  1. That's too bad for May, I expected him to take the 5th spot in the rotation over Berrios. With that said I believe Berrios should get the 5th spot over Mejia and Duffey. Berrios has shown improvement from last year and seems much more prepared to start in the Bigs this year. Mejia can come up once either another injury happens to any of the other starters get hurt. Duffey? No thanks, with being a two pitch pitcher he won't be any better of a starter than he was last year.
  2. I wouldn't think Romero would pitch for the Twins this year because of the innings limit (unless he can pitch unrealistically well like a WHIP under 0.90 and ERA under 2). What I meant to say is it would be best IMO if Romero splits his season between Chattanooga and Rochester then he can repeat AAA to start the season next year and make his debut next year.
  3. There was an article written about Romero in the Star Tribune by Levelle E Neal and it stated that the Twins were going to start Romero in Chattanooga. Take it for what it's worth IMO. To me I would HOPE Romero starts in Chattanooga as he is on the 40 man and barring injury should make a push for the Twins rotation next year. Plus by most accounts Randy Rosario is not a starting pitching prospect any more.
  4. What I meant is neither Gibson or Santiago should be part of the Twins future plans in the rotation especially since they are blocking Berrios, Mejia, and Gonsalves (to a lesser extent) from the rotation. Now will the FO be smart enough to remove Gibson and Santiago from the rotation, probably not, but they should.
  5. Honestly I would hope both Santiago and Gibson are traded before the end of this season. Neither starting pitchers seem to be a part of the Twins future and would likely be nothing but a back end starter anywhere else.
  6. I just hope he is no so obsessed with his fastball that he reinjures the elbow because he pushes himself to throw his fastball so hard, also I hope he embraces improving his change as with his fastball even a decent changeup will help him become a better starter. I just don't want the kid to ruin his pitching elbow.
  7. Romero was pretty impressive in his first spring training game...1 ip 0 hits 1 walk and 2 k's. I read he hit 98 mph 3 times. Plus he sounds real confident, yet not cocky as he did state that he had "work to do on his change up". Can't agrue with these early results though...
  8. Move Randy Rosario and Keaton Steele to the bullpen. Neither one of those two translate to solid starters anyways. Put Romero in the rotation instead. I just feel in the case of Romero (and Gonsalves, and Jose Berrios) that they need to be challenged and putting them in a level they have already dominated won't help them in their development. Plus in Romero's case if he starts in AA this year he should be in the Twins rotation next year. As long as he is healthy I don't want to wait till 2019 or later to have Romero in the Twins rotation.
  9. I was quite impressed with Romero last year. Honestly I think as long as he stays healthy I think he definitely is a top of the rotation starter. I would hope the Twins simply put Romero in AA to start the 2017 season. With him on the 40 man his options will run out quicker and since he dominated in his 11 starts I see no reason for him to repeat a level he succeeded on. Plus if the goal this year is a full regular season (120-130 innings) then to get Romero to the Twins staff in 2018 it would seem smart to split his time between Chattanooga and Rochester this year so Romero can repeat the start of the 2018 season in Rochester just waiting for the promotion to the Twins staff some time in 2018.
  10. Seth, just curious but do you think Thorpe can repeat the same type of success that Romero had last year? I mean with having 2 years off should help in getting Thorpe's velocity back to where it was prior to his Tommy John surgery, but I suppose the real test is how well Thorpe can use his secondary pitches.
  11. I feel like whatever holds true for Kohl Stewart is true for Gonsalves. I mean if people can hold out hope that Stewart can improve a bit why can't Gonsalves? Perhaps I missed it but it seems like the concenous is Stewart could improve a bit, and Gonsalves isn't as good as his stats show. It is perplexing how much "love" a pitching prospect like Kohl Stewart can get and how much "hate" a prospect like Stephen Gonsalves gets when they have pitched the same amount of years in the minors and are the same age.
  12. If Berrios isn't in the Twins rotation by early May I would be a bit upset. He's not going to pitch poorly in AAA, unless he's injured and in that case he would miss time being on the DL. I think it would be a great injustice to hold Berrios back until June or July if he is pitching well in Rochester. I guess in short I want to see that the Twins FO commits to Berrios. And jerking him around and not treating him like a key to the team's success is a good way to try to turn Berrios into another Matt Garza (attitude wise). Plus if the Twins could have the patience to bring back Trevor May as a starter after a rookie season that saw him almost have stats identical to Berrios then the Twins can have the same patience with Berrios.
  13. I hope we get to see a lot of Mejia in the Twins rotation (along with Berrios and hopefully Gonsalves). I was impressed with the trade to get Mejia and he should be ready to pitch in the rotation this year.
  14. What if none of the starters are really struggling? How long do we keep Berrios in the minors? Berrios is too important to keep in AAA for a 1/4-1/2 the season.
  15. Same here, and I'd also be disappointed if Fernando Romero is in advanced A ball as well.
  16. At the least I would hope Romero starts in AA at the beginning of the season and forces Rosario and Steele to the 'pen in Chattanooga since he already dominated A+ ball. Then if you start Romero in Chattanooga then at the least he will end his season in Rochester if not get a shot whether in relief or a start or two in the Bigs next year (not likely but well there is a chance). Starting Romero in Ft Myers almost guarantees he might not even reach Rochester this year even though he should be there by year's end.
  17. I get it. But at the same time once he goes to Rochester and goes 3-0 with a 1.05 ERA, 0.88 WHIP 11.0 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in his first 4 starts and May or who ever else is struggling and the Twins are just as bad as last year would the decision to keep Berrios down in AAA look to be a good one? Especially if what Berrios needs is more 1 on 1 time with the Twins MLB staff?
  18. Honestly I am all but certain Berrios is going to the minors. But I still think it is stupid to put him there for again after he pitched there (AAA) in 2015 & 2016. He's not going to be challenged by AAA hitters, plus there is next to nothing he can "learn" in AAA that will spell success in the Bigs. Perhaps he needs to pitch in the bullpen a bit so he can better acclimate with Big league hitters. Flop him for Trevor May if you want May to be in the rotation. Look both Johan Santana and Francisco Liriano started in the bullpen and transitioned to the rotation I don't see why the Twins don't do that instead of shipping him somewhere he will outright dominate.
  19. Just curious but what kind of upside does Lachlan have? I know he just played in A ball last year but then again he was just 19 and put up great stats across the board. His 1.77 ERA makes me think he just might potentially be better than expected.
  20. Great to see Gonsalves do well in his 1st start! If he does well (which I think he will) that'll put him on a faster track to the bigs (there will be no way he will start in AA next year) by putting him in Rochester to start the 2017 season.
  21. Next year will be interesting for our minor league prospects. At this point Stephen Gonsalves looks to be a lock to join the Twins rotation. The big question is, will he struggle mightily or will he have as smooth as a transition as he did from A+ ball to AA ball. And also for next year how far will Fernando Romero go? He HAS to be added to the 40 man for next year or we lose him for sure. And what happens if he pitches as lights out as he did in Ft Myers? With an overpowering fastball and developing slider if he has a partial season in Chattanooga like the ones he had in Cedar Rapids and Ft Myers it will be awfully temping to bring him straight to the majors from AA.
  22. I would have had Lachlan Wells up there my self. A 1.77 ERA and one of the main cogs in the surprising Cedar Rapids staff. Not to mention he is only 19. With his growth (now 6'1ish" 185 or so) there is potential for his stuff to get better ala Lewis Thorpe. Just my opinion. Can't really argue with the picks though. Pretty solid top to bottom.
  23. Defiantly Stewart needs to repeat AA, unlike his draft mate Stephen Gonsalves. The worst thing the Twins did was have Stewart develop a sinker. He has become like Kyle Gibson 2.0, not the Texas fire baller we thought he was going to be when he was drafted.
  24. No surprise here who the starting pitcher of the month is. A 0.28 ERA in the month of August, that's just pure dominance. The only thing the Twins could do wrong here is keep Gonsalves in AA next year. Are the walks a little high, yeah. But this off season all Gonsalves needs to do it work on control. Last year Gonsalves had to work on development of his two breaking balls (curve and slider). Now that those pitches have shown considerable improvement all that is realistically needed for Gonsalves is to work on control. I know it seems wierd but it seems Gonsalves has much better command (see low hr totals, low BAA, low whip, and low slugging pct against) than his control. I think he should at least be in the 50's for most MLB minor league top 100 prospects lists next year.
