    "Top 9 hitters in the org" isn't the proper comparison. The proper comparison is "top hitters who only play 1st base/DH." And against LH pitching, I don't believe Mauer is at the top of that group.

    I think the plan should be for Mauer to be on the bench more.

    If he's subbing for Kepler or Rosario against LH pitching, he's not DHing. If he's DHing, both Rosario and Kepler (and Mauer) are in the lineup against LHers. Or Santana, I guess, which doesn't thrill me. I don't see how that helps much. If they want to give him a try as the fourth OFer, I'm fine with that, even if I think he'll eventually fail. But he doesn't help at DH, They need a RH DH/1b...

    I think most everyone here is overrating Grossman. He's not going to come close to matching last year. Low .700s OPS, tops. Park will be the regular DH, and soon. 775-800 OPS

    I'm very optimistic about Buxton. I'm hoping for an OPS north of .750, heavy on the XBHs. I'd be OK with the occasional bunt for a hit...maybe 10-ish tries on the year. Just enough to keep the corners up.

    Most teams don't even carry 1 "long man" any more. And if there was EVER a time you don't need even one long man, much less two, it's the first week of the season. You've just spent 6+ weeks getting every pitcher on the roster ready for opening day. No starter is coming off a long outing, no reliever has even a hint of overwork. Nobody is injured. The ENTIRE bullpen is ready to go....primed for this exact week, and that doesn't even take into account April off days. Sheesh. This has nothing to do with "needing" two long men.

    Park is already signed to a contract, so it's not an economic issue.

    Monday will be day one. You need 31 before Sep 1, if I remember correctly. Not the way I envisioned the start of the season, I admit. Still, I'm told the opening day roster can change quickly, lets hope they're right.

    You didn't, and don't want a Tony Sipp because he would block guys who aren't here? And in his place Breslow and Haley and Belisle?
