  1. The LATEST switches to catcher I remember were ex-infielders Buster Posey and Jorge Posada. But those conversions were made BEFORE they reached the Big Leagues. An MLB player who became an MLB catcher would be in "Ripley's Believe it or NNNNN..ever mind!"
  2. For many pitchers, 100% of maximum velocity produces a loss of movement(stuff) One step on the pitchers learning curve is to determine at what velocity each of his pitches have their best movement, and then learn how to repeat that pitch / velocity.
  3. Looks like Pablo Sandoval had the worst season for a MLB 3B.

  8. No, I am implying that Trevor Plouffe terminated that horrible list, and should be awarded "honorary "somethin'-somethin'" . Maybe first-baseman or DH. It could take another twelve disasters to replace Plouffe in the batting order. Unless Matt Moses is still available.
  9. Why so much love for Plouffe? Here are twelve reasons that I would feel queasy about trading him. These are the Twins third basemen between Cory Koskie and Trevor Plouffe. Most have already been nominated to the Twins Hall of Blame. Tony Batista 3B 2006 Jeff Cirillo 3B 2006-2007 Howie Clark 3B 2007-2008 Joe Crede* 3B 2009 Brendan Harris* 3B 2007-2010 Mike Lamb* 3B 2007-2008 Matt Macri 3B 2007-2010 Nick Punto* 3B 2004-2010 Luis Antonio Rodriguez* 3B 2005-2007 Terry Tiffee 3B 2004-2006 Danny Valencia* 3B 2008-2012 Glenn Williams 3B 2005-2007
  10. Kershaw, Arrieta, DeGrom, Cole, Bumgarner, Harvey, Melancon, Rosenthal, Chapman?
  11. Padres 3B, Yangervis Solarte (.270BA/.320SLG/.748OPS/ 28 yrs-old compared to Trevor Plouffe (.244BA/.435SLG/.742OPS/ 29 yrs-old Why do they want Plouffe, again?
  12. If you stop eating spicy food after 6 PM, these wild dreams will go away.
  13. If you stop eating spicy food after 6 PM, these wild dreams will go away.
  14. If Sano, Kepler, Rosario, Hicks, Buxton, and either Plouffe or Vargas all hit better than Mauer, then Mauer should sit. Neither Mauer (nor any of the above) can replace a middle infielder or catcher, but OF and corner IF can potentially be upgraded by benching Mauer.
  15. Unless Mauer spends more time on a "chair".
  16. It may NOT be that "Their #5 hitter can't hit fastballs", so much as he is "sitting on" off-speed, because he is seeing it so often. I am guessing that when he starts to see more fastballs, he will begin sitting on the fastball and improve hitting fastballs and degrade his ability to hit off-speed pitches.
  17. "To me, the most annoying thing about the "Mauer problem" is where he hits in the lineup" To me the problem is how often he IS in the lineup, taking PA's away from the kids who will be re-energizing the franchise and need the experience to dvelop.
  18. How does that translate to replacing Plouffe? who also plays at least adequate defense. Playing Mauer seldom, Kepler at 1B, Sano at 3B, and Plouffe at 1B, 3B, DH makes sense to me, until someone else (Vargas, Walker, Arcia) shows that they can replace Plouffe offensively. AT THAT time, maybe Plouffe becomes replaceable.
  19. If so, why not replace a lesser player with Davis/Kepler, instead of (Plouffe) one of the few proven hitters on the team?
  20. He may indeed be a "league average player", but he is a close to a "Twins best player". So replacing him with worse players is an improvement? That logic is very difficult to follow.
  21. Here is the "original" part. He becomes a utility player that SELDOM plays, The whole point is that he NOT block Sano, Plouffe, Vargas, Kepler or any of the YOUNG, DEVELOPING players. Play him once a week, wherever he does the least defensive damage, until he asks to be traded. (or given away)
  22. The FA's that need to be signed early are those that THEY DON'T WANT TO RISK LOSING. IMO, that is nobody this year, but if they really want Hunter, they would at least have to verbally commit early to signing him later.
  23. I am sure that Molson is in financial difficulties, as Canadians just don't drink much beer.
  24. No single player is "likely" to be selected. There are only 14 total selected last year. You just hope it isn't someone valuable that is lost. (Gilmartin)
