  1. From mlbtraderumors chat transcript Brian Dozier 3:33 What's the impasse? Steve Adams 3:34 Dodgers don't seem to want to offer up any legitimate prospects beyond Jose De Leon. Twins want multiple well-regarded prospsects. Prich 4:13 Who do you think 'blinks' in the Dozier talks: Dodgers or Twins? Steve Adams 4:13 The Twins aren't trading Dozier for De Leon and junk or just for De Leon straight up. Dodgers will either up their offer or the Twins will hold onto him. Right now, the latter looks considerably more likely Other than Dave, not a single reporter has suggested anything other than De Leon and very little or nothing else.
  2. According to Rosenthal, Dodgers discounted Dozier compared to Twins a bit b/c last season was an outlier, he strikes out too much and hasn't had exposure to a large market. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/dodgers-brian-dozier-second-baseman-trade-twins-011017
  3. mlbtonight just had a thing on this. Lowell suggested that it made a lot of sense for the Twins on a one year deal and made a few points - - Bautista starts hot, hitting 20 home runs at the break, he'll get a good return. - Trading team couldn't put a QO on him under the new system it wouldn't matter anyway. - Stands to gain a lot of money in a make good season with no draft pick concerns - Any attitude concerns aren't a problem for ten weeks. - TF isn't a problem for him - If he and Dozier are on the same team, they could both be sought after at the deadline if the Twins aren't competitive.
  4. The Twins can have three picks in the top 40 or have two picks in the top 40 and Bautista. I'm ok with either plan. Improving the offense can make the pitching staff better, too.
  5. If De Leon really was the only option, the Twins could move on by signing someone like Hammel. Absolutely no reason to give up a guy like Dozier for that.
  6. If he's in LF and Park is DHing .... (gunnarthor then learns that he can't post a Park bang)
  7. It is exciting to think about, esp if Buxton can develop as we hope and bat leadoff and Mauer can have a .365 OBP. I wouldn't blame the FO if they did it but I don't think it gets done.
  8. Sorry for your loss.
  9. I'm not sure "little help" is true. You want them to add top 100 pitching prospects to the rotation next year? They already have two, one of which is more highly regarded than De Leon. Behind them, they have two more top 100 pitching prospects in AA (both left handed, for added fun). Help is on the way (plus likely a top pitching prospect at #1 in the draft). It doesn't make sense to move Dozier for De Leon and Lavine certainly shouldn't be faulted for not accepting a bad trade.
  10. Why is everyone ready to jettison Grossman? Sure, his defense is crap but he can take a walk - something our team lacks. I trust his hitting ability a lot more than I trust Vargas and (sadly) Park right now. As a back-up DH/4th or 5th OF, he's not bad - esp if Molitor uses him in a platoon.
  11. I'm not sure his record wasn't an improvement at Stout. That was a pretty sorry team he took over and had a .340 or so winning percentage in the four years before he took over. I know nothing about college baseball and the divisions so maybe Stout was a major college baseball player but I suspect it's likely that baseball, like football, has some teams that getting to .500 is considered a success.
  12. Did he? Berardino just reported it today.
  13. http://www.twincities.com/2017/01/09/minnesota-twins-hire-toby-gardenhire-as-full-time-coach-in-minors/ Coach in the rookie leagues from the sound of it. Good for him.
  14. I don't think Hughes has a spot in the rotation unless he shows that he's throwing real fastballs again. Every year we argue about SP depth but it's needed. We aren't going to go with 5 starters and Berrios and Mejia will probably be up and down (although it would be great if they locked down a spot for the next decade). It's still a long shot to declare that Molitor will let May start.
  15. I'm in the minority and don't think Raines should be in the HOF - not enough HOF seasons. I'd vote for (in no particular order) Pudge, Vlad, Moose, Martinez, Schilling, McGriff, Kent, Walker, Hoffman and Smith. I don't really like relievers in the HOF and Hoffman and Wagner are pretty similar but we're voting them in, so I guess he should get in. As for Smith, I never thought he should be in but I read a nice little bio of him on Joe Posnanski's site and thought, what the hell, my vote doesn't really count anyway.
  16. Anyone holding a big bet in healthcare? A few years ago we sort of successfully bet on Obamacare and grabbed a nice bit of HCA before selling it. We haven't grabbed anything in that sector since. Not sure what the future holds there with Trump.
  17. I sort of assumed the Twins wouldn't move Santana unless they got some pitching back from a Dozier trade first.
  18. Nah, Bellinger's a stud. He's probably close to where Kepler was after his breakout 2015 season. Bellinger made it to AAA at 20. That's pretty impressive. He dominated AA at the same age and, while his walk/K ratio wasn't quite as impressive as Kepler's, he showed more power and better defense. If I was the Dodgers, I wouldn't give up Bellinger in a trade where I already gave up De Leon. And De Leon is a much better fit for the Twins needs anyway. Twins should be all about getting arms back for Dozier, not bats.
  19. It is kind of weird for a team to sit on a 103 loss team but there really aren't a lot of spots. The OF of Rosario/Buxton/Kepler makes sense - all are 24 or younger, all were former top 100 prospects, it's too early to give up on any of them. In the IF, if they don't trade Dozier, you have Sano/Polanco (two more under 24, former top 100 prospects) on the left side and Dozier/Mauer on the right. Dozier's obviously pretty good and Mauer is locked in under contract. Catcher is Castro, the wily vet. DH is either Vargas or Park or a place we could bring someone in. But really, there's not a lot of upgrades to be made unless we trade Dozier and want to upgrade short stop over Escobar (Profar is still my dream but I really have no idea if he's any good anymore). The rotation has Santana and Gibson as locks. They should switch Duffey and May but with Molitor, who knows. Mejia and Berrios are another two former top 100 prospects, under 24, who can be slipped into the rotation and it is too early to give up on either of them. And after those five you still have Hughes (who the team should know about in ST - it he's still throwing 88, he's cooked) and Santiago (who has been a solid back end type). I'd be happy if the Twins signed Tyson Ross and let him have 20+ starts but he's about the only FA starter who I'd look at. And if the Twins trade Dozier, they'd probably have another starter to add to this group. I think they should add a lot to the bullpen but I'm not sure who but outside of Pressly, I'm not in love with any of our bullpen arms (although Chargois could become something). I think Duffey would be a strong bullpen arm and should let May back into the rotation.
  20. I'm not bothered by the Dodgers offering De Leon as a sign that he's broken (although the Twins should obviously check his physical). He's just not at the Buxton/Sano level but the level below - the Berrios/Kepler level. Urias and Seager were obviously at the Buxton/Sano level.
  21. Well, if we ignore Dave, the national media has reported a few things, fairly consistently. 1) De Leon is the center of any package. 2) The Dodgers will not include Alvarez, Bellinger, Urias. 3) Dodgers are being stingy or overvaluing their prospects w/some writers claiming a 1:1 swap while others insinuating that it's De Leon + minor pieces. 4) Klaw has said he would not keep Verdugo off the table and Dave Cameron has said De Leon and Calhoun would be too much. I'm not sure if we've seen a lot of reports about Brock Stewart's potential availability but Dodger fans here have told us that he'd be too much to give up along with De Leon.
  22. If the FO doesn't think the return is appropriate, it shouldn't make the deal. Worrying about what the team looks like in 2019 is not a reason to make a trade now.
  23. Isn't Urias 19?
  24. I think we should probably base it on what has been reported by trusted sources - which right now means a Dozier for De Leon swap with either nothing else (LEN and Nightengale) or insignificant second pieces involved.
