  1. I agree that Boshers and Kinley are the first two, but would have to put Kinley as my first choice to make room for Reed. If the Twins are actually going for it, there is just no room for a project arm in the bullpen. If the team is that high on Kinley, go back and work out a trade after the season starts.
  2. It's been widely reported that Darvish was tipping his pitches. I'm confident he'll do just fine if the Twins make it to the series.
  3. It's a slow off season, but if you look at that tweet again, there's been a steady decline in early signings. Teams and/or players seem to be holding out longer and longer in the hope of getting a better deal.
  4. With the team pursuing Napoli and now this Korean 1st baseman, I'm beginning to think Mauer isn't planning on coming back after 2018.
  5. Front Office: sign at least one pitcher that slots in front of Santana.
  6. That is my feeling exactly. The problem is we only hear about the bad stuff. And when there isn't any bad stuff, any stupid little thing gets reported and blown out of proportion.
  7. I don't recall any news claiming that Dozier refused accept extra years, much less so he could get a big payday that much sooner. I do remember a lot of discussion as to why the front office didn't get at least one option year - just in case he turned out to be the real deal. The dollars were about what he would have gotten in arbitration, so he should have been willing accept at least one option year. I do agree with that thinking, I just don't remember if it was Dozier refusing or the team just not demanding it.
  8. That was a lot of fun to read and watch. I was surprised at how many of them I actually watched as they were happening. Thanks for putting it up!
  9. Not too high on Odorizzi and Archer will cost way too much. Unless there's a team out there somewhere looking to dump some salary, I think the best options are still in free agency. Lots of big names still available.
  10. I'm kind of getting that trade gut feeling as well, but I also believe that nothing is locked in stone with the team's 40 man. The team is still free to add two or three free agents with minimal impact.
  11. Let's not forget Pineda will be going on the 60 day DL the second the season starts. The team could sign a player to a minor league contract with the stipulation that the player will get moved to the 25 man once the season starts.
  12. Well, yeah, technically I guess. It's not anything they're locked into though, so I don't even keep track. I'm sure the team will have zero problems clearing a spot if they need to.
  13. Agree on Napoli. Disagree on Vargas. I'd really like to see Vargas get 500 bats or so just to see what kind of numbers he could put up.
  14. Napoli? I'm sorry, but I just don't get the attraction. I'd rather stick with Vargas - he's a switch hitter and has better numbers than Napoli. He has also earned the shot. Give the guy a full time spot in the line up as a DH and 1st baseman. Lets see what the guy can do when he isn't flying back and forth between Rochester every other week.
  15. That's not the point. The point is there is still plenty of flexibility left. The team isn't locked into anything with the pick. It doesn't matter how stupid or pointless it is or if it's never been done, sending him back without even a look before spring training even starts is still an option. And then there is the possibility of trades opening up a spot or two. Personally, the more I think about recent developments, the more I think the team is seriously pursuing trades.
  16. Kinley isn't locked into anything. The team can send him back anytime they want. If they need his spot, he's gone.
  17. This just might be the single most intelligent post on this thread.
  18. It would be one thing if the Angels were rebuilding, but Bard has to stick for a whole season with a team that fully expects to be in the hunt for a play off spot. He will probably be back.
  19. How has two spots been wasted? Pineda goes on the 40 man the second the season starts and the spot opens up. The team can still sign a player to a minor league deal with the stipulation that they get added to the major league roster opening day. The team is also under no obligation to Kinley what so ever. If they need his spot, he's gone. Lastly, there is still the possibility of a trade (or trades) that may be looming. If that happens another spot or two is bound to open up. There is still a lot flexibility left and plenty of time to pull something off.
  20. The team has plenty of money with even more coming off the books next year. Any trade with Tampa will clean out the farm. The team should hang onto their prospects (they'll be needed for depth) and buy whatever they need in free agency.
  21. The writer seems to think Mauer's career will be over after next year. I think the team will keep value his defense and leadership and resign or extend him. He should be able to pad out his numbers a little bit more. It ain't over 'til it's over. I wasn't surprised he got snubbed for a gold glove. It usually takes multiple years of great defense.to bag the trophy. If he has another year like 2017, he should get it.
  22. It's like playing the lottery ... you can't win if you don't enter.
  23. I'm not that particular about the pitcher they pick up. I just want somebody that slots in front of Santana.
  24. This isn't a them for him type deal and shouldn't be looked at as one. It's two separate things. The priority is still adding solid arms to the roster. To keep Burdi and Bard, they would have had to put them on the 40 man. That's two spots the team can't fill with free agents or trades without risking losing them forever. Right now, there is still a good chance that both of these guys will be sent back at some point. That's a much better scenario than gone forever if they need to fill those spots with a free agent or trade. With Kinley, it's more of a draft somebody (anybody) and take a look. They probably would have done that whether they put Burdi and Bard on the 40 man or not. There is zero chance of this guy ever blocking a trade or free agent pick up. If they need the spot, Kinley is gone. He will probably get sent back anyway.
  25. This may turn out to be nothing, but according to MLB Trade Rumors, Darvish has been in contact with Gimenez about what it's like to play in Minnesota. Like I said, it could very well be nothing, but if it isn't .... ?! A possible deal could be farther along than people realize.
