  1. I think Plouffe is tradeable for a nice piece but we would have to throw in a nice piece with him to get interest. Not sure what that would be but that is where the scouting department comes in. Can our scouts come up with a diamond someone is willing to give up if we package Plouffe with someone else that they want? Mets, Tribe and Royals all could use a 3rd baseman and in this case I wouldn't hesitate to go within the division. I would make sure I keep Polanco just in case Sano doesn't work at 3rd he might be able to transition there. For 1 year Polanco as utility guy is not the worst thing. Nunez this year proves there are ABs to go around for a utility guy if he warrants it.
  2. Gladden only knew 1 speed, full bore. If you aren't at that speed you shouldn't be in the game. That was the way it was. Dozier is quite a bit like Gladden in that he wants to score runs and to stop them from doing the same. I don't think either of them care one bit if it comes from a booming double followed by another hit or a hustle infield single, steal and then a bunt followed by a sacrifice fly, either way they scored a run. Do it enough and your team wins games. Same way with the pride in defense. Sprawl out and save a base, it could have turned into a run later in the inning. Defense isn't all about outs, sometimes it is defending 90 feet at a time.
  3. I completely agree on both points. If he can cut his Strikeouts by 10% and be completely productive in 145 games then he can be in the conversation as the best 2nd baseman in baseball. To limit him to 145 though will require somebody off the bench to put them in a position where everybody feels comfortable doing it though.
  4. John Gordon for me is a broadcast icon. I miss him but am happy he is going to get his well deserved honor.
  5. I have no issues with the "lack" of spending/moves this offseason but I expect/hope that they use these "low" payroll years to go higher than they are really comfortable with when all the young guys need a Mauer type contract. Not expecting them to keep the whole band together but I do expect them to keep several of them.
  6. I for one am fine with what they did this year. My hit or miss is going to come down the road when there are guys like Buxton, Sano, Rosario, May and Berrios to sign. I doubt they will be able to keep the whole band together for 8-10 years but I expect them to use some of the savings from these "low" payroll years to go above what they are comfortable with.
  7. No, that actually means whoever is not a prime fielder at his position should move. If that means we are talking about the 4 of Mauer, Sano, Plouffe and Park that puts Plouffe as the player that doesn't move. You are right in that Mauer should be in the running to move but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, But back to my first post. Having one of Mauer,Plouffe,Arcia or Sano on the bench every day is not a bad thing over a long season. If you can't/won't do the role asked of you then maybe you aren't interested in winning and I don't care who you are. Play 5 of 7 games and show me that you should be in there for 6!!
  8. I will agree that I got ahead of myself a little. I do think that it should be May and Nolasco competing for the rotation spot with a possibility of Berrios or Duffey just blowing the doors off and getting a slot but I think the proven track record May has will "win" him the bullpen job and if Nolasco and Milone are healthy and haven't imploded in spring training they should be on the roster initially, but like I said with a very short leash although I wouldn't give a whole lot of leash to any of the starters esp if somebody is dominating in AAA. IF and that seems to always be a big IF they can keep somebody "stretched out" in the pen then it might make sense if they were that 6th starter ie Nolasco but it never seems like they can get over 3 innings out of a guy who is on the roster. I would also have a different thought about May if we had one more quality arm in the pen, but he would have to be someone with May type stuff and I don't see that happening.
  9. Another possibility is a number of players including Santanna last year have been dinged for performance enhancers while taking something they "knew nothing" about in their home country.
  10. There is a reason the Yankees won so much in the late 90's. They made a deadline deal for Lance Berkman to be a bench bat. Lance Berkman was a multiple year all-star but before an injury to someone else he was a bench bat for the Yankees. There is no roster crunch unless the players or manager make one. Having one of Park,Mauer,Arcia,Plouffe,Sano on the bench is not a bad thing. Pitching wise it is the exact same. Having both Berrios and Duffey start at AAA is a good thing because the Twins WILL have to have 7 starters at least over the course of 162 games and while it would be great to stick Nolasco and Milone in AAA there are rules. Santanna Gibson Hughes Milone Nolasco All on a short leash because of Duffey and Berrios in AAA. If they are not willing to go on DL for a phantom injury then cut them because they are not into winning.
