  1. No, for two reasons. First, a nit-pick. Interference is when an offensive player impedes a fielder who is making a play on the ball, whereas obstruction is when a fielder impedes a baserunner. Second, the rules defer to the fielder in this case. If the fielder is making a play on the ball or has the ball he is entitled to hold his position. That's all Hrbek did.
  2. Agree. And that's how it should be. If the fielder has a tag on you and you are not on the base you are out.
  3. Disagree about Gant. Look at 0:44 to 0:45. Hrbek applies the tag and maintains contact. Hrbek is not lifting Gant when Gant loses his balance and loses contact with the base. After that happens Hrbek lifts Gant, but Gant was already out before that happened. And Hrbek never falls over.
  4. And this is exactly why Ron Gant would have been confirmed as being out if there had been replay in Game 2 of the 1991 WS.
  5. But I question whether the challenge should have been allowed to proceed.
  6. Correct call on the review, unfortunately. Coaches need to work with their players on pop-up slides.
  7. If you have access to a video of the play there's this: Determine the distance the ball traveled and divide it by the time it took for the ball to get from his hand to the first baseman's mitt. Each of those numbers would need to be accurate to three significant figures. The distance would probably pretty easy to estimate accurately but you'd need to determine the time to the nearest hundredth of a second and that would be much more difficult. The stopwatch app on my iPhone does go to hundredths of a second but you'd probably have to take numerous readings and average them. In theory there could be a way for someone to get the time electronically from the video but I don't know anything about that first hand.
  8. Batting orders and lineups have been posted: Twins: 1. Brian Dozier ® 2B 2. Joe Mauer (L) DH 3. Miguel Sano ® 3B 4. Kennys Vargas (S) 1B 5. Max Kepler (L) RF 6. Robbie Grossman (S) LF 7. Eddie Rosario (L) CF 8. Kurt Suzuki ® C 9. Eduardo Escobar (S) SS Texas: 1. Shin-Soo Choo (L) RF 2. Ian Desmond ® CF 3. Adrian Beltre ® DH 4. Ryan Rua ® LF 5. Prince Fielder (L) 1B 6. Jurickson Profar (S) 3B 7. Rougned Odor (L) 2B 8. Elvis Andrus ® SS 9. Bobby Wilson ® C Nunez gets a day off. Considering the Texas heat and the fact that he doesn't get the next four days off like everyone else, that makes sense. I'm hopeful we'll have a big enough lead in the late innings that he won't be called on to pinch hit or pinch run.
  9. Cmon, Ricky, make that misplay not matter.
  10. That was a top notch play. Hard to believe it was the same player who gave us that clunker last inning.
  11. That's not a plow. That's his backside.
  12. Don't let up, boys. Keep treating him like a minor league pitcher.
  13. From Phil Miller: UPDATE: The tarp is being pulled, though a light rain continues to fall. Assuming it gets no heavier, the Rangers say, first pitch will take place at 9:15 p.m.
  14. I'm a doctor, Jim, not a very good actor!
  15. Huh, interesting. Being in my 60s I always assumed everyone knew this.
  16. This is when night games almost always started back in the olden days, like before 1980. (Actually they started at 8:00.) Of course, that was back when games often finished in less than two hours, back before MLB mandated two or three minutes between innings for commercials, back before batters found out how advantageous it was to work the count, back before multiple pitching changes, etc, etc, etc. But my assumption in this case was that they are trying to allow for another hour of evening cooling. Edited to add: there are no 8:05 starts in Texas on Saturdays for the rest of the season.
  17. Lineups and batting orders for both teams: Twins: 1. Eduardo Nunez ® SS 2. Joe Mauer (L) 1B 3. Miguel Sano ® 3B 4. Brian Dozier ® 2B 5. Max Kepler (L) RF 6. Kennys Vargas (S) DH 7. Eddie Rosario (L) LF 8. Juan Centeno (L) C 9. Danny Santana (S) CF Rangers: 1. Shin-Soo Choo (L) RF 2. Ian Desmond ® CF 3. Rougned Odor (L) 2B 4. Adrian Beltre ® 3B 5. Prince Fielder (L) DH 6.
