  1. No way Jose, us “anti vaxxers” aka “grandma killers” are to be seen and not heard
  2. Lol what is this trash? Different rules for different fools here at TD
  3. A team as limited in relievers simply can’t do the 3-6 (closer to 6) pitcher a game thing. Sure it will work sometime but there are just too many unreliable relievers to expect to hold a marginal lead, which we usually have because we can’t hit worth a hill of beans. I don’t understand refusing to adjust to what best suits the makeup of the team.
  4. Duran is suited for the role he’s in. Trying to make him a starter would be disastrous.
  5. Modern baseball sometimes tries to get too cute for its own good, to the point of annoyance. The “closers are overrated” trope appeared again today in defense of putting our best reliever into the game in the 6th inning. Duran should be the closer until proven otherwise. Not the 6th inning guy. Not the 7th inning guy. Maybe the 8th inning guy if you’re planning on making him go two innings. But he’s the closer. Stop relying on guys like pagan and duffey and Jax to pitch the 8th/9th. In fact, pagan should never appear past the 7th inning. How much more do fans need to see until they realize he is terrible at closing games? As I said in the GDT, if we’re forced to use unreliable relievers, I’d rather see them in the 6th or 7th. That way, we have more at bats to come back if they cough up the lead.
  6. No one said it was inconceivable, just dumb
  7. This is all that needs to be said right here
  8. Yes you did leave something out, context. Allowing runs in a blowout game is less meaningless than having three blown saves in the 8th inning alone as pagan does (plus a loss). Duran has one. now you’re trying to present stats to make an argument that contradicts your statement that Duran is better than pagan. Weird
  9. Yes we know, especially when you can pick ‘em to suit your narrative
  10. Because there’s a thing called playing the percentages which you apparently don’t believe in because “closets are overrated”.
  11. Did I say no one is capable of holding a lead? That’s an awfully big leap you’ve made. Pagan is CAPABLE of holding a lead, he’s just more likely to NOT hold one
  12. Exactly. The closer is “overrated” on teams that have plenty of reliable relievers. We don’t have that
  13. and by the way, Joe smith has had a good year but has been shaky lately
  14. dude I love Duran but no manager is going to ASSUME that there won’t be a base runner over two innings facing the “best Detroit hitters”. Even if he allowed one base runner an inning your whole plan is out of whack. Duran did it because he’s really good but any deviation from a perfect outing scenario destroys your plan and I’d bet most managers aren’t managing that way in the 6th inning
  15. But again, lesser relievers were going to have to face the top of the order eventually. You keep glossing over that fact. And if you’re going to assume the twins would score MORE runs to make that fact irrelevant, I’m not sure if you’ve been watching lately but….
  16. I don’t trust pagan to get anyone out. He’s not good, you even admitted so. And when I’m forced to put him in and he inevitably fails to hold the lead, I want my offense to have enough at bats to come back. your whole argument is use the worse relievers later in games. Bizarre but you’re determined to die on this hill so have at it
  17. I just don’t know how many more times pagan can fail or almost fail in the 8th:9th innings until I can stop arguing with people that he shouldn’t be used in that situation
  18. First off it’s not absurd, you’re assuming that tigers would have used the exact same pitchers for innings 7-9 had they taken the lead off of pagan in the 6th. And while arguably they could have used their better arms, who knows if the outcome would have been the same. Rocco doesn’t know the outcome of this going into the bottom of the sixth. It I’m the manager and I’m being forced to use a guy who I know isn’t great (because the only good reliever can’t pitch the final 4 innings), then I’d prefer to use him when I have more opportunities to bat in the (more likely) event that he coughs up the lead. im shocked this is so hard to understand
  19. You’re right, more chances to score when you’re behind is always worse. I concede to that inarguable point
  20. Lol the cherry picker again. Duran had one high leverage situation where he failed. Allowing 2 earned runs in the 8th inning against Baltimore. The other runs came in games with the twins comfortably ahead against Oakland and boston. Pagan has three blown saves in the 8th inning along and easily could have had 2 or 3 others. If you have watched the twins as much as you say, and you can honestly sit here and negatively compare Duran to pagan in the 8/9 innings, I really don’t know what to tell you. You’re trying hard to make a bad point, I’ll give you credit for that.
  21. The simple argument I’m making is that no one knew how the game was going to unfold going into the bottom of the sixth. You yourself admitted that pagan is no longer effective. Duran was not going to pitch the final 4 innings. If you use a less effective pitcher in the 6th inning and he coughs up the lead at least then you have 3 at bats to come back. Rocco decided to save the guy who’s proven to be unreliable in the 8th or 9th instead of the guy who’s been lights out in that situation. What the offense did or has been doing is irrelevant. It’s the manager’s job to put the best guys in the situations where they give the team the best chance to win. It’s not Rocco’s fault archer went 4 innings, it’s not his fault we have so few reliable arms. But it is his call who to use and when and pagan should not be used in the 8th or 9th. You’re arguing the opposite. Which is fine but you’re in the tiny minority
  22. Again I agree there aren’t great options. But If we’re going to fall behind I’d rather fall behind going into the 7th rather than the 9th. If the tigers tied or led off pagan in the 6th, do they bring in the same pitchers? Do the twins pinch hit differently?
  23. “The reason guys don't pitch in the 9th isn't because they have "poor control,”” it’s one of the reasons.
  24. Hey listen I’m with you on the offense but continuing to put a guy in a situation where he’s either failed or nearly failed is incompetent management.
