitchers. It's starting to look like he might though, so that's alarming. This team really should be looking at Erv as a distant 3rd option, even a 4th if they want to aggressively content.
  15. Cobb and Lynn can't get this team out of the WC round, so pass, I'd rather not sign anyone and work on trades instead. This team has to stop taking half measures. And if this team was never going to give $150M for Darvish, what was with all the big talk early on? They had to know that's what it would take.
  16. Could really use some good news right about now Twins. It would be a great time to swoop in and tell Minnesota fans that we're not insignificant.
  17. Well we can either suck it up and roll with the changes or be content to watch baseball the way WE want to see it and let it die with our generations. If MLB wants to outlive us it can't cater to Twins Daily poster, it already has us. It has to cater to the new generations who at this point have no interest. Sorry, the only way to stop evolution is to cease to exist. I'll take change over killing the sport for good.
  18. It was a bit tongue in cheek, mostly because I know how stodgy baseball and baseball fans can be about anything new particularly when it comes to technology, but none of those questions are viable reasons to deny the idea. All of them could be easily ironed out, just like in football.
  19. Yeah but unless they're filming it with audio for a live action Bull Durham show the nuance is lost on the fans. Scrap the mound visits by everyone, let players wear ear pieces while they are on the field. That'll speed the game up.
  20. Et tu Jim Kaat? https://www.twinkietown.com/2018/1/18/16904626/minnesota-twins-front-office-hire-jim-kaat-as-special-assistant-mlb Man, when they put the band back together there are no generational boundaries. I hope they get him back in the booth even if it's just for an inning or two.
  21. Nobody here was screaming to see Haley, the selection of him was nearly as head-scratching as Kinley was this year. The only shiny thing related to Haley people wanted to see was his plan back to Boston.
