RED WINGS REPORT
Rochester - DAY OFF
CHATTANOOGA CHATTER
Chattanooga 4, Tennessee 2
The power that has been on display in the recent games - mostly by Daniel Palka - was on display again, only this time it was thanks to Zach Granite, who hit a leadoff home run and also stole his 29th base and Levi Michael, who hit his first home run in the fifth inning.
Those two runs turned out to be the difference.
After Granite gave the Lookouts a quick 1-0 lead, Tennessee took it back with two runs in the third. Chattanooga tied the game right back up in the fourth when D.J. Hicks doubled in Travis Harrison, who had walked earlier in the inning.
Michael extended the lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning. The Lookouts added an insurance run when Leo Reginatto drove in Travis Harrison, who walked again, in the eighth inning.
Granite, Reginatto and Hicks all had two-hit games.
Aaron Slegers won his fourth game, striking out seven in six innings. He allowed four hits and walked four. Both runs were charged to Slegers. Jake Reed pitched two hitless innings, walking two and striking out two.
Trevor Hildenberger picked up his ninth save, striking out one batter and lowering his ERA to 0.82.
The Lookouts improved to 33-31 on the season, but have been eliminated from clinching a playoff berth in the first half of the season.
MIRACLE MATTERS
Fort Myers 1, Lakeland 4
Fort Myers got on the board with their lone run in the 7th and they did so without even getting a hit. Joe Maloney reached on a throwing error before both Logan Wade and Alex Real walked. Alex Perez drove Maloney in with a ground out.
Randy LeBlanc got the start and struggled, allowing eight hits, two walks and four runs in five innings. John Curtiss struck out one in two innings; he allowed a hit. Yorman Landa pitched the final frame, striking out two and walking one.
The offense was non-existent. The 7-8-9 hitters in the order accounted for all three of the team’s hits. Alex Real doubled and Alex Perez and Brian Navarreto each singled.
The Miracle drop to 30-33 on the season.
KERNELS NUGGETS
Cedar Rapids 1, Burlington 5
Sam Clay got the start and fell one out short of six full innings. He struck out seven, walking three and allowing three runs on five hits. Clay falls to 4-3 on the season.
After Michael Cederoth got out of the six and through the seventh - though he allowed three baserunners - by striking out two and getting well-timed outs, the ball was turned over to Cameron Booser. Booser struggled in his inning of work. He allowed one hit, walked three and two runs scored. He struck out two.
Kuo Hua Lo struck out one in a scoreless ninth.
The bats were quiet. They scored their one and only run in the fifth inning with Sean Miller singled in Luis Arraez, who led off the inning with a hit, his second single of the night. Arraez was the only Kernel with a multi-hit game.
Zander Wiel, Nelson Molina and Brad Hartong provided the rest of the Kernels hits, all singles.
Jake Mauer was ejected for the second consecutive game.
The Kernels drop their fifth straight, falling to 33-30 and are now 2.5 games back in their division.
