  1. The look on Bryant's face as he was making that throw...wow.
  2. Edwards was acquired as part of the trade that sent Matt Garza out of Chicago.
  3. Fitting that we get a political ad protending the end of the world during the Cubs clinching half-inning.
  4. The heavy rain is still 70 miles away. Now it looks like they'll restart the game? Incompetence.
  5. That heavy rain is still a half hour away, WTF?
  6. Oh Cripes...Tarp!
  7. Too bad Bud Selig isn't still around to declare the Series a tie and keep both streaks alive.
  8. Will this go down in Cubs infamy as the "Failed Squeeze Game"?
  9. Guessing is's an hour or more, then it could cause an hour delay if the game isn't over by then. (please somebody score)
  10. There are only 64(?) Power 5 teams, so a ranking in the low 30s would be about average. 54th means they're behind a number of Group of Five schools. Not good.
  11. That's why the "uncatchable ball" portion of the rule exists, to give the defense a break in the case of a bad throw. But that last pass was catchable if the DB doesn't run the receiver off of the ball. Smith even got a hand on it in spite of heavy contact that began a full five yards upfield. The receiver was making a play for the ball, the DB was not. The officials can't presume to know where the ball is supposed to be thrown.
  12. Any Democrats who remember Jon Grunseth should be worried about the next four weeks. I am.
  13. Leidner has been very good since the Purdue game last year. He's been very good at the end of close games throughout his career, today excluded obviously. Many Badger fans hated Stave. Iowa fans whine about Beathard, and before him Rudock and Vandenberg and Stanzi...all good QBs. Plenty of Gopher fans found fault with Weber, Gray, Sauter, Cockerham, Abdul-Khaliq and Cupito as seniors, and all of them were better than average. Good college QBs still make a lot of mistakes and have bad games. If you think he's not above average, your expectations are too high.
  14. Green is the one they're redshirting, which is smart. Croft has slipped down the depth chart under Rhoda presumably for football reasons. He's not going to save this season because he's simply not good enough to do it. Leidner is the best QB on the roster by a pretty comfortable margin. He's an above-average P5 conference QB, which means he'll still have some ugly games.
  15. How in the world is that not DPI?
  16. I loved the first season of Briadchurch. It was fantastic at stirring up a wide array of emotions. S2 immediately struck me as a trainwreck and we gave up after 3 episodes. Would you say that was too soon? Speaking of Brit TV, as far as I can tell nobody has mentioned Peaky Blinders at TD. Not truly great, but very good, really fun and a perfect fit for the TD demo. Tom Hardy has a recurring role and kills it. I randomly think about that show more than any other. (Netflix)
  17. I think the lack of outliers isn't so much evidence of any competitive balance mechanism at work as it is proof of the theory "the draft is a crapshoot". All teams miss sometimes, no matter how brilliant they are, while everybody finds their occasional Dozier. The upshot is that a pure reliance on amateur signings and development isn't a realistic path to a championship. the source data used by 538 is interesting to look at. When broken down into pitchers and position players, one outlier does emerge. The entire product of that team's amateur acquisitions on the pitching side is sub-replacement level this season. Yeah, it's the Twins.
  18. I think if you did this to any other candidate it would humanize them in the eyes of many people. That's a reaction that is remarkably absent with Trump.
  19. Brilliant.
  20. So...he's basically creating an older and much larger Insane Clown Posse.
  21. Triumph the Insult Comic Dog's Trump focus group: I looked it up, and Robert Smigel says these people are real.
  22. He clearly meant it as a joke about shooting Clinton. There's no doubt when looking at the faces behind him that many his crowd obviously got the joke. The best of the bunch is the guy with the white beard to the right who looks almost shocked, turns to his companion and says "whoa", then looks downright sheepish for several seconds. Somebody needs to gif-meme that guy.
  23. +1. I thoroughly enjoyed going out of my genre comfort zone. A tip for anybody who is going to re-watch the series: Halfway through, I started imagining all of Lucas' lines as read by a 12-year old Chris Rock. My wife asked me what the heck I was laughing about, so I told her...and it worked for her too.
  24. If that's the main source of your Trump anxiety, maybe this will help a little. If anything, Trump underperformed the polling when the primaries were still competitive. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/trump-supporters-probably-arent-lying-to-pollsters/&ved=0ahUKEwj5nbfcobLOAhUH_WMKHX1ZAK4QFggfMAE&usg=AFQjCNG98itnAWv1CA9M9fgoSjB2P6imfw
  25. I don't know what's more astonishing...the fact that the Twins managed to trade-string Drew Butera into a top 100 prospect, or the fact that Butera is still in the bigs and hitting .308 /.366 /.538. Antony nailed the twin pillars of trading: Trade from depth, and trade the sudden overachiever. Well done.
