Twins Lose Danny Coulombe to the Orioles
nicksaviking replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good. The lineup looks like a disaster with a collection of extremely low ceiling vets. Buxton, Correa, Miranda, bathroom break. The starting 2B and 1B are out and the team's best hitting prospect, who can play both spots, is going to sit in AAA because there's somehow STILL no room for him? How many injuries will it take to see Julien, let alone the rest of the young hitters? The rotation looks really solid, but unless we actually think this is a World Series contender, is it worth punting a year of experience on the top arms in the minors, who have already shown they're ready to learn at the MLB level? Most will likely struggle for a year, so we're going to do that next year now? When the offense should be ready to take off? At least we get to watch the young guys in the bullpen. Do we really want more of the reliever versions of Donovan Solano taking up bullpen spots? And the options in AAA are not worse. Ober, Varland, SWR and Winder would all be preferable to Coulombe. And maybe that's where they can get the needed experience. -
Kyle Farmer Can’t Be Overlooked for Twins
nicksaviking replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I liked the Farmer move. But I like him as a super utility guy who’ll play 4-5 games a week. His versatility is his most valuable trait. I don’t want him starting or platooning at one spot while Polanco is out.- 15 replies

Twins Lose Danny Coulombe to the Orioles
nicksaviking replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What does that have to do with Coulombe? If they kept him wouldn’t you be more frustrated they didn’t find someone better than him? -
Twins Lose Danny Coulombe to the Orioles
nicksaviking replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I want the most talented guys on the roster. They stuck with the vets on offense and in the rotation over the more talented young guys, at least they’re not doing it in the pen. I’m really stumped by the frustration over this. The Twins basically lost a LOOGY except the rules changed so LOOGYs are forced to pitch a full inning and against righties. This is not a big deal. People are acting like they cut Dennis Eckersley, not a guy vying for the last spot on the roster. -
Twins Lose Danny Coulombe to the Orioles
nicksaviking replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think you mean the opposite? Sands made the club because they CAN send him down, and will need to often and early. What are they going to do a week into the season when they have Hoffman and Coulombe in an overused pen and need to send someone down? Moran can't be the only option. They going to send down Duran and Jax if they need fresh arms? Just cut the super fringy guys, and Coulombe is super fringy. He's a 33-year-old soft tossing, junk throwing lefty who pitched 12 innings for the club last year. I'm failing to see the fasciation other than with which arm he throws with. -

That's what was said about Jax last year. I'm actually looking forward to seeing what Sands does now that's he's going to be a full time reliever. Most of the best relievers are guys who were given up on as starters. -
Twins Lose Danny Coulombe to the Orioles
nicksaviking replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was more excited about Hoffman than Coulombe, but I guess these moves make sense. Moran and Sands can be optioned when fresh arms are needed, which will likely be often with the early season schedule. -
Right, Castro is already redundant with the uber-flexible players they already have on the roster. Where are the runs going to come from?!? When did it become fashionable to make offense the lowest priority of putting together a baseball team? Many people like the depth, and others, like me, want the prospects. So isn't stashing Castro in AAA the absolute perfect scenario? He's there when you need him. You don't need him.

2023 Other NFL Offseason News
nicksaviking replied to nicksaviking's topic in Minnesota Vikings Talk
Am I misinterpreting the Lamar Jackson situation? Because my sense is that Jackson won't hire an agent, because he doesn't want to actually pay the agent. Is there more to it than that? Because if that's the reason, this guy is a gigantic and foolish miser. -
If they're already carrying Farmer, Solano and Gordon, I see zero reason to also carry Castro, who can't hit.

2023 Vikings Off Season Thread
nicksaviking replied to nicksaviking's topic in Minnesota Vikings Talk
Only reason I see is to try to sell more tickets for a .500 club. But you know what's worse than purposefully trying to rebuild and ending up 5-12? Throwing away equity and the prime years of your young players by pushing back the rebuild and going balls out yet finishing 7-10 instead. -
I'd prefer to take a chance on a gas station burrito.

Ranking the Twins Top-5 Hit Tool Prospects: 2023
nicksaviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
"Many evaluators considered Lee the top college hitter in the 2022 MLB Draft, so the Twins were ecstatic that he fell to them with the eighth overall pick." Pretty sure this sentence must just autofill on every TD article that references Lee. I've had to have read that exact phrase a dozen times by now!- 14 replies

Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Relief Pitcher
nicksaviking replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Except for Pagan, I like the pen. I'll probably like it better once they start filtering in the former starters like Winder and Henriquez. That's not to say I trust the pen, that'll never likely happen with me, but that's also why I don't like the idea of big ticket free agent relievers, I'd never trust them any more than the crapshoot free agent relievers, it's just an overall volatile position. Few guys are ever good for years on end. It's a rollercoaster for most, especially when changing teams. But speaking of crapshoot free agent relievers, Jeff Hoffman is exactly the type that gets me interested. The guys who are one year removed from being a starter often break out. And if Brooks Baseball is accurate and his March velocity is 96+ MPH compared to his first year as a reliever when he was hitting 94 MPH, the Twins might have gotten a back-end reliever on the cheap.- 47 replies

2023 Vikings Off Season Thread
nicksaviking replied to nicksaviking's topic in Minnesota Vikings Talk
Angry about what?!?! Losing a 50-year-old receiver and basically nothing else? Or are they angry in the same way I'm annoyed, they wanted to just get the tear down over with and didn't want to drag out a lame duck season? Pretty sure I'm in the minority, so it must be the first one. -
Royce Lewis is Ready to Rock
nicksaviking replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like the fact that he explained why he'd likely head to Wichita instead of St. Paul upon his return. Without the warm-weather explanation, there surely would have been some consternation about the "demotion". -
I agree. Ober is one of the best five starters. If they need the depth, I'd rather them promote Maeda from the bullpen than Ober from AAA.

2023 Vikings Off Season Thread
nicksaviking replied to nicksaviking's topic in Minnesota Vikings Talk
The Vikings odds are closer to 0% than they are to 5%. Either way, I didn't want him back. KJ Osborn is better than him at this point, but keeping Thielen on the roster will still put him in the starting lineup and Cousins will still look his way too often because he defers to his comfort blankets. We can't keep these aging expensive players forever, even if it's a local guy. -
Raise your hand if you had the Twins at 14 of their 26 players over 29-years-old come 2023. I thought they'd be amongst the youngest teams in the league at this point.

2023 Vikings Off Season Thread
nicksaviking replied to nicksaviking's topic in Minnesota Vikings Talk
You're not talking about the Vikings? I don't think they made an offer, but either way, the Vikings chance of winning a Super Bowl is also next to zero. At least Carolina has started their rebuild. The odds that Thielen makes it to year three of his contract and that Carolina is good in year three is probably slim. But it's still higher than the odds that this group of old washed up Vikings will bring home a championship. -

I too hope Mattison isn't the starter. He's decent enough as a backup, but he's not a dynamic runner, not even a little bit. Even if they don't draft someone, I hope Chandler or Nwangwu end up getting the bulk of the carries. I don't really understand this move. Why not wait to see what other RBs end up left and sign them to league minimum? There will be some left that are as good as Mattison. -
Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Right Field
nicksaviking replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sorry, but Kepler's problems, at least last year, were not related to luck. Maybe the Exit Velocity was good, but his LD% was only 19.9%, his FB% only 34.4% and his GB% 45.7%!!!!! That's not luck, that's using a hitting profile of a leadoff hitter who's value comes form stealing bases and doesn't even try for extra base hits. Too many groundballs isn't luck, it's poor hitting. Even if Kepler's batting average rises because he's getting more seeing-eye singles due to the shift removal, he's still not cutting it as a corner outfielder. He needs to be driving the ball, preferably over the fence.- 22 replies

Elijah Moore is a forgotten guy already too. If I was a fan of a team that didn't have a real QB the last two years, and I had those two as 2nd and 3rd year WRs, I'd be extremely excited now that I had a real QB. Now if I was a fan of that team and thinking about Lazard, Cobb or OBJ getting targets instead? I'd be sick to my stomach. Is there a less productive free agent position group than WR? Veteran WRs from other teams seem to work out once in a blue moon, even when they're good players, which these guys aren't.
