  1. Can someone explain why the sale price is so much higher/different than the appraisal (Forbes value)? Seller's market? What am I missing?
  2. I guess I interpreted it as a defense that the Pirates have been rebuilding for the last 20 years. They never built or rebuilt anything in that time. Now you've got it
  3. October 2013. I cried a little bit. Touching, your optimism.
  4. You don't really understand why the Pirates were awful for so long. They had one of the lowest MLB payrolls and they were also really cheap in the draft bypassing the BPA for signability several times. Combine that with making awful decisions at the MLB level and you are left with an org that eventually has to trade the few good players that they produced. They were simply a complete failure as an organization that never had a rebuilding plan until recently when they started spending megabucks in the draft. Did you even read my post? Very low payroll (yep, also can't sign top guys), selling every good player (even when you get tops guys), 15-20 years (without top guys) = bad team for 20 years until now (now they have top guys and have paid to keep a couple). There, I've condensed it.
  5. As long as it takes. Don't know that it matters at all at this point and he's getting paid no matter. Maybe the shame will force him into retirement, saving us the money next year. I was hoping this was the Nishioka strategy as well.
  6. I'm really surprised he's as close to .300 as he is with the way he swings.
  7. Well, actually, Prior provided most of the power on both those jacks, but it sure was nice to see that elevated swing from Joe. I accept that.
  8. Going back to Florimonsy's awesome grab, I'll say that having him at short, with his range, really helps with having Hammer in LF with his range.
  9. Plouffesy gets hit first hit back from the DL, hooray!
  10. Fine Coomer, the guy is just unlucky then. Permanently unlucky.
  11. Well at least our replacement players can hit.
  12. I don't know.... have you seen Doumit run? Between Thome and him I don't know who wins a 50 meter dash. Really.
  13. Revere yes, Mauer no. Mauer still has that sold warning track power to LF, regularly.
  14. I know it's a Friday, but where are you Glunn, it's a west coast game man?
  15. It doesn't sink if you throw 90+ Yep, apparently this is common knowledge
  16. Haven't we been told by experts that throwing a sinker above 91 MPH just won't sink?
  17. I think we've both commented how Mauer just won't pull the ball, not can't, just won't. Ok, it's very rare.
  18. Let's get Blackburn predictions in: I think 6.2 IP 5 ER I think both Carson and Floriman reach with a hit. Morneau gets a 2-run dinger. Twins win 6-5.
  19. Twins: Mastroianni CF Mauer C Willingham LF Morneau 1B Doumit DH Plouffe 3B Carson RF Carroll 2B Florimon SS -- Mauer batting in the 2-hole ** Blackburn pitching Mariners: Dustin Ackley 2B Michael Saunders CF Kyle Seager 3B John Jaso DH Justin Smoak 1B Miguel Olivo C Trayvon Robinson LF Eric Thames RF Brendan Ryan SS Hisashi Iwakuma RHP
  20. I'd like to see Parmelee get 300 MLB ABs before deciding whether he's ready. Sure, it looks like he's ready in AAA, but so does Hendricks. Once I see continued success in the MLB it will be easier to ship our former MVP away.
  21. Here's Nick's post and our comments, yes, seriously concerned with the starting rotation and pitching in general. http://www.twinsdaily.com/content.php?371-Position-Analysis-Starting-Pitcher
  22. Kab, the pirates were a farm team for the past 10-15 years. Every good and decent player was traded for prospects whom were traded if they too became good/decent and in the final years of arbitration. Just to name a few. Freddy Garcia, Niger Morgan, Jason Bay, Aramis Ramirez, Brian Giles, Jason Kendell (in his prime) and many more. The reason is because the GM in those years -- and still now -- was told to dramatically lower payroll. Low payroll makes it hard to keep good players and so goes the tale of a crappy baseball team for the past 20 years. GO BUCS!
  23. Yep, thanks! Help me make sense of this though. We had Marquis for the year at 3M. You show we paid him 2.66M of that, yet wasn't he picked up for more time, prorated, than just .34M for the new team to pay? How does that work?
