  1. Nice post, some guy. I was too lazy to do the research, but I had the same general impression. Gibson is trending “younger,” Odorizzi the opposite. Technically, I think Gibson hasn’t actually added velocity, but is throwing his four seamer way more, so it appears his velocity has gone up. In any case, he’s not just heaving one two seamer after another up there, and it’s made a huge difference. Bottom line for me: don’t even think of extending Odorizzi first.
  2. It does, however, illustrate the difficulty of being a "draft and develop" team as is often advocated here.
  3. I don't believe Eddie Escobar is an .824 OPS hitter. He was for a couple months this year, I'll give you that. Cruz is going to get a 2 year deal, and can be released if he becomes ineffective. It's only money...money that does zero good in Jim Pohlad's pocket. There's a very real possibility he would be the Twins best hitter in 2019.
  4. I don't think we have the same definition of "clogged." And if "unclogged" means we have the likes of Garver (.749 OPS) and/or Kepler (.727) somewhere in the middle of the lineup on multiple occasions, then I think there's room for clogging it with Cruz. WAR is such a worthless measure I hate to even consider it, but since you brought it up...do you really think a combined 4 WAR from 2 guys hitting in the middle of your lineup is the way to the World Series? BTW, Escobar wouldn't hit 3/4/5 in any kind of good lineup, either.
  5. clog the lineup?? This is a team that featured, among others, the following names in the 3-4-5 holes last year: Grossman Garver Forsythe!! Eddie Escobar Max Kepler Joe Mauer's wet noodle of a bat There is no need to worry about "clogging." Jeebers, I wish there was clogging.
  6. I think what it proves is there were no eligibles in the Twins system even worth a AAA shot. Jay will likely be out of baseball within 1.5 yrs.
  7. Not to mention, if you bring in Austin to PH for Kepler, the opposing manager is free to bring in a RH reliever unless it’s the pitchers first hitter faced.
  8. You need to make room for Adrianza, too, because the Twins aren't going into the season without a second infielder who can play SS.
  9. well he's not playing 2nd, that's Schoop, and he's not playing 3rd. He cant have Adrianza's spot unless you're gonna let him play SS. He can have Cron's spot, but then we're back to Adrianza at 3rd when that bad slide happens.
  10. I’m not sure of anything, but if I was a betting man, and I am, I’d bet on Cruz. Cave will get some ABs anyway. Austin I don’t care about, nor Astudillo.
  11. If you sign Murphy, you’re still one bad slide from Adrianza playing every day.
  12. Four starting outfielders? Two first basemen? You sign Cruz because the middle of your batting order is missing. I could care less if that means Austin isn’t on the roster, or Willians Astudillo is in Rochester.
  13. I watched most of them. Trust me, they were rank.
  14. Sano is going to sink or swim based on his bat, and his health, not his prowess with the glove at third. If he stays healthy, and hits, he'll be at third most days. If he doesn't hit, or can't stay healthy, first base matters not. Cruz/Austin/Cron won't stand in his way, either way. And unless there's a prospect I don't know about, there's nobody in the minors that will push Sano off third either, for quite some time. So it's Sano or Adrianza at third, or possibly Schoop if Gordon suddenly remembers how to hit.
  15. You should address this with the author of the article, no? I'm simply disputing the idea that "standing pat" is a strategy.
  16. I dont view standing pat as a strategy. It's the opposite of a strategy. And it certainly does nothing to move the Twins toward the "sustainable" goal I keep hearing from Falvine.
  17. I dont think anyone has made that claim. But I think I'm on fairly firm ground in stating Bill Smith had the final authority in signing Sano. He was the GM.
  18. Off the top of my head, when I think of Sano, Kepler and Polanco, I think of Bill Smith.
  19. I have no faith in Gordon either. None. But that's not the point. If the plan isn't to compete, why sign Schoop? I don't think that's the plan.
  20. If the plan for 2019 doesn't involve being competitive, why sign Schoop? Just give the job to Gordon.
  21. I think you're exaggerating. I don't remember anyone wanting to run Morneau out of town. And Buxton wasn't even the best player on the Twins in the second half of 2017 (that was Dozier), much less all of MLB.
  22. To each his own. I'm not giving them a pass on not spending, just because it makes for more pleasant conversation. I'm not going to pretend I think it's ok, or it presents some sort of reasonable obstacle. They have no excuse. They have oodles of money available.
