Or maybe just sign a starter who isn't tied to a QO ~ Do Anything Realistic Via Incremental Salary Hikes ~

Here's a model that keeps them below $150M until 2022...keeps the Core...extends Dozier and Joe...adds $25M for a starter (Darvish in this case) picks up Otani (it's a 50/50 chance for everyone at this point) and budgets 4/$26M for a closer If the Twins are in the playoffs (nothing guaranteed) each of those years and we use the 50% rule for Payroll this should be doable...or somebody will be doing some creative accounting Make your own model using the Twins Payroll Tool

Not to change the topic but I'm struggling with TwinsDaily math... 27 outs made by one team, got by the other team in a 9 inning game 60th out gotten by the Indians would be like the end of the 2nd inning of game 3?? Why the focus on the 60,61,62,63 out being gotten End of Math Class...resume quantifying and qualifying what failure is

Exactly why how Falvine manages the Young Core's extensions will be their legacy Watch what happens with Houston in the next few years...their young core much like the local 9 will need to be kept together and will more than likely set the market for negotiations with most Twins Corea - Buxton Altuve - Dozier Springer - Rosario/Kepler Bregman - Sano Kuechel - Berrios Not saying they are exact matches but the decisions will be mirroring what the Twins might have to do
  7. tvagle
Exactly! It's time to... Do Anything Realistic Via Incremental Salary Hikes!

Spot on Mike...we've gone that route...I know, this is Falvey's specialty...it will be different with him at the helm and all that other mumbo jumbo Even as the Messiah of Moundsmen this will take a years the Twins don't have to wait Let's break free from being 12 Years a Slave to pitching development and make next years Pohlad Production a hit just like brother Bill would... Do Anything Realistic Via Incremental Salary Hikes (D.A.R.V.I.S.H if you're in to acronyms or an astute, unnamed moderator)

Right Mike...the hope is Berrios would give up one year of FA @ $20M in 2023 with club option on 2024 @$20M
  10. tvagle
I agree...it would be nice to lock up more FA years and looking at Berrios alone a longer term contract is more achievable...when you look at the whole team and future needs for locking up the core, do you gamble longer on a position player or a pitcher? I just think Berrios will produce at a level that will warrant the accelerated figures I'm using here...production and I believe market inflation will take salaries much higher than current arbitration numbers and cost of a #1-2 starter will be $20M by 2023
  11. tvagle
The challenge for Falvine moving forward will not only be in predicting which one (hopefully all) of the young core will become cornerstones of the club. But, more importantly, structuring future extensions that don't hinder the ability to move some of them should the need arise That will be their legacy or the anchor that sinks their ship!

Love the Series Seth! I was a little more optimistic in my Keeping the Band Together Model for Berrios 18 • $0.750M 19 • $1.500M 20 • $4.000M 21 • $8.000M 22 • $12.000M 23 • $20.000M (would add option years at $20M at the end if that's what it took) My accelerated salaries are due to the Mach-a-Harper affect everyone is predicting in 2019 Would love to buy more free agent years if possible...and we'd only be Dollars away from that We both came up with the nearly the same package...just a few years shorter Seth • 7/$46M - Twins Payroll Tool • 6/$46.25M

The time is now for the Twins to make the next step and to me it's quite simple: Do anything realistic via incremental salary hikes This may take longer for some to comprehend but I'm sure the astute members of Twins Daily will see through this plan quickly while others may take several posts before it sinks in. Winning in '17 and the corresponding drop in the next draft warrant finding "our Keuchel" by any means without sacrificing the arms, legs and bats that will make extensions for the core possible by continually providing minimum wage replacements for 3-6 years per player If the trade route is pursued the margin of error (misses) becomes much smaller...when all it costs is a few million dollars the misses don't doom the franchise for years...besides, we've carried dead pool dollars for the past few years so there should be a line item in the budget for it now We've all grown tired of the wish and a hope approach to Free Agent pickups it's time to: Do anything realistic via incremental salary hikes!

Maddox is the second tier coach...Bosio was as good as gone when Hickey was let go by TB...Joe's getting the band back together http://www.tampabay.com/resources/images/dti/rendered/2014/10/01WEB_RaysCoaches102714_750_14112775_8col.jpg

5/25 seems like it might based on this from Jason Churchill ,,,It's unlikely Darvish matches the deal Zack Greinke signed two years ago -- $206.5M over six years -- but a deal somewhere between the contract extension Stephen Strasburg inked with the Nationals -- 7 Years, $175M -- and Johnny Cueto's six-year, $130 million pact with the Giants last winter is a reasonable expectation. Strasburg - $175/7 = $25M AAV Cueto - $130/6 = $21.67M AAV PREDICTION: Yankees -- 6 Years, $152M $25.33 AAV May have to add a few years but $25M seems to at least be in the same Area Code

Neither is winning a playoff game let alone a series...this fan is tired of waiting, i'm ready for anything different or new to the off-season approach
  21. tvagle
Greatest thing about the off-season and Twins Daily is being able to dream and have those dreams smashed by reality...or several posters with a different dream If's and But's aside...it's time to make a run at a true #1 that MAY increase the odds of landing a PROJECTED can't miss Pitch/Hitter In this screenshot of the Twins Payroll Tool the Young Core gets extensions...Old Dogs get resigned...a #1 Pitcher gets overpaid and you can pick who's best to re-sign in 2024 I would think $25M for 5 years would at least get a seat at the Darvish Thanksgiving Day Table?

    If 2 + 2 = 5 then there's a chance that $120M / 5 = Yu

Hindsight 20-20 and all that garbage...this is spot on Nick. It took major cojones to hold out for more than one hope for a starting pitcher in return Now...if Falvine can convince the Front Office that the time is now to move on a $120M Ace...this time next year you'll be writing about Yu Darvish and the AL Rookie of the Year Looking forward to that article Nick

Maybe we should start the 6.5 year countdown to 3,000?
