  1. I had to look up "colitas." I did not know that.
  2. Glad to see that Santana is getting a rest.
  3. It seems I'm late to this conversation, but I have a theory that Gardy wants to replicate the way he came in. That is, TK left after 2002 with the team up to win, and Gardy took the reins and voila he went on a run. Perhaps he would like to leave the team in that condition for the next manager.
  4. Kenny Rogers. He's that guy that played a hippie in 1968, I think.
  5. Firing a manager is like cutting a player. It's painful for the one fired, but to the one hired it's a joy. A door closes and a door opens. Somebody had to go (retirement, albeit) for Gardy to come through the door. Perhaps Gardy will find the door of his own accord. Or perhaps he'll walk around in the dark room of 2015 looking, still looking for the door. But the door is there, and it shall open.
  6. Do you wear a straw hat or sunglasses while you walk on the sunny side of the street? Tee hee.
  7. I literally laughed out loud. I wonder if they have an emoticon for that yet? By the way, your Jack McKeon joke went right over my head.
  8. Drum roll. The answer is Joe Girardi.
  9. Which major league manager has made the fewest replay requests this year? Hint: It's not a likely candidate.
  10. Would you trade Gardy even up for Kurt Gibson?
  11. He didn't say this about May, but he said it when Schaffer was making that nifty catch in center field: "I've got it." I always liked baseballs country roots: I got it! I got it! Yo la tengo.
  12. I learned yesterday that "Hootenanny" was a word for gadget, or a whatchamacallit, until the 1940s when the folk people like Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie used the word to describe a musical get-to-gather. Huh. I just made up a word: get-to-gather. !
  13. Last night Terry Francona set the record for the number of pitching changes in a season, and tonight he's going to try to break his own record for the number of pieces of bubble gum chewed in one game (which now stands at 412).
  14. How many hours ago? I've shaved twice since this game started.
  15. Right down to Little League!
  16. But watch you will. I take that back. You will watch a comeback.
  17. I think I hate Francona for over-managing (he just set the record for using relief pitchers in a season; YAWN).
  18. If you're worried about that, I'm worried about you.
  19. You've just stepped behind the pale.
  20. Picking up on what others have said about "the integrity of the game" and not playing prospects when playing September games against teams in contention ... I saw last night that the Angels put out this lineup against Seattle, which couldn't have made Oakland, Kansas City, or Detroit very happy. (Seattle won, by the way.) Campana, CF Beckham, G, SS Boesch, RF Cron, DH Navarro, E, 1B Green, G, 2B Conger, C Jimenez, L, 3B O'Malley, LF
  21. Fascinating facts from the Chattanooga team website: "From 1932 to 1959 the Lookouts were affiliated with the Washington Senators who went on to become the Minnesota Twins in 1961. Chattanooga won three league titles as a Senators affiliate including one under manager Cal Ermer ... Hall of Famer, and former Minnesota Twins' great, Harmon Killebrew also has roots with the Lookouts. The 13-time All-Star spent two seasons with Chattanooga and hit a combined 46 home runs with the team."
  22. Wow, it's nothing like that. This montage is like a film angels shoot in heaven to make people wanna come!
  23. You don't like Tennessee?
