  1. I was in the left field bleachers that day. It was completely exhilarating. Teflon, you are right: it was, rightfully, all about Carew that day. Adams was a footnote. That said, I vote for Kirby's game.
  2. I really appreciate these posts. Thanks much. I'm hoping to make a road trip to Beloit this summer. I hope I won't be too late to see Sano and Rosario. Actually, I hope I am. I would love to see them move rapidly to the big leagues.
  3. On pace for 43-119 or '62 Mets territory. They'll do better once they start playing central division foes. They'll need some starting pitching though.
  4. CDog - thanks for the heads up on ESPN play-by-play. Game two, the Twins had three hits. So the totals are 3 for 32, all singles (two were infield hits) with four walks. Not as bad as I was (mis)remembering. .094/.194/.094 triple split. Still pretty woeful. powrwrap - you make a good point. But wouldn't it be outstanding (outrageous) if it were the middle nine or last nine too? I was just thinking back to 2010 and remembered hearing Dick and Bert brag all year long that the Twins were leading the majors in first inning runs and tried to think back through the first four games to what had happened...
  5. It's early. I know. I do think the offense will start to normalize but... Last year, Ben Revere and Drew Butera had near-record poor offensive stats. Thinking along those lines... I think the most outstanding (outrageous) offensive statistic for the Twins this year is that, through the first four games, they have only one hit during the first trip through the batting order. That is 36 plate appearances. I might be wrong, I don't keep a scorecard. If anyone can verify or prove this wrong, I would like to know. I tried to find some way to look this up but I didn't find any. Is there any way to see this kind of split or look back to a specific game for this kind of data?
  6. When those above him are being held accountable and need a scapegoat. It is the way of the world.

  8. Great update. I think you missed Danny Rams at Ft. Myers. 0 for 4 against Twins according to this http://www.news-press.com/article/20120406/SPORTS/304060037/0/pbcs.dll/Fort-Myers-can-t-get-started?odyssey=nav|head

  11. My only argument would be that having media members in the clubhouse is hardly quintessential. I say that because I don't consume any of that media yet I am somehow able to follow the Twins.
  12. Was he driving a new SUV?
  13. from the article - "Outgoing New Britain Rock Cats owner Bill Dowling said he was surprised to hear news of the alleged extortion attempt. The Rock Cats are the Twins Class AA affiliate." Amid a pile of who-the-f***-cares... Why was this thrown in? Who the f*** cares what "Outgoing New Britain Rock Cats owner Bill Downing said"? Who would ask him for a quote? Why would he answer? Why would they print it?
  14. It would be one I never watched. After seeing commercials for it, I was too appalled to see The Babe with John Goodman as a buffoonish version of The Bambino. I would love to see a real movie about the real Babe.
  15. It used to be an adage (I know how much the SABR crowd reveres adages) that AAA was only for mediocre players. Any really good player made the jump to the majors from Class A. If memory serves, Hrbek and Wynegar made that jump. Gaetti came from AA. I think Puckett went from A to AAA but only played about one month there before being called up. I guess that is not The Twins Way anymore. Or maybe it just says something about the caliber of players they have.

Wait.. There are commercials? Can I start watching half-way through and zap the commercials like I do with my cable box? If not, it will be a deal killer. I can't stand the idea of watching the same commercials 3000 times.
  17. It should be WAY easier for Willingham to adjust to RF than it would be for Mauer to adjust to IB, 3B or OF, which I have seen a lot of people suggest. Though it was a small sample size, Joe looked good at first last year. Ergo, Willingham will adjust to RF nicely.
  18. I am afraid we will find out that Revere's defense is not as good as people seem to think. We could see, from last year, that he often got poor jumps on the ball. He dropped a few too. His arm is legendarily bad. He makes up for a lot with his speed and fearlessness though. Let's hope he improves his deficiencies faster than his speed deteriorates. On offense... I don't think there is any disagreement... he needs to fight off tough pitches, improve his eye and patience, bunt and run like hell. And fewer somersaults. And take the triple instead of the inside the park homer.

I guess they make more on broadcast revenue if they assure the broadcaster a blackout. Still, seems like a waste of an opportunity. Clearly there would be ways around it with proxies and vpns but I guess I'll stick with cable for now. Thanks for the replies.
  20. I would love to drop my cable but Twins broadcasts keep me tethered. I looked at mlb.tv and it looks like Twins games would be blacked out here in Minnesota. Can that be? Any locals using mlb.tv? It seems absurd to pay $125 per year if I won't get the Twins games.
