  1. Nice start to the season, Pelf! 2Ks!
  2. C'mon, Pelf. Let's make this one nice and boring.
  3. 1) Yes, there has been plenty of talk about that on this board. No real mention of the possibility by anybody who can make those decisions. 2) It was assumed because of the contracts, and because Deduno has a hard time keeping his pitch count low enough to make it through 6 or 7 innings. It's a pretty weak excuse in my book, but our pen does tend to get overworked.
  4. I played summer ball in a community league for about a decade until my junior year of high school. That last year, I was the best starting pitcher on the team and batted .667 with a significantly higher OBP, but I got no respect from the team or coach, who consistently batted me last. That soured me from pursuing the game personally, along with the fact that my studies were always a bigger priority for me. That being said, I enjoy the nuances of the game. I enjoy knowing the intricacies, and there's always a deeper level to explore. That's part of the reason I love lurking on this site. There are so many folks here who are so much more learned in the game than I am. I can't say why I'm still following the Twins, other than the fact that baseball has always been my #1 sport, and the Twins were my childhood team. I defected to being a Colts fan when I was living in Indiana and the Vikings were having boat orgies, but I have never considered being anything but a Twins fan. Maybe I should see a doctor about that.
  5. Just because they didn't sign any real offensive threats doesn't mean they weren't trying. In fact, Antony said recently that they were just turned down by a lot of folks. Sure, they could way overpay for some guys and get them, but I'm willing to bet others wouldn't play here for any amount of money. When the details of the Twins offer to Ervin Santana came out, the reaction on the boards here was that it was a fair offer, and it wouldn't have made a lot of sense to offer more. To say that the Twins didn't sign people implies they weren't really trying is a big assumption based on a lot of missing facts.

  7. I'm a chronic lurker here, but I had to log in and say that this was exceptional. It's easy to see baseball players as stat-producing machines. The recent "Get to Know" articles give us a little insight into some prospects history and a bit of their personality, but this is an insight into your humanity. On top of that, this was also just very well written prose. Thank you for stepping out of the usual mold of the baseball article and opening up to us.
  8. I was at the Dome for the Kubel cycle. The hilarious part of that grand slam was the fact that with first base open, the Angels intentionally walked Morneau to load the bases for Kubel. I was sitting in the stands in shock. Was Scioscia watching the same game I was? As soon as that ball left Kubel's bat, you knew it was gone. I've never screamed so hard in my life at a baseball game than when Kubel hit that homer.
  9. What's everybody's problem with Jeff Gray? Are we looking at the same stats, or do people want to see him gone before he regresses to his career norms? His current BABIP is unsustainable at .185, but we have a bullpen full of replacement-level pitchers. What makes Gray so much worse than the others?
  10. Mauer posts a .900 OPSLiriano has a career ending arm injuryValencia is batting cleanup by the end of the yearThe bullpen puts up a combined 2.50 ERAMarquis wins 12 gamesI'll get around to putting up an avatar by the All Star break
  11. You put your weak arm in left field. The issue is the throws to third and home, and the distance to those bases is the least from left field. That's the reason Revere is slated for left. There were plenty of times that opponents went first to third on Revere last year because they knew he couldn't make the throw from deep center.
  12. He seems to be doing well with this rehab.
  13. Were disasters? They haven't played a single game that counts on these contracts. I think you need to work on your verb tense.
  14. I agree that Casilla is a defensive liability at SS. This time a year ago there was much discussion about the Twins handing him the starting SS job when he had done little to deserve it based on the performance from previous years. Through the beginning of the 2011 season, he did little to prove those concerns wrong. I'd love to see Dozier make it and put Carroll or Casilla on the bench.
  15. As young as Revere is, he shouldn't be buried on the bench. If he's not going to start in the majors, start him in Rochester. Just suck it up and run out Span, Willingham, Plouffe, and Doumit. Or! Put Span in right-center and Revere in left-center and run five infielders! Brilliant!
  16. I've gotta go with the Tigers, largely because they won it last year and nobody in the division made enough moves to challenge them.
