  1. I thought Duffey got sent to the DL. Did I miss something?
  2. Sure, Ryan moved vets all the time. Pelfrey didn't really have any demand at the trading deadline (and the Twins kind of needed him). But I think most teams are going to want more than 4 good starts before they jump on his contract. He was bad for two years and has two more years on his contract (I believe). He's not going to be in high demand.
  3. I'm not sure what comments May has made - although I know is ST he said he wanted to start followed by the usual "do whatever is best for the team" BS. I did read Meyer's comments about wanting to stay in the bullpen. But I don't think going from the pen to the rotation (or vice versa) affects the pitcher if it is communicated correctly. Obviously, Gardy did a pretty good job of making sure Liriano and Santana understand their roles and they were pretty good in both. If Molitor says to Meyer "we're using you in the pen for now but we hope you get 15 starts this season" I think it's good. If pitchers are getting yo-yo'd back and forth without always understanding what is happening (Kevin Gausman in Balt as an example) that could be a bad thing. But generally, I don't think it affects the pitcher.
  4. Well, Buxton and Rosario not hitting is the issue. Park/Sano/Plouffe are not really an issue. Those three have (SSS) OPS+ of 136, 117, 141. I'm sure that's a problem the Twins would love to have all year.
  5. Neal's twitter -
  6. Well, the reason Kepler was up here in the first place was b/c the Twins didn't have any other old vet on the 40 man roster. That's why they seemed to get Murphy.
  7. Well, that's expected. That means the starting OF for now will be Arcia/Rosario/Sano. Danny Santana is the 4th OFer. Hopefully, Kepler and Buxton can force the issue in a few weeks but they needed consistent at-bats and they weren't getting them.
  8. I believe May started from the get go and was put in the pen by the Molitor. Not really the same thing. (And Molitor might not be a big fan of Meyer starting - I read somewhere that he voted against letting him start and wants him to be a bullpen arm. Ryan and others wanted Meyer to start). In any event, I don't think pitchers are too confused by "mixed messages". Meyer needs to get guys out at the ML level and not walk every other batter. If he can do that, he'll be in good shape.
  9. Nah, Milone is throwing a perfect game tonight to keep his rotation spot.
  10. Sure, he's hitting like crap and I don't expect much from him. But if he, as Mike suggests, sits on the bench and lets the Twins go with Arcia/Rosario/Sano while Buxton and Kepler get needed at bats in AAA, he's fine. (Or they could let him leave and let Danny Santana hang onto that role).
  11. That could happen. Arcia/Rosario/Sano with Murphy on the bench and Buxton in AAA.
  12. It's been a while but didn't they also reach out to Renteria after the Cubs fired him to hire Maddon?
  13. Well, when your LFer and CFer have sub 60 OPS+, you probably have to do something. Obviously, Murphy is a stop gap but might be able to hit better than that for a month or so.
  14. Neal is reporting thatSantana will be activated (most likely Kepler to AAA). Murphy will get the call up before May 1 and added to 40 man roster (Buxton likely headed to AAA).
  15. Isn't he going to the DL?
  16. I'm not sure. I think the simplest take on this is that the Twins need arms and Meyer's the best arm to bring up today that can help. In the long run, we'll see. If Milone has another crap start, I think he'll be replaced - either by Meyer or Berrios. (As for why they made him start, it was to get him more innings. Even if they never wanted him to start at the ML level again, that made sense.) But I do hope he gets some starts.
  17. I'm not sure how many hitting coaches were considered (the Twins have two) but I believe the Twins interviewed about 6 people for the manager job and Molitor, Dougie Baseball and someone from the Red Sox were the three finalists, IIRC.
  18. http://www.startribune.com/twins-to-call-up-meyer-other-moves-expected/376985501/ Sounds like he'll be in the bullpen first and can be used in either short or long situations. Hopefully, he's here to stay.
  19. To be fair, Gardy had a nice run of overachieving (in most people's eyes) Twins teams and then was given some pretty crappy rosters before he was fired. I think Molitor's rope will be much shorter.
  20. I think Molitor was a Pohlad hire as much as a Ryan hire so I don't think he'll be fired in season at all. I think he'll manage the team again next year unless we're something like 62-100. Longterm, I think he'll be replaced by Dougie Baseball but probably not for another two or three years. What I want to happen is different than what I think will happen. I'm not Molitor's biggest fan nor Bruno's so if they were replaced I would be perfectly fine with that. I think Molitor's bullpen use and yanking Buxton in and out of the lineup are real concerns.
  21. Yeah, I noticed that, too. And he's always calling him Lohse. Maybe there is some behind the scenes stuff about Gibson that we don't know. But right now, I think he's considered a big part of the Twins future rotation so I don't think they'll demote him. But he does have to pitch better (and I think he will).
  22. He had a 3.57 era after his third start. The season is too young to worry about SSS when you have an established track record. He got bombed by the Nats. It happens. He won't get to put up a lot of 3ip, 7ER starts but he won't. He's a better pitcher than that. Worst case would be something like 15 starts, 5.10 era, bad k/bb numbers and then a demotion to the pen. I don't think that happens but I do think, unless his ERA shoots up to 7.00 or something, they'd give him 15 starts before moving him to the pen.
  23. It won't happen. Gibson started worse last year, IIRC. Gibson is considered a big part of the teams future rotation so they'll give him a half year before they consider yanking him from the rotation.
  24. As others said, pitching hasn't really been the problem. I'm sure he and Meyer will be up fairly soon but the hitters are the problem.
  25. Anyone watch the first episode? I thought it was ok but they are really milking the episodes. Not much really happened, except for the last scene with Melisandre. Also looks like the show is going to be pretty much done with any Dorne story lines. It was nice to see Varys and Tyrion together.
