  1. OK, Josh, you are due!
  2. A HR from Mauer right now would tie the game and erase the bad taste from his GIDP. Please, just one HR Joe.
  3. I wish him all the best, but also wish that Twins had not blown $3 million on a poor wager.
  4. I like a lot of the posts to this thread, but think that Riverbrian's is the best. I wish that he could actually become the GM.
  5. It does appear from the following link that Mauer may be leading the league in GIDPs -- http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/GIDP_leagues.shtml
  6. Maybe he has been instructed to play it safe to avoid another concussion?
  7. Does Mauer have a high rate of GIDPs this year, or does it just seem that way?
  8. Baker has a solid record with the Twins. You can see his stats here: http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/stats/_/id/6261/scott-baker What stands out to me is that over the last 7 years, the only year in which Baker made it to postseason was 2010, and he pitched only 2.1 innings in that postseason game. I checked Baker's stats to test my gut feeling that he has disappointed me a lot over the years. Baker is solid for part or most of the regular season. But when playoff time comes and we are hoping for a hero to shut out the evil Yankees, Baker is almost never on the mound. Would the MLB rules allow the following deal???: -- $1 million base -- $1 million bonus if completes 100 innings -- $2 million additional bonus if completes 150 innings (so Twins will be in for a total of $4 million if he can pitch 150 innings) -- $1 million additional bonus if completes 175 innings. -- $1 million bonus for each playoff game that he is starter (which could be $6 million of ADDITIONAL dollars if he was Verlandering us into the World Series. I suspect that the rules stated in MLB's contract with the players' union do not allow this level of incentives. But it seems to me that $1 million is enough if he cannot perform at a decent level for 100 innings. I would also like to see him get $10+ million if he comes back and leads us to a World Series. Is there some way to capture the essence of this under the MLB/union contract rules?
  9. I would focus the entire front office on studying the pitching prospects that other teams have in the minors, with a focus on teams that are likely to be contenders at the trade deadline. As for the MLB club, I would try to bring as many players up as possible to give them a chance to prove themselves, but try to keep players like Thomas and Dinkleman in Rochester so that the Red Wings don't come in last place again.
  10. Why not offer an incentive laden contract where he can make his fair value if he produces?
  11. And now we hit Peralta after Tigers steal second. Seems fair to me.
  12. That is excellent news. Let's hope that he has made a full recovery.
  13. Did Porcello deliberately hit Willingham?
  14. Nice AB by Mauer -- made Porcello throw a lot of pitches then gave him a nasty bruise.
  15. C'mon Justin -- we need a hit.
  16. Hey, that extra "hit" increased his trade value.
  17. Nice heads up play by Casilla tagging out a slumbering Cabrera. But we are already down 1-0.
  18. And we start by walking the first batter then giving a hit to the second batter and missing the cutoff man. Runners on second and third with no outs. Walters is having trouble throwing strikes.
  19. Yes, possibly to some Japanese team?
  20. Fire the hitting coach?
  21. If we can hire Superman, can we also get him to pitch?
  22. THIRTEEN Twins strikeouts. There should be a rule that after 15 strikeouts we can hit off a tee. And if there are more than 5 strikeouts using the tee, then they should call the game.
  23. I remember Slama performing poorly when they brought him up before. But Burnett has proven that he is not an answer, and at the very least Slama has proven that he deserves another chance. Is it really going to hurt anything to DL Burnett and give Slama a chance? Worst case scenario is that Slama loses a game or two and moves us closer to next year's #1 draft pick.
  24. I think that there are lots of contenders for worst part, including having no one better than Pavano to replace him, as well as poor offense, poor defense, and a weak farm system. It seems to me that the only salvation will be to trade everyone over age 30 who can be traded, in an effort to put together a run in 2015 or 2016. In the meantime, we are looking good for high draft picks for a while.
  25. At least Span shows that he can still hit a home run.
