2. Paragon Sports Marketing Agency tweeted today that the Minnesota Twins are promoting Matt Carson from AAA-Rochester to complete the roster moves they started after yesterday’s afternoon game. Carson, who has primarily played right field in Rochester, was likely added to provide outfield depth due to the day-to-day status of outfielders Denard Span and Ben Revere. Span hurt his shoulder in a game on Sunday and had not played since. Revere hurt his ankle in yesterday’s game. This is not Carson’s first time in the majors. The 31-year-old had exactly 100 at-bats with the A’s in 2009 and 2010, hitting .200. This year with Rochester, he was hitting .277 with a 785 OPS, including 14 HR, 102 strikeouts and 33 walks. In his career in AAA, he has hit .280 with a .500 slugging percentage. According to Seth Stohs, he is often lauded by for his attitude, work effort and class, as well as his play on the field. The Twins chose to promote Carson over first base/right field prospect Chris Parmelee, who is tearing up AAA with a .348 batting average and 15 home runs in just 181 at-bats. This likely indicates the Twins feel that Span and Revere are healthy enough to be playing regularly soon. It is likely better for Parmelee, who is just 24 ear old, to develop by playing every day in AAA than only occasionally with the Twins. However, Parmelee could still be an option soon. The Twins have been slow to place their players on the Disabled List this season and it’s certainly possible they could do so with Span retroactively. Also, after September 1st, rosters can expand to up to 40 players. It is likely Parmelee would be promoted at that time. Yesterday, the Twins demoted pitchers Luis Perdomo and Jeff Manship to Rochester and reactivated pitcher Anthony Swarzak from the disabled list. An additional move was anticipated to fill out the 25-man roster. The delay was likely to give the Twins an extra day to evaluate the status of Revere and Span and their ability to play regularly. Also, the Twins will need to make a subsequent 40 man roster move as Pedro Florimon grabbed the final spot when he was called up on Wednesday. Matt Capps could go to the 60 Day DL, or someone will need to be DFAd.
3. Doh! You're right. My bad. Fixed.

5. Terry Ryan says the Twins aren’t going to be able to buy themselves out of this funk they’re in. He’s absolutely right, especially when it comes to second base, where the Twins OPS ranks 29th in the majors. Because there is almost nothing to buy. The free agent market for middle infielders is often limited, but this year’s market for second basemen is especially sparse. I count one starter – Toronto’s Kelly Johnson. Johnson is 31 years old, has a 692 OPS and is slightly below average fielding (according to UZR). And he’s the class of this group. There are several who have found their way into a bench job, including Jeff Baker (DET), Adam Kennedy (LAD), Jeff Keppinger (TB), Maicer Izturis (LAA) and Ryan Theriot (SFG). I find Keppinger the most interesting, slightly above Izturis. With the Rays, the 33-year-old Keppinger has hit awfully well but has been slightly below average defensively. And for his career (over 2300 AB) he has a .336 OBP. Everyone else has either been designated for assignment or hurt or both or retiring. It’s thin gruel. With those options, ones thoughts can’t help but turn to Jamey Carroll, who only has a 626 OPS but at least is getting on base at a .334 clip. The bigger concern might be that if he reaches 401 at-bats next year, then 2014 becomes a player option, albeit one that only pays him $2M. Frankly, that looks like a bargain and Carroll looks like a better option than anything Ryan is likely to find on the shelves this winter.

7. I hope you don't mind, but I deleted the "Title" font you had because of it's affect on the front page blog area. Great story.
8. From the announcement this morning, Dave St. Peter said that KSTP will still be caring ancillary Twins programming, like the Ron Gardenhire Show and Inside Twins. So it sounds like KTWN is sticking with the rock format and KSTP is sticking with sports for now. It's kinds of double hit for Hubbard. Not only do they lose the Twins for their sports station, but they gain a much more serious competitor for KS95.
9. I bet they just want Dozier to work w Bruno for a couple of weeks. It's clear he trusts him. Maybe he'll quit messing around w his stance. I really hope they don't move him to 2B.
10. Congrats Brock. Marriage is fun. Enjoy.
11. I know that watching baseball in 105F heat in Vegas would be on my to-do list. I've been to a game there. I'll admit - its hot. But it's not a bad way to kill a weeknight in Vegas (or a weekend afternoon) without losing your shirt at a table. I'm a big fan of not being broke before 10:30 or so, so I like activities like that.
12. I'd like to see Parmelee play some more in right field than we've seen so far this September. A guy can move positions for any number or reasons. It isn't jus because he's bad. The Twins have been pretty flush with outfielders the last few years and pretty scarce at first base with prospects. He might be there just becuase that's where they felt there was need.
13. On a related note, does anyone know the logic that makes these naming rights so damn valuable? There has to be an advertising study or tennant that shows that repeating it over and over has some positive effect, but I've never been able to figure out why it's worth so many millions of dollars.
14. Which interview? Was that the one with Doogie?
15. I'm interested in how KSTP adapts, but I'm really interested to see what KTWN does. I don't know how a rock station and a baseball station will mesh. It sure doesn't seem to have a lot of synergy. And after firing TFly, I wonder if they're looking to go in a different direction. They could be a radio version of TwinsDaily if they wanted. Anapologetic sports talk with a focus on baseball even during the offseaon. How about broadcasting some AFL games in the fall? Lots of spring training coverage? Winter meetings talk?
16. Hey, there are always people who can point to criticism during the offserason of not having enough of this or that. All I'm saying is that I don't remember eAaron, who is hardly hesitant to be candid, nor I focused on the rotation. I don't remmber a lot of chatter about it. The Twins had bigger fish to fry. The bullpen was a mess last year. The lineup lost a ton of talent and had a ton of question marks. I'm trying to remember how many of the GM Handbook plans I saw that had overhauling the pitching staff as a priority. Not many, I don't think.
17. http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/cutfour/index.jsp?c_id=min#contentId=36623336 Hardly revalatory, but kind of interesting. I find it interesting they want to keep him anonymous. And I'll admit, I have never thought about how he does his job....
18. Wow. Thanks for the heads up.

20. I'll say this: I did a weekly podcast where we reviewed every move the Twins made. At no time do I remember us blasting the Twins for going into this season with the rotation they had. The biggest concerns were the bullpen and lineup. I'm as surprised by this year's meltdown as anyone.
21. I suppose the good news for ESPN 1500 is now they have a million dollars to spend on...I'm not sure exactly what they would spend it on. I'm very interested in that announcement tomorrow.
22. This brings up one thing I don't think is talked enough about multi-year deals like Nishioka's. Teams feel the need to justify them and continue to sink good at-bats/innings after bad money. If Nishi would have had a one-year deal, how long would he have lasted last year? Not very, right? I think we see the same thing with Blackburn and Marquis. Marquis they can cut loose, but Blackburn the feel the need to rehabilitate.
23. Here was the original one from 10 years ago today. I change the ending for each one. http://d.dominohosting.biz/members/gameday/bonnes.nsf/FB259C607E71364F88256C6C00178770/85DE0DA4DCCD961588256C14004D1587?OpenDocument
24. How ironic would it be if the Twins, who value control over seemingly everything else, end up benefiting from Deduno someone becoming an effective starter.
