Article: Draft Update
Jeremy Nygaard replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Seniors typically don't get much. In fact, the seniors the Twins sign typically get only $1,000. The Twins certainly had a pre-draft agreement with Lopez that he'd agree to sign for $30K. Some borderline draftable players will agree to be taken in the Top 10 rounds knowing they will get $5k or so. Little leverage = little bonus. High school guys say have a lot more leverage.- 41 replies

Even without a consistent home defensively, Eduardo Nunez has put up some very impressive numbers over the first two and half months of the season. Settling into the leadoff spot, Nunez has hit a career-high nine home runs and is fifth in the majors with 17 stolen bases. Being paid only $1.475 million this year, Nunez also one more year of team control before entering free agency. With the Twins continuing to spin their tires - and sporting the worst record in all of baseball - it’s probably time for the club to start gauging trade interest in a player like Eduardo Nunez. Nunez offers versatility. While he’s not elite (or even average) defensively at either third base or shortstop, he could be an upgrade at either position for a number of teams that are currently in the race for a playoff spot.NEW YORK METS (38-32) The Mets need to fill the hole at third base left by David Wright, who may miss the rest of the season following neck surgery. While there has been talk about the club’s interest in Cuban free agent Yulieski Gourriel, which demonstrates their need at the hot corner, we should all know that if the Dodgers are interested in the Cuban - which they are - he’ll end up in L.A. So who could the Mets have that interest the Twins? Marcos Molina, RHP - Molina has a 92-94 fastball that tops out at 96, a plus changeup and a developing slider. He also has a fresh scar on his right elbow as the result of Tommy John surgery which occurred in September. He won’t pitch in 2016 and when he returns in 2017 - to high class-A no less - he’ll still be three promotions from the major leagues. Robert Gsellman, RHP - Gsellman is nearly a clone of Kyle Gibson, who relies primarily on a low-90s sinker. He also has a changeup, curveball and slider in his arsenal, none that excite scouts a whole lot, but he doesn’t walk many (2.0 BB/9) and was recently promoted to AAA. Could profile as a back-end type. Gabriel Ynoa, RHP - Ynoa, who is currently on his second option, has yet to make his MLB debut. He’s long been known for his control. (He’s always had a sub-2.00 BB/9… up until this year). He sits in the low-90s with his fastball and offers both a changeup and a slider. His ceiling is as a back-end starter, but he’s struggled thus far in AAA. KANSAS CITY ROYALS (38-33) Yeah, they are a divisional opponent. And yes, there have been rumors of them pursuing Jose Reyes. But Nunez would offer the versatility that the Royals love and he can play third base while Mike Moustakas is out for the year. Matt Strahm, LHP - Strahm missed 2013 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but he’s had a K/9 over 11.0 in each of his three spots since then. He’s struggled in AAA to start the year, giving up seventy hits in seventy innings so far, but still has a 8.5 K/9 and is walking less than two per nine. Strahm throws a low-90s fastball with a curveball and a changeup. Alex Mills, RHP - Mills made a spot-start for the Royals in May and is now pitching in AAA after starting the year in AA. Mills hits the mid-90s with a plus changeup and also throws a curveball and a slider. Ricky Araceno, SS - Aracena doesn’t fit the close-to-bigs mold I’ve tried to set with the rest of the names on the list, but the 5-8 shortstop is an 18-year-old playing short-season ball and has an advanced bat with the chops to stay in the six-hole. CLEVELAND INDIANS (41-30) Juan Uribe has been better as of late, but the Indians could still use another bat to lengthen their lineup. And if they’re serious about competing with the Royals, they will need to make moves. Juan Hillman, LHP - Hillman is a long way from the big leagues. In fact, he’s only thrown 30 professional innings including one start this year in the New York/Penn league. One draw of Hillman - besides that he’s a high-ceiling starter with loads of potential - is that he was a high school teammate of Nick Gordon and Tom Gordon is his legal guardian. The elder Gordon has helped groom Hillman, who just recently turned 18. Rob Kaminsky, LHP - Kaminsky was drafted by the Cardinals and traded for Brandon Moss. After dominating both low- and high-A ball, he’s struggled with his first taste of AA this year. The 5-11 southpaw has walked (22) almost as many batters as he’s struck out (28) in 51.0 innings. But there’s still hope that he can be a back-end starter if he continues to hone his very good curveball. Those are just a few teams that the Twins could talk to about Nunez. What would you do? It's been almost two weeks since the MLB draft and pending a few final details, the Twins appear nearly set to put a bow on what appears to be a very promising draft class. From the moment the draft wrapped up and word of signings started to trickle in, you've been able to follow all the news right here at Twins Daily. Today, the Twins are expected to officially announce the signing of three more players: Alex Kirilloff, the team's first-round pick, who is signing for slot; Brandon Lopez, who needs to pass his physical to finalize a $30k deal (which saves the Twins $126,600) and switch-hitting prep catcher Kidany Salva, who will sign for $70k pending contract approval. 6/24 Update: Austin Tribby, a big-bodied left-handed pitcher from Missouri who is out of college eligibility, is undergoing his physical and is expected to be official soon. Tribby is almost certainly looking at a $1,000 signing bonus. That will leave only fifth-round pick pitcher Jordan Balazovic remaining. All I've heard is that there are not expected to be any hang-ups with him either, though he is likely to come in over slot. Using Benninghoff's terms, even if Balazovic got the same $600k, the Twins would still have over $62k left. (Though it is possible that Balazovic could eat up all that's remaining.) But let's pretend that the Twins sign all of their Top 10 round picks and still have $75,000 left. They could offer any of their unsigned picks up to $175,000 without penalty. Who could get that money? I'd really like to see the Twins pursue Matt Jones, Canadian prep pitcher, 28th round. And it sounds like there is a distinct possibility they reach a deal with the young lefty. UPDATE: Matt Jones will undergo his physical on Sunday and sign after that. Let's revisit some of the guys that could take up the extra pool money. Shamoy Christopher, JUCO catcher, 20th round: Christopher is one of those "pop-up" guys who not all the teams knew about going into the draft. The Twins liked him, though he hadn't given every indication he wanted to sign. They've been in contact with him throughout the last few weeks, but at this time it sounds as though his demand is more than the Twins are willing to spend. Matt Byars, Michigan State catcher, 24th round: Do the Twins turn to another Wisconsin kid, who played JUCO ball in Illinois before hitting .284 in the Big Ten, adding another catcher to the system? Greg Deichmann, LSU third baseman, 26th round: Deichmann was a draft-eligible sophomore who has only played significantly for one season and has two years remaining. He demonstrated power, hitting 12 home runs in the best conference in America, and only committed eight errors at third base. Deichmann would likely command more money than the Twins have. Could they spread the money out and lock up a couple more players? It's always a possibility. Could there be another player or two they are keeping tabs on? Absolutely. So while the class is almost complete, there still is plenty of intrigue. Download attachment: 2016draft1.JPG Download attachment: 2016draft2.JPG Click here to view the article

The Twins have banked nearly $200K and still have a senior left to sign. I'm guessing they'll be able to give Balazovic at least what they gave Benninghoff ($600K) and still have some money to go fishing.- 80 replies

With short-season starting on Friday, there is plenty of draft news trickling in. You can keep up with all things draft here. Brice Zimmerman, the voice of the Miracle, tweeted out some news Monday morning, announcing that C Alex Real is retiring and OF Max Murphy has been activated. The Twins had a day off on Monday and will start a three-game home series against the Phillies before hitting the road for six game to close out the month of June. Only two affiliate games on Monday. Let’s check them out.RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 8, Columbus 2 Box Score The Red Wings jumped out to a quick start - thanks primarily to drawing three walks in the first four plate appearances - and never looked back. Eddie Rosario, the first Red Wing to get a hit, drove in two runs. Later in the inning, Buck Britton hit a three-run home run. And before Columbus even came to bat, it was 5-0 Red Wings. A second-inning Jorge Polanco double drove in James Beresford to extend the lead to six. Columbus got a run back with a second-inning home run. Rochester got the run back in the top of the third when Eddie Rosario doubled and later scored on a Tommy Field single. Andrew Albers gave up another run in the sixth and lasted seven innings in all. He gave up two runs on five hits and a walk. He struck out six and improved his record to 6-1. Buck Britton drove in another run in the 8th inning to give the Red Wings an 8-2 lead. Britton’s two hits drove in four runs. Eddie Rosario drove in two runs on two hits and also stole his fifth base. Marcus Walden struck out one and allowed one hit in two innings. The Red Wings improve to 43-28. CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Chattanooga - OFF DAY MIRACLE MATTERS Fort Myers 7, Charlotte 2 Box Score After spotting Charlotte two runs in the first inning, the Miracle scored the last seven runs of the game to pull away for the win. Randy Rosario struggled in the first, giving up four hits and two runs, but he settled in nicely after that. A 1-2-3 second was followed by two more hits in the third, but he only walked one batter in his final three innings. In all, Rosario struck out five batters and recorded 11 outs via ground ball, compared to no flyball outs. He improved to 3-5. Fort Myers got on the board in the third inning with a Brian Navarreto two-run home run, his second of the year. They tacked on two more in the fourth inning on a Trey Vavra two-run home run. Navarreto drove in Vavra in the seventh inning to push the lead to 5-2. Vavra drove in two more runs in the eighth inning. Vavra’s three hits produced four runs and he scored twice. Max Murphy doubled in a two-hit game in his return from the disabled list. Edgar Corcino and Navarreto also had two-hit games. Luke Bard struck out three in two innings and Nick Anderson struck out the side - all swinging - in a perfect ninth inning. Carrier signed for slot. I would think both Hackimer and Lopez will provide savings. I'm not convinced they are done otherwise though. My gut says they will make a run at a young catcher.- 80 replies

The graphic up top is wrong, I didn't factor in that the first $100K doesn't go towards the pool. So they are $151,000 over currently. They have to pay a tax for going over and that is not something they were willing to do at all last year. Their limit will be their pool, I'm sure. EDIT: I've fixed the graphic and Casey Scroggins just tweeted out that he signed his contract.- 80 replies

The "draft team" spent a significant amount of time in the War Room on Friday night after the draft was complete. (I was hoping to catch up with a couple of them after we did our radio gig... but they were working late.) I think it's fair to say that after the finished their picks on Friday they realized they were going to have a significant amount of money to spend, so they shopped it. They made the Benninghoff pick knowing full well what his condition was and how much it would take to sign him. Basically, the Twins did exactly what people on these boards have been clamoring for all along.- 80 replies

The Twins start a late-night, West Coast series against the Angels on Monday. Earlier in the day on Monday, the Southern League announced that Daniel Palka was named the league’s Hitter of the Week. Danny Santana, who injured his hamstring, is set to join Rochester to begin his rehab assignment. Let’s check out Monday’s action.RED WINGS REPORT Rochester - DAY OFF CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Chattanooga 4, Tennessee 2 Box Score The power that has been on display in the recent games - mostly by Daniel Palka - was on display again, only this time it was thanks to Zach Granite, who hit a leadoff home run and also stole his 29th base and Levi Michael, who hit his first home run in the fifth inning. Those two runs turned out to be the difference. After Granite gave the Lookouts a quick 1-0 lead, Tennessee took it back with two runs in the third. Chattanooga tied the game right back up in the fourth when D.J. Hicks doubled in Travis Harrison, who had walked earlier in the inning. Michael extended the lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning. The Lookouts added an insurance run when Leo Reginatto drove in Travis Harrison, who walked again, in the eighth inning. Granite, Reginatto and Hicks all had two-hit games. Aaron Slegers won his fourth game, striking out seven in six innings. He allowed four hits and walked four. Both runs were charged to Slegers. Jake Reed pitched two hitless innings, walking two and striking out two. Trevor Hildenberger picked up his ninth save, striking out one batter and lowering his ERA to 0.82. The Lookouts improved to 33-31 on the season, but have been eliminated from clinching a playoff berth in the first half of the season. MIRACLE MATTERS Fort Myers 1, Lakeland 4 Box Score Fort Myers got on the board with their lone run in the 7th and they did so without even getting a hit. Joe Maloney reached on a throwing error before both Logan Wade and Alex Real walked. Alex Perez drove Maloney in with a ground out. Randy LeBlanc got the start and struggled, allowing eight hits, two walks and four runs in five innings. John Curtiss struck out one in two innings; he allowed a hit. Yorman Landa pitched the final frame, striking out two and walking one. The offense was non-existent. The 7-8-9 hitters in the order accounted for all three of the team’s hits. Alex Real doubled and Alex Perez and Brian Navarreto each singled. The Miracle drop to 30-33 on the season. KERNELS NUGGETS Cedar Rapids 1, Burlington 5 Box Score Sam Clay got the start and fell one out short of six full innings. He struck out seven, walking three and allowing three runs on five hits. Clay falls to 4-3 on the season. After Michael Cederoth got out of the six and through the seventh - though he allowed three baserunners - by striking out two and getting well-timed outs, the ball was turned over to Cameron Booser. Booser struggled in his inning of work. He allowed one hit, walked three and two runs scored. He struck out two. Kuo Hua Lo struck out one in a scoreless ninth. The bats were quiet. They scored their one and only run in the fifth inning with Sean Miller singled in Luis Arraez, who led off the inning with a hit, his second single of the night. Arraez was the only Kernel with a multi-hit game. Zander Wiel, Nelson Molina and Brad Hartong provided the rest of the Kernels hits, all singles. Jake Mauer was ejected for the second consecutive game. The Kernels drop their fifth straight, falling to 33-30 and are now 2.5 games back in their division. The draft has officially wrapped up, but make this your one-stop shop for all the post-draft news. All the draft information in one place.Download attachment: 2016draft1.JPG Download attachment: 2016draft2.JPG DRAFT POOL: $8,153,500 If you're viewing in the forum, click here to see the graphics. 6/21: Jonathan Mayo tweeted out details of Thomas Hackimer and confirmed my Saturday report of Mitchell Kranson. The Twins also officially announced the signing of Matt Albanese. Download attachment: hackimertweet.JPG Download attachment: kransontweet.JPG The club will save an additional ($50K? $75K) when they sign Lopez and and might have to give a similar amount to Balazovic that they gave to Benninghoff. Fortunately, they'd be right in line to do that with the anticipated Lopez savings. Then the attention turns to Salva and Christopher, in my opinion. --- 6/20: Lots of draft happenings over the weekend. The biggest news was the club's agreement with first-round pick OF Alex Kirilloff. As Doogie suggested on draft night, the agreement is for exactly slot. That is confirmed in this tweet by Jim Callis. Download attachment: kirillofftweet.JPG Expect Kirilloff to arrive in town later Wednesday and head to Target Field Thursday morning to pass his physical, sign his contract and take in the afternoon clash with his home-state Phillies. (Why wouldn't the Twins have him throw out the first pitch?) -- The Twins also released via their game notes on Sunday that they had signed 26 draft picks. Most of them had already been listed right here, but there were a few new names (mostly college seniors). The list also included 10th-round pick Brandon Lopez, who is still playing in the College World Series. The Twins later announced - after I pointed that out on Twitter, ironically - that they actually hadn't signed Lopez. Download attachment: gamenotes.JPG With that deal obviously going to happen, only Jordan Balazovic is unsigned, but there's really no reason to be concerned about that either. Download attachment: balazovic.JPG So that puts the entire class of the Top 10 rounds in tow. When they're all delivered, there will be extra money to spend. It will be interesting to see who they make their #1 priority. Stay tuned for more news as I hear it. -- 6/18: Mitchell Kranson signed for $90,000 per source. Though he was primarily a third baseman at Cal, he will get an opportunity to catch. His signing saved the Twins $76,300. They will still need to shave more than $75,000 to avoid penalty, though that will not be an issue with two more seniors still needing to come to terms/have their bonus revealed. -- Shane Carrier has also signed according to game notes. Though his bonus hasn't been reported as of 11:30 am, it's believed to be under slot according to a source. 6/17: Lots of Tyler Benninghoff news on Friday. If you read in the comments (or didn't), the Twins were able to cut a deal with Benninghoff before the draft on Saturday morning, most likely Friday night, after they had a pretty good idea how much of their pool allotment they would spend on the Top 10 rounds. They are currently about $250,000 over budget, but still have three seniors to sign that will save them a significant amount. (It wouldn't shock me if they save enough to go overslot with Balazovic and still have some left to chase a prep player from the later rounds). But I've been told all those negotiations wait until the Top 10 is done. Download attachment: benninghofftweet1.JPG Download attachment: benninghofftweet2.JPG Jim Callis tweeted the Jose Miranda deal. Another underslot deal too. The Twins are essentially buying another high picks... Download attachment: mirandatweet.JPG Jim Callis tweeted that Matt Albanese signed for underslot. The Twins have banked an additional $20K. Download attachment: albanesetweet.JPG I was told earlier this morning that there was "no hurry" on Albanese to officially sign as he currently has an injured wrist and won't be playing for four to six weeks. He had agreed to terms was to undergo his physical early next week. Maybe I was just being overly cautious after reporting that Kyle Cody had agreed to terms last year only to fail his physical. -- MDR Sports tweeted out that their client, Jose Miranda, signed his contract with the Twins. Though the official number hasn't been released, expect it to be for just under slot. Download attachment: Mirandatweet.JPG Of the top 10-round picks, this leaves Jordan Balazovic as the one that might be hardest to get done, though I don't anticipate that being too difficult. (I'd guess he'll come overslot). Kirilloff's season just ended, so I'd guess he will be in the Cities within the next few days. There is no hurry on Albanese (with the wrist), but I'm sure the Twins have his price locked in. The 10th round pick, Brandon Lopez, is still playing for Miami in the College World Series, but there will be savings there too. So where is all this extra money going? Benninghoff is the odds-on favorite. But there might still be some money left. Could that go to one of the young catchers? Kidany Silva to get him out of his Sam Houston State commitment or Shamoy Christopher, an unknown community college commodity? What if Benninghoff's physical gives the Twins pause? Would Greg Deichman or TJ Collett be in play? There could be a lot of intrigue leading up to the signing deadline. -- 6/16: I was informed this morning that Benninghoff is on his way to Fort Myers. Typically this is a precursor to a deal but - while I remain optimistic a deal will get done - I would anticipate there being a significant amount of time looking at his right arm during the physical. If everything checks out, I'd anticipate a deal is struck relatively quickly. 6/15: Baddoo came in under slot, as was reported to be the case here earlier this morning. Jim Callis tweeted the specifics. Download attachment: baddootweet.JPG Matt Albanese is close to signing. He does have a broken wrist that will keep him out of action for the next 4-6 weeks. A number of players are expected to arrive in Fort Myers today. Look for official word on many of these signings by the end of the day tomorrow. -- As of the reported draft signings, the Twins have saved $109,400. That does not included expected saving on Baddoo, Hackimer, Kranson and Lopez. Those additional savings should give the club the flexibility to sign the rest of their top 10 and make a strong run at Benninghoff, who I expect to sign. The teams is also "progressing" on deals with young catchers Kidany Silva and Shamoy Christopher. -- 6/14: Later on Tuesday night some more draft news started trickling in. The Twins tweeted that they signed Akil Baddoo, Griffin Jax and Alex Schick. That was followed up by these tweets. Download attachment: schicktweet.JPG Download attachment: jaxtweet.JPG The only reported signing from yesterday without a bonus - Akil Baddoo - should come in a "tick under slot" according to a source. -- Jim Callis tweets that Ben Rortvedt signed for $900k (saving the team $241,600). -- According to sources, a number of others have agreed to terms and/or signed their contracts already. If I've only heard they've agreed to terms and they have eligibility remaining, I'm not going to list them until I know they're official (for eligibility reasons). Purely speculative, but I believe Baddoo will be overslot. Hackimer, Kranson and Lopez will all help save money. During the draft, I was told those savings were for "a few" guys. Benninghoff is definitely going to dip into the pool if the Twins decide to go that route, but I'd be a little surprised if they knew they saved enough to sign him when they drafted him. I'd guess he'll come down to the wire, along with Christopher. 6/13: Twins tweet out that have have signed second-round pick Ben Rortvedt to a contract. Rortvedt's slot is worth $1,141,600. According to a source, the Twins have agreed to terms with at least five others as well. Stay tuned. And, as always, feel free to comment below. Click here to view the article

We'll post all 30 choices here with a little bit of additional information on each pick. Before we get started, here is a quick glance (with links) of where we are after two days of Minnesota Twins Draft Picks: DAY ONE PICKS 1st Round (15) - OF Alex Kirilloff - Pennsylvania High School (Story) 2nd Round (56) - C Ben Rortvedt - Wisconsin High School (Story) Lottery B (73) - SS Jose Miranda - Puerto Rico High School Lottery B (74) - OF Akil Baddoo - Georgia High School (Story on 73/74) DAY 2 PICKS Here is a quick reminder of the Day 2 picks. For more on each player, click here. Round 3 (93rd overall): Griffin Jax, RHP, Air Force Round 4 (123rd overall): Thomas Hackimer, RHP St. John's Round 5 (153rd overall): Jordan Balazovic, RHP, Canada High School Round 6 (183rd overall): Alex Schick, RHP, California Round 7 (213th overall): Matt Albanese, CF, Bryant University Round 8 (243rd overall): Shane Carrier, OF, Fullerton College (JC) Round 9 (273rd overall): Mitchell Kranson, C, California Round 10 (303rd overall): Brandon Lopez, SS, Miami PODCASTS John and Jeremy were on KFAN on Friday night to talk about the Twins draft. In the second segment, they were joined by Twins top pick Alex Kirilloff. Get to know the talented outfielder. DAY 3 PICKS Day 3 picks are limited to $100,000 maximum signing bonus. Any dollar value over that amount will go against their draft limits from the first ten rounds. Here are the Day 3 picks (will be updated as selections are made): Round 11 (333rd overall): Tyler Benninghoff, RHP, HS in Kansas Benninghoff has dealt with some arm issues after a football injury in the fall. Very talented. The Arkansas commit is a three-sport athlete with a low-90s fastball and a hammer curveball that is one of the best in the class. Signability is obviously an issue here. Round 12 (363rd overall): Zach Featherstone, LF from Tallahassee CC Well-regarded prep who is committed to North Carolina State after spending two years in junior college. Round 13 (393rd overall): Ryan Mason, RHP, UC-Berkeley Already the third Cal-Berkeley player drafted by the Twins in this draft after taking Chris Paul last year and Trevor Hildenberger and Michael Theofanopoulos in 2014. Round 14 (423rd overall): Andre Jernigan, SS, Xavier Jernigan is described as a slick-fielding, power-hitting athletic shortstop who was named the Big East Player of the Year in his senior year. Round 15 (453rd overall): Tyler Wells, RHP, Cal State San Bernardino Round 16 (483rd overall): Tyler Beardsley, RHP, Cal State Sacramento Round 17 (513th overall): Kidany Salva,C, Texas HS Round 18 (543rd overall): Tim Richards, SS, Cal State Fullerton Richards hit well all season and has the chops to possibly stick at shortstop professionally. Round 19 (573rd overall): Sean Poppen, RHP, Harvard The senior is probably the smartest guy the Twins will draft this year. Big and strong, Poppen is up to 93 with his fastball. Round 20 (603rd overall): Shamoy Christopher, C, Roane State CC Christopher, from the Virgin Islands, was described to me as a "pop-up" guy. He can really catch and throw, but has a long ways to go with the bat. Younger than many high school guys. Round 21 (633rd overall): Domenick Carlini, LHP, SE Louisiana Round 22 (663rd overall): Hank Morrison, OF, Mercyhurst Big, athletic, power/speed combo (but obviously doing it as a 22-year-old against low competition). Round 23 (693rd overall): Caleb Hamilton, SS, Oregon State. Hamilton was drafted out of high school and didn't sign. This year he didn't play much and had a sub-.200 batting average. Digging on this pick... Update: Twins have always been a big fan of Hamilton, who played a lot early in his career but was recruited over. Very good defensively, athletic with raw power and can run. A deal with Hamilton should be done soon. Round 24 (723rd overall): Matt Byars, C, Michigan State Byers was a Wisconsin prep player, the second Wisconsin prep catcher they have taken. Round 25 (753rd overall): Colton Davis, RHP, Western Carolina The senior was a four-year contributor in the Catamount bullpen, making 90 appearances. Davis had a career K/9 of 10.89. Round 26 (783rd overall): Greg Deichmann, 3B, LSU Round 27 (813th overall): Scott Ogrin, LF, California HS Committed to Cal Poly. Round 28 (843rd overall): Matt Jones, LHP, Sinclair Secondary School (Canada HS) Walt Burrows continues to have his scouting presence in Canada felt during his first draft with the Twins. Jones, who hails from the same school as Stephen Wickens, is committed to the University of Montevallo. Round 29 (873rd overall): Dane Hutcheon, SS, U of Montevallo The diminutive infielder hit .365 with 16 stolen bases this season. Round 30 (903rd overall): Quin Grogan, RHP, Lewis-Clark State Grogan struck out 83 in 75 1/3 innings this season. Round 31 (933rd overall): Juan Gamez, C, North Dakota State A stocky catcher with a strong arm, Gamez will need to improve with the bat. Round 32 (963rd overall): Matt Wallner, RHP, Minnesota HS The Forest Lake senior is committed to Southern Miss. Round 33 (993rd overall): Clark Beeker, RHP, Davidson Fifth-year senior is an innings-eater who doesn't miss many bats, but doesn't walk many either. Round 34 (1,023rd overall): Joe Cronin, SS, Boston College Drafted as a shortstop, Cronin hasn't started a game there since 2014, instead splitting his time between first and third base. Cronin walks nearly as much as he strikes out. Round 35 (1,053rd overall): Austin Tribby, LHP, Missouri Bullpen arm for Mizzo who has a good K-rate. Round 36 (1,083rd overall): Patrick McGuff, RHP, Morehead State McGuff has been a two-year starter for Morehead State and has struck out a lot of batters (98) in 99 2/3 innings. He's also walked 58, which isn't great. Round 37 (1,113th overall): Danny Mayer, OF, Pacific Getting his first significant game action in three years, Mayer hit 15 home runs and .314. Round 38 (1,143rd overall): Brent Rooker, RF, Mississippi State Batted .315 in his only year as a full-time starter. Round 39 (1,173rd overall): Casey Scroggins, CF, U of Tampa Speedy outfielder with great defensive skills. Round 40 (1,203th overall): TJ Collett, C, Indiana HS Click here to view the article
