    Why was lopez extended so quickly? And what did rocco do to warrant his extension? Remember when dobnak was signed long term? Whatever happened to him? Can’t rag on the buxton extension too much. But why was correa signed long term to a team that should be rebuilding? Trading two prospects for a pitcher with injuries at the deadline last year….. The FO has made some absolutely wild decisions that haven’t worked out. Any number of those decisions should cost them their job..

    There are lots of franchises more poorly run. But they’re plenty that are run better. Not in favor of keeping this FO and on field management though. The product is not good.

    It’s never good when you walk the weak guy who pinch hit for the guy who was 3-3 with a couple doubles. Ahead of one of the Red Sox best hitters

    Division winners weren’t crowned in 1994. Also, that was a 4 team AL west division then. Any way you want to look at it, it’s not good.

    This same argument happened last year. The team was in first place in an awful division, but struggling to hold on. Playoffs were a possibility. The FO decided to be buyers and made several moves, hardly any of which have worked out. And the overpay for Mahle looks worse by the day. Gray is about the only guy who they could get a meaningful return for.

    We might be able to get a team to overpay on a starting pitcher before the deadline, like we did for Mahle. Gray’s presence here for the rest of the season won’t make a big difference for a team who’s absolute highest ceiling is another first round exit.

    Let’s get what we can for Gray before the deadline. Maybe someone would want Farmer or possibly Polanco. Not much else to offer.

    Last year’s trade deadline acquisitions have been a disaster by and large. Mahle - hurt, Michael Fulmer - era near 6 with the cubs, and Lopez looks cooked.

    96 wins?! Lol the twins would have to go 71-42 the rest of the way! They can’t win more than 2-3 games in a row! Good luck!

    Or even if they just drop off a bit. Fall closer to average. Ryan is exciting but he sort of tailed off last season. Ober, good recovery last night but 3 months from now?

    You make a good point, I just think you can’t hide the bad guys. They have to pitch eventually. Yes, it’s possible that duran does the job and we add on several runs and make it a non issue. But a 3 run lead in the 6th (yes with bases loaded) facing 6-7-8. That’s a tough call to bring in your stud

    To answer the headline question….it can get much worse. 4 months left of this. Things really didn’t fall apart until well into June/July last year.

    12 outs needed to be made. Say duran gets the 6th and maybe 7th. Lopez and (?) are going to have to get the last 6 outs. Lopez and jax have been bad for a month. Stewart has been good but playing high above his career average. Moran is hit/miss. The weaker guys (aka everyone except duran) are going to have to pitch. You don’t trust them in the 6/7 but you trust them in 8/9? Moran was brought in to face 6-7-8 batters. If they’re going to blow the lead, I’d heck of a lot rather blow it before the 8th inning. That way you could maybe run your strategy a bit differently than if you fall behind in the 9th. Plus, I believe it’s a mental letdown to blow a 9th inning lead. Rarely do I see the home team score in the bottom after blowing a 9th inning lead. Plus I like duran for a possible 10th inning with the manfred rule, being a high strikeout guy. We’re just arguing about chair placement on the titanic at the end of the day. You can’t have one trustworthy guy in the bullpen. It’s just never going to work. It looked good early on with thielbar and lopez, but it’s reverted to form. Can’t have a bullpen with one solid reliever.
