  1. MLB Network talking about how Hanley Ramirez would fit in with the Twins. I wouldn't mind it.
  2. As an umpire, I don't give much credence to pitch framing. If I see a catcher's glove move back to the plate on a borderline pitch, it confirms to me that it missed. I'm looking at the ball, not how the catcher 'presents it' to me.
  3. Fact -- The Mariners traded for Denard Span Fact -- Denard Span played well against the Twins in the series with the Rays The only thing negative about my post was the fact that Denard Span played well against the Twins.
  4. Mariners traded for Denard Span just in time to torture us again this weekend.
  5. Completely appropriate that a pair of jorts would have Gators logos on it as that is the official garb of a Florida football fan.
  6. I'm not the biggest fan of Pressly but if it takes him 8 pitches to get 2 outs and out of an inning, why not trot him back out for the beginning of the next one? You know what kind of effectiveness he has, you don't know what someone new may or may not have. Add that to the fact that the fastest runner is on 1st as the tying run with 0 out and NOTHING is done to attempt an advance (steal, bunt), I wonder just what goes through Molitor's head in clutch situations. This franchise is cursed by mediocrity over the last 6-7 years and it continues to appear that last year was just an aberration. 40+ games in and I can't imagine boat anchors like Lynn, Reed, and Duke turning their ships 180 degrees to the positive.
  7. I guess you can read the rest of my post from a few days ago when I lumped Reed in with the rest of our free agent duds. Almost need to scrub this pitching staff clean and start over. At least Romero's serviceable.
  8. Holy crap, it's like I'm watching a JV high school team that I umpired last week.
  9. He just made an out disappear. Abracadabra.
  10. Sanchez had blue strings on his glove but it was all brown. Loup has gray panels on that other glove he had.
  11. 16 pitches, 6 outs....we like this efficiency!! Send him out again!!
  12. Um, yeah....which is pretty much what I said. If the ball is touching the line, it would be breaking that plane. If there's brown dirt between the ball and the line, then it's not breaking the plane. Not quite sure where the misunderstanding is.
  13. Wowsers...Hildy got a quick 1-2-3 inning!!! Send him out there for the 7th, Molly (#firstguessing)
  14. I could answer that question for ya -- it's pretty easy to see if the ball is touching the line or not as it's rolling. If you see brown dirt between the ball and the line, then it's foul. But like anything else in umpiring, it's the angle that you have as you're looking at it. The HP umpire should be straddling the line looking straight down at it. It's possible that Garver's positioning blocked out the umpire and he may have had to move a little off that normal angle and that may have skewed what he saw, especially if he moved to the foul side of Garver to look at it.
  15. Grossman over the Mendoza Line!! He's on fire!!!
  16. I wonder if Castro would have been smart enough to take the easy out by just picking up the dumb ball.
  17. That's the right call. Wayyyyyyyy outside the running lane for one, in fair territory for two....and yes, you have the right to the base but the snapshot of the runner is taken when the catcher throws it, not when it arrives at the base.
  18. Hale...we've found a bullpen savior!!! At least for that inning.
  19. After being behind the plate for a high school game today that took 2 1/2 hours to play 5 innings, I didn't think I'd see anything as bad. Reds vs Twins: "Hold my beer."
  20. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
