  1. Maybe TR is gonna trade Doumit and Willingham for prospects. Then it's taken care of.
  2. I don't have anything against the Twins signing Arroyo. He would be our top starter today. That said, it seems that if you want to find success sometime in the future, it would be more wise to take a shot at an arm that may be dominant. If they are willing to spend over $10 million (12 or more even) over the next three years on Arroyo, I wish they would pump the brakes a little and consider using that money for Garza or Tanaka (disclaimer: I know nothing of Tanaka). No pitcher is a guarantee, but a ceiling above "back of the rotation starter" would be welcomed.
  3. No to both. As for the comments on Fielder: keep in mind this is a guy who has minimal role on D, plays for strikeout/flyball pitchers, and was I a line-up that was pretty solid. Mauer is: better defensively, plays (recently) for a horrible pitching staff, and was the best hitter on his team by miles. Add in the fact that Joe is a homegrown talent and it's just a huge no. Plus, I live in Detroit right now and everyone is really down on Fielder, and that is without them being on his case about conditioning. My favorite part of this discussion, though, is seeing all the support for Mauer. It is easy to get mad about his production sometimes, but when it comes down to it, we all love him.
  4. I had this great dream that the Twins posted $70 mil and got Tanaka. TR came out in the press conference and explained how much he appreciated all of us fans for dealing with the disgusting slop of players the last few years, and that the ownership felt it was important to spend the money they had been saving.... Wouldn't that be something??? :-)
  5. At this point, I have no idea what to think about the player picked at #4. If Moran really goes #1, though, that makes things a little more fun.
  6. What is really sad is that when I saw this post, I thought: "Saunders might be a Twin??? That's great!" And 2 months ago, the thought of Saunders being a Twin would have made me sick.... At least the FO is good at lowering our expectations.
  7. What kills me is that this $5 million will hamper free agency again next year. I don't care what the payroll number is to an extent, but you gotta be smarter with your contracts than this! I was just thinking about how the Twins will drop Blackburn's wasted contract next offseason and now they add another! i guess I was hoping that even if the Twins didn't sign a big name like Marcum (was never hoping for a Greinke/Haren type) they would at least avoid crap signings like this and grab some upside with a Jurrjens/Gorelanny/Karstens or just roll with any number of replacement types they already have (Deduno, Devries, etc). You can't convince me that some pitchers wouldn't jump at the chance to play in Minnesota because they would know they have a big pitcher-friendly ballpark and no other pitchers to take their rotation spot....
  8. Doesn't this deal make trading Span or Willingham a more worthwhile thought? If teams are throwing around $13 mil for Torii, I imagine Bourne and Upton are going to get PAID. Span and Willingham with their respective contracts are going to look VERY appealing soon.
  9. I really like the idea of bringing in Ryan Roberts and Stephen Drew. Neither are huge moves, but could really bolster the IF situation. I'm holding out hope that Terry Ryan finds somebody of value for some of our outfield talent, but I am realistic, too, and realize that Scott Baker will probably be the best SP we get this offseason.
  10. Honestly, I don't care about the prospects. I'm just absolutely furious he went to the White Sox....
  11. When I said that I'm sick of "people" suggesting a trade of 70 cents on the dollar, I should have been more specific. I was referring to some reporters (like Bowden) who are suggesting the Twins give away their players for anything less than great offers.
  12. Exactly! I'm sick of people thinking the Twins should just blow up the team for a future that may never come! I am all for trading Willingham, but he has been killing it with little help behind him in the line-up. To get that production, a team needs to pony up. Why should the Twins feel the need to let him go for any less than a superb package?
  13. I'm thinking most people would, but we need pitching so I don't understand why Belt is a good get with Parmalee as a "low cost 1B option" too. I hope that nothing like this actually happens.
  14. I just saw this also. I don't know enough about these prospects, but Burton and Willingham have to have a lot of value, and isn't Belt somewhat redundant with Parmalee in AAA? (I realize that Belt is probably a better player)
  15. Danny Santana I think this is a great idea. I'm always looking for a new way to check on Twins info and avoid work!
  16. Maybe this is Gardy's way of trying to force TR to get Parmalee back down to AAA for more experience? Not that Parmalee looks bad, but he definitely could benefit from some time in AAA.
  17. I'm going with Mauer, but Santana will be great. My gut is telling me that Mauer is going to have a monster year. I also fee like Avila might slow down a bit. Mauer, Santana, Avila, AJ, Perez.
  18. How many of those weren't ever drafted? My guess is the Yankees pitchers are more international, right? I am guessing similar for the Rangers as well.
  19. Couple things: comparing Delmon's switch from RF to LF and Willingham's switch from LF to RF is not at all the same thing. LF requires more range, which Delmon did not possess, resulting in terrible defense. However, switching from LF to RF requires less range, and even though perhaps more technically difficult (with the overhang), should be an easier role. Also, with all of the Revere discussion, it will be a moot point if Plouffe hits like he is capable of hitting.
  20. I'm an optimist by nature, but honestly, things really can't go much worse than last year, so by that thought alone, this season will be much better. Some new faces are always exciting, even if it is an aging SS and an end of the rotation starter (and remember the last such starter the Twins picked up turned into a beloved member of the organization--Pavano). It's easy to say that a staring outfield with Revere is hard to get excited about, but I was at Comerica when he almost hit an in-the-parker, and I'm excited to see that energy. Bottom line is it's new and exciting, and Detroit could lose one, or two, or three stars and be finished. It happens.... Like with the Twinks last year.
