    I concur OPS does not grow on trees. Quentin wasn't healthy in 2014, nor last year. He did put up OPS's of .855, .877, .838, and .821 the four previous years. Health is obviously a huge question, and wouldn't be helped by playing OF and/or 1b once or twice a week. But I do believe if he's healthy, he'll end up helping some big league team this year. Vargas might be an option (although if both get 250 PAs my money would be on Quentin out hitting Vargas), Kepler not so much. Kepler isn't going to be a bench player this year.

    If he could stay healthy, and get maybe 275 PAs, there's a decent chance Quentin would post the second best OPS on the 2016 Twins. And who cares if he played for the Sox. So did Escobar. Murphy played for the Yankees...

    My guess is Meyer is going into the Rochester rotation in the hopes it speeds up the process of getting him ready to help the Twins bullpen. Edit: although I agree with spy that a two week injury fill in might not be out of the realm of possibility. All of this depends on Meyer performing of course.

    You'll get no argument from me about not addressing the bullpen this past winter. I wanted them to add at least one quality arm from outside the org. However, if anything, moving May to the pen actually DOES indicate 2016's win total is a high priority. They just should have done more.

    They should do what they think will win the most games in 2016. 2017 and beyond should come well behind that in any team list of priorities, pretty much always IMO.

    Kinda off topic, but pullpen related: over on Twinkie Town there's an article up claiming that Tonkin has thrown 46 pitches in games so far this spring, 45 for strikes. That can't possibly be correct, can it? I'm going to assume that's the author not knowing that spring training "game day" pitch counts aren't accurate.

    This would be one time when I agree with Law. I think this trade will be viewed as a steal by the Yankees a couple years from now.

    If we're contending nobody is treating fWAR as gospel in this thread, then to be fair, it should be pointed out nobody is contending May "sucked" either.

    Concur, except the part about adding reliever(s) this past winter. I don't think they ever made any serious attempt. Trades are possible, too, if one believes money should have gotten in the way. And if they had added only one solid pen arm, I'd still think May to the pen probably makes the most sense.

    70 innings of Burdi/Chargois for the 2016 Twins would most likely be a disaster. Chargois has 64 professional innings total, 33 above A ball. Burdi is probably a better bet to be ready at some point this year or next, but certainly can't be considered a sure thing in April, 2016. In fact, were the Twins counting on either of them for prominent bullpen roles to begin 2016, THAT would be something to complain about. Loudly.

    I don't dispute it might cost him money...but many of the same folks up in arms about Trevor May's potential loss of income turn around and argue the Twins should keep Berrios (for example) in the minors for two weeks to delay free agency by a year. That certainly has the potential to cost Berrios money down the road, what's the difference? I suspect nobody really cares about how much money it costs May, they're just looking for reasons to oppose a decisiion they don't agree with. There may be baseball reasons why May to the bullpen doesn't make sense. Make them. You also won't get any argument from me over the Twins lack of effort in improving the bullpen over the winter, but depending on who they had added, I'd probably still think putting May in the pen was a good idea. Not to mention, they DIDN'T address the bullpen, so "what ifs" are fun, but don't get guys out in the 8th inning of a 1 run game.

    I have a hard time getting worked up over the possibility that Trevor May might make less money as a reliever. That's an argument? Seriously?
