  1. You can go more in-depth on any specific player in the Twins Daily Draft Tracker. I'll give you the class overview here. All of the Top 10 round selections and seven of the Day 3 selections are signed, sealed and delivered. We'll keep you updated at Twins Daily as they all embark soon on their professional careers. Only Brooks Lee (first round) and Connor Prielipp (second round) came in over slot. Surprisingly enough, Lee's bonus was more over slot than Prielipp's. Both figure to enter the Twins Top 10 prospects and it isn't out of the question to consider Lee and Prielipp the organization's top hitting and pitching prospect, respectively. In order to get both players signed to over slot deals, the Twins had to shave money off their Day 2 picks. Each one of those players came in under slot - between $24,100 and $178,500 - to guarantee the Twins could make that happen. Now that the dust has settled and figures are public, there are a few interesting tidbits. The Twins spent $9,933,700 of their $10,081,500 bonus pool, meaning they still have $147,800 remaining to spend. Additionally, they could spend 105% of their bonus pool without any penalty. That means the Twins could spend up to $651,875 more. Omari Daniel has not signed yet, but he will be reporting to Fort Myers this weekend and is likely to forego his college eligibility to begin his professional career. Sources have indicated that Daniel's bonus will not exceed $125,000, which would require the signing team to dip into their bonus pool. So that leaves Garrett McMillan (Alabama) and Korbyn Dickerson (Kentucky prep committed to Louisville). Both have said publicly they will not be signing and that would be the expected outcome. The Twins could offer either one $272,800 (sixth round money) to sign. That would put them right at the limit of their bonus pool. If they wanted to use the 5% extra, they could sign either to $776,875 (which is basically third round money) or they could offer each $450,937 (late fourth round money). A late signing after professing publicly that a player is returning isn't unprecedented. The Twins signed Edouard Julien for $493,000 in 2019 after he stated he was going back to Auburn As the signing deadline approaches next week, the only question remains... will either McMillan or Dickerson change their mind? 4. I felt my streak would be in danger as soon as Prielipp got drafted and Day 2 became an underslot day. But that's ok... it sets the bar low for next year.
  5. The first year the draft pools existed, there was almost no difference between the last pick of the 10th round and the first pick of the 11th. (I think it was like 106k vs 100k.) As the pools increased each year (or almost every year), the gap got bigger and bigger. Eventually they bumped the 100k up to 125k. My guess is that in the next couple year, when the 10th round gets to 155 or 160, the 125 will bump to 150.
  6. Since there has been a lot of chatter about Daniel, I got a bunch of information on him that I'll be plugging in on the tracker in the next 30 minutes or so. Stay tuned...
  7. I think some of these points are accurate. I think others are not. I've been told it's on the area scouts to be able to put a number next to the their guys names on the draft board. I don't think it's an exact number. But if you put $50K next to a guys name and then draft him with a $200K slot value pick, his number better not all of the sudden be $200K. But I think that's much harder with guys at the top of the draft. There was a chance that Lee was going #1 at a discount. The Twins didn't think he'd fall, so I'm guessing discussions with him were more brief and the Twins probably just considered him a "full slot" guy when they took him. As Prielipp fell, I'd be shocked if the Twins weren't doing work on him. They probably had some intel on him at #8... but #48 is a huge tumble. If they weren't in directs talk with him, it was likely the hung a price on his name - let's say $3m - and that only leaves about $80k per pick after that. That's pretty significant information that a team is going to need going into yesterday. And I'd be really surprised if the Twins don't take someone today - just in case - that might have have $1m+ demand, just in case Prielipp doesn't get done.
  8. We've reached the halfway point of the 2022 MLB Draft, which will conclude with 10 more rounds later this afternoon. The draft will resume at 1:00 pm this afternoon and figures to be all wrapped up between 4:00 and 5:00. After starting off at a snail's pace on Sunday night, Day 2 moved significantly faster. Here's to hoping for more of the same tomorrow. One big change in draft coverage at Twins Daily this year is the introduction of the Twins Draft Tracker. If you feel like there's less draft coverage on the front page and in the forums from Twins Daily staff, it's because you're right. The length of Day 1 provided us some time to do other things (like record a video or push out an article after a pick), but the swiftness of the rest of the draft keeps most of the activity over in the Tracker. That's where new scouting information and signing information will go. It's a neat feature that Brock put together if you haven't checked it out. Round 11: Andrew Cossetti, C, St. Joseph's Round 12: Nate Baez, C, Arizona State Round 13: C.J. Culpepper, RHP, Cal Baptist Round 14: Omari Daniel, SS, The Walker School (GA) Round 15: Ben Ethridge, RHP, Southern Mississippi Round 16: Jankel Ortiz, SS, Academia Presbiteriana HS (PR) Round 17: Alec Sayre, OF, Wright State Round 18: Zachary Veen, LHP, Point Loma Nazarene Round 19: Garrett McMillan, RHP, Alabama Round 20: Korbyn Dickerson, OF, Trinity HS (KY) Of course, keep the conversation going in the comments below. It was fun to read through the comments as I was able yesterday and try to interject as much as I could. I hope to do the same tomorrow. Here again is the quick recap of the first ten rounds with bonus information. Player Round Slot Brooks Lee, SS, Cal Poly 1 $5,439,500 Connor Prielipp, LHP, Alabama 2 $1,621,900 Tanner Schobel, SS, Virginia Tech CB $1,001,500 Andrew Morris, RHP, Texas Tech 4 $533,100 Ben Ross, SS, Notre Dame Coll. 5 $398,200 Jorel Ortega, SS, Tennessee 6 $301,000 Kyle Jones, RHP, Toledo 7 $235,400 Zebby Matthews, RHP, W. 12. It's collectively bargained and one of the sticking points in the discussions about an international draft. One might argue that the whole system of a draft is broken and players should all enter as free agents. This system would be much closer to that than the NBA and the NFL. I don't love it either. I know scouts hated it originally (and have probably just learned that it's the reality of how it is now).
  13. Before everyone freaks out, it was the right approach. No prep players. No toolsy outfielders. Not a single catcher. It may not have been the Day 2 that everyone was hoping for, but it was the Day 2 the team needed after a near-perfect opening night. You can check out the Twins Draft Tracker for more information on each of the first ten picks. That will continue to be a work-in-progress as we get more information on the players. But as far as the draft today went, it shouldn't have been too surprising. After having Brooks Lee fall into their lap at #8 and then Connor Prielipp tumble all the way to #48, there is no doubt the Twins worked even later into the night to try to figure out exactly how much money it was going to cost to sign those two players. And I'm *guessing* $7 million isn't going to be enough. Maybe it's $8 million. Maybe it's $9 million. I don't know. But I bet the Twins draft room has a pretty good idea. So this afternoon, it wasn't a question of, "who is the best guy we can get in the fourth round for slot?" but instead a question of, "Who do we like the most that will sign for $100K?" and "Who is the guy we like the most that will sign for $40K?" Now let's not confuse that strategy with punting picks or not taking baseball players. Mitch Garver was one of those players and he was great. Some of these guys were going to be Day 2 picks anyway. Some of these guys were probably favorites of the organization to be early Day 3 picks. And a lot of them have something intriguing about them, whether it's that they've crushed pitching (in a small sample) or have hit for ridiculous averages or throw a knuckleball. 15. Jones is definitely going to be under-slot. Maybe gets $75k, probably less.
  16. I do think they will have to go overslot to get Prielipp and will require some finagling of their bonus pool through all of Day 2. Lee falling was also a surprise, so it's likely these guys are all going to be safe, underslot picks. And they'll take some shots tomorrow in case they have some extra dollars.
  17. Edouard Julien comes to mind for me. A bat that needed to be in the lineup. A glove that would be best in the dugout. But not a typical DH profile. Those are the types of guys that get drafted at 2B.
  18. Put up huge numbers at a small college and in the Northwoods League. Guessing he'll come under slot.
  19. Rocker is getting $5.2m, so they're banking $2.4. Porter's slot was $560k. The Rangers will shave money of more of their picks and Porter will get Top 12ish money.
  20. I'm pretty sure he's a Boras guy. I'm also pretty sure Rocker and Porter are a package deal.
  21. Appreciate it guys! This wasn't me alone though. Jamie's done just as much and keep Twitter covered last night. And Brock and Seth behind the scenes made everything run smoothly. The draft tracker is super cool.
