  1. I hope you're right. Also, I didn't know about the incognito tab. Cool.
  2. The Twins have two former top 100 pitching prospects, both under 24, set to start the season in the rotation. They have a solid vet in Santana and Gibson, who was a disaster last season but should be better, is perhaps the pitcher most likely to benefit from a pitch framing catcher. Hopefully, May gets back into the rotation. They have 2 top 100 pitching prospects sitting at AA as well. They have the prospects. They just have to have them start pitching well at the ML level. The Twins can also improve the staff by improving the bullpen and overall team defense by keeping Grossman and Danny Santana out of the field. They can sign a mediocre FA starter instead of giving up Dozier.
  3. That's from mlbtraderumor's write up (I don't have any more free reads of strib articles this month). "Neal suggests that the sticking point between the Twins and the Dodgers, who have long been the clear primary suitor for Dozier, has been that Los Angeles is seeking a straight up, one-for-one swap of Dozier and top pitching prospect Jose De Leon."
  4. Well, if LEN is right and the best offer out there is a one for one swap for De Leon the Twins would be better by keeping Dozier.
  5. Well, if the Dodgers are offering 60 cents on the dollar now, maybe they'll offer 75 cents at the deadline so it would even out.
  6. No one has suggested 88 wins. They won 59, they had a pyth of 66 and base runs of 71. Early projections have them at 75 for next year. So, no, I don't think they'll win 88 but they could be around .500 now and make another jump the following year. It really depends on how fast those young former prospects play well and how the FO improves the pitching staff.
  7. I guess we should make a poll but do people who think we should trade Dozier accept the De Leon/Stewart/AAAA piece that is rumored to be on the table by Wolfson? Assuming that's the best offer we can get from the Dodgers.
  8. Well, I'm the low guy on De Leon here. I'm terrified of pitchers linked to shoulder soreness. I don't know what a fair value for Dozier is but I think it's a lot closer to the return the Brewers got for Gomez/Fiers. But if the FO doesn't get a fair offer for him, they can keep him and try and trade him later, if need be. i don't see the point of trading Dozier simply because he'll be gone in two years. We don't have to punt on next season for a start and moving him just to move him makes us worse, not better.
  9. It was the beginning of the season, not the end. Here's John Sickel's report on him that notes he missed April and May because of shoulder and ankle issues: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/9/3/12782230/mlb-rookie-report-jose-de-leon-rhp-los-angeles-dodgers
  10. He missed two months last season with a sore shoulder and an ankle injury.
  11. I'm not against trading Dozier. But I'm against the idea that the Twins can't be good until we're in year 4 or 5 of the Sano era. They have pieces in place and many coming up behind. Don't trade Dozier unless it actually helps. There seems (to me) a sense that we "gotta" move Dozier or it's a failure and I think that's wrong. If we keep Dozier, we have an in his prime player playing with an exciting young core. There are other ways to improve our pitching, if we keep Dozier. Improving the bullpen, natural positive regression, a catcher with better pitch framing abilities, etc.
  12. Next year, the Twins will start the season with five former top 100 prospects - all currently 24 or younger - starting among the 8 position player spots. We have two former top 100 pitching prospects - also 24 and younger - arguably starting in our rotation. We have four more top 100 prospects in the minors and the 1st, 35th and 37th pick in the June draft. The Twins don't need more prospects. They need pitching help. If the FO doesn't think the offer for Dozier isn't worth it, they shouldn't do it.
  13. Not sure I'd buy WWE. First, entertainment is pretty fickle and what interests someone today might not hold them tomorrow. I know WWE is trying to grow (my kids bought a Scooby Doo/WWE video) but it seems limited. They've missed earnings three out of the last four quarters and have been downgraded by several stock watchers. (Which could mean it's a good buy-low candidate). And their 200m bond might hurt current investors in the future, as well. Admittedly, I haven't looked into it much more than that. http://www.barrons.com/articles/why-wwe-shares-are-on-the-ropes-today-1481647034?mod=yahoobarrons&ru=yahoo&yptr=yahoo
  14. That's more quantity over quality but it's close. Sheffield is a bullpen guy. I guess it depends on what you think of Calhoun. I don't think he's a good fit for us but who knows. In any event, I would think that deal would get accepted.
  15. Stewart projects as a back of the rotation guy. Sure, he had a nice rookie season but so did Duffey. From BA: "Stewart is a workhorse, back-end type who will eat innings and has great makeup." They listed his slider as average and his change up as fringe average. Slider can play up at times. From Fangraphs: Stewart projects as a solid No. 4 or 5 starter and could comfortably be a major-league average No. 4 if he finds a more consistent way to deal with right-handed hitters." They like his change up more than BA did.
  16. Oops, you're right. Those guys are FA in two years. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/2018-19-mlb-free-agents.html But no one will outbid the Yankees. Harper grew up a Yankees fan, his LH swing is made for that park. If he has a big MVP type season in him in the next two years, he'll get 500 million.
  17. Well, they are signing Machado and Harper next offseason so I don't think they want to spend 20m to bench Castro.
  18. For what it's worth, reading his reply, it seems that Wolfson thinks De Leon + Stewart are the centerpieces of the Dodger's offer.
  19. Yeah, I think this gets to the heart of it. If the best offer out there is De Leon and either Calhoun or Stewart (which is a popular combo on Dodger blogs) + a AAAA player, then I'd say pass. I think Dave's suggested price - two top 100 prospects in De Leon and Alvarez plus another good piece or two - seems reasonable compared to other trades in the past. If the Twins can't get something in that neighborhood, pass.
  20. I'm not sure it's really changed the power structure of the deal. Twins want X, Dodgers will give up Y. That hasn't changed. Dodgers want Dozier and the other possibilities - Forsythe/Kinsler - have their own problems. Dodgers know that Dozier fixes all their major problems - they were only 7th in the NL in scoring - and he comes cheap. He's literally a perfect fit for them. Twins know that, too. So I do expect the teams will come to an agreement but maybe it'll need ownership on one side to break the impasse.
  21. There's nothing wrong with the Twins trying to get a better deal from the Dodgers or not taking a deal they don't like. I think I preferred the silence of the Ryan administration to the spin this one is creating but to each their own.
  22. Agreed. After the 2011 draft, the draft gurus said that the 2012 class was weaker. But it turns out the 2012 draft might have been even better, esp depth-wise. There are enough intriguing guys in this draft that the Twins should get 3 pretty good prospects with their first three picks.
  23. I don't think Stewart was a need pick. He was pretty clearly a top 5 guy on pretty much every board. IIRC, the two Georgia HS bats were both in play but most here preferred Stewart. I think the college bat most under consideration was Colin Moran.
  24. Interestingly enough, if those years were redone, it's doubtful either Harper or Strasburg would go #1. In 2010 you could make an argument for both Sale and Machado over Harper. And Trout went #25 in 09 and he'd be the obvious #1 in a redraft.
  25. I did not - bought into John Deere around then, instead. Hope you're right on shopify though.
