  1. Can we please send Burton to somebody for a bucket of BP balls and a couple of splintered bats? The guy is brutal. When May went out there for the 6th, I said, 'he's getting another inning?'. Made too many mistakes up in the zone and any team will feast on that. Still not sure that he's all that everyone has been raving about.
  2. Thank God Martinez is so slow that he'd finish 3rd in a race with a pregnant woman. And an errorless inning out of Escobar!!
  3. No, but there are $8 million per year contracts available....$10 million if she's lefthanded.
  4. She is an honors student in the 'Pitch to Contact' school.
  5. Nothing like a fan who has no semblance of an idea of his surroundings. They should have a PSA for all people sitting in the front row of all ground-level sections to educate them that an $8 baseball is not that important unless the VISITING team is trying to make a catch!! And I think we should all audition to be a Twins center fielder. Only requirement is to run really really fast to the wall and plant yourself Spidey-like as the ball bounces around the warning track.
  6. Agreed. You can't have that many walks in your 3 appearances and expect to be considered down the line. The last walk was somewhat questionable with that last pitch but he's not going to get that call when he's all over the place. He's pitching just like a AAA pitcher would right now.
  7. What's the point of having replay if that Mauer play can't be checked? It's nearly impossible for the home plate umpire to see it hit the dirt, that's by far my toughest call...but you have to have something in place where that can be reviewed. And then, why does that minor league misfit toss Gardy? He didn't say anything wrong. Doesn't excuse Mauer for swinging at such a crap pitch.
  8. OK, it was a weird kind of no-hitter but still goes in the books as such. Last week, I was in Louisville for work and got to see the Wings lose to the Bats. Now I'm in Rochester for a week of work and popped in to Frontier Field for tonite's "doubleheader". The July 24th game at Durham had been suspended after 3 innings and today was the continuation. Logan Darnell faced the minimum in his 6 innings of work (1 walk, erased on a game-ending double play) to finish off the no-hitter that Trevor May started back on the 24th. I only got to see the final 6 outs but it was still pretty cool to see that happen. In the nightcap, Colabello ripped a dinger around the foul pole in left and Pinto got lucky with a 2-run triple (centerfielder got turned all kinds of around while going back on the ball) to get a 5-4 win. Vasquez made his Rochester debut and I thought he looked good, not impressive, for 4 innings. Then he got into trouble in the 5th, got a talking-to from the pitching coach, and then on the next pitch, laid a fat meatball that Wil Myers deposited in the parking lot for a grand slam. But the guy that impressed me was Oliveros. He pitched the final 2 innings and wow, was he bringing it. Hit mid 90's a number of times. That's a nice fireballer to have in the bullpen. He had pretty forgettable stints with the big club in '11 & '12 but he certainly had some pop on the fastball tonite. Hopefully, I can catch another game or two this week as long as work and/or predicted storms don't get in the way.
  9. In Louisville on business so when I noticed the Wings were in town, I had to make a stop at the ballpark. Caught Milone's first start for the Wings. The nuts and bolts -- 7 innings of 6-hit ball, 1 run, 2 walks and 3 K's with 94 pitches (62 strikes). Unfortunately, Dylan Axelrod threw a 2-hit shutout and made the Wings' bats look like those that we see out of the parent club. As for Milone, he loaded the bases with nobody out in the 1st inning but then got a double play ball and then a groundout to get out of the jam allowing only one run. At one point, his ball-strike number was 14-17. But he settled down and pretty much shut down Louisville's attack the rest of the way, not allowing a runner past 2nd. He was consistently clocked in the mid-80s, but we knew we were getting that kind of velocity out of him. He certainly pitched well enough to get the W. Axelrod just pitched a touch better. Hopefully, he will be on his way to the big club soon.
  10. I turn in my resignation because it'll be quicker than taking one of them and getting fired.
  11. 1st time since the All-Star break scoring more than 5 runs.
  12. From an umpire's point of view, that damn backdoor curve that tries to nip the outside corner is tough to call. But if you recognize the pitch, you can actually use where the catcher catches it to guide your call. Sox catcher framed it well and he got the call. Meanwhile, can we dump Swarzak too? To me, his outing vs the Injuns was more aberration than anything else. I cringe every time I see him come in.
  13. Random thoughts: --Not sure what I think of the red jerseys. Looks like we're in spring training, which could be good if we could reset our record --Vargas looks like he wants to crush the ball on every swing --Can we end this Darnell experiment? At least he pitches to contact like they ask.
  14. Joel Sherman from MLB saying that Price will be traded by the deadline. Makes me wonder about the Rays commitment level to this year if they're gonna let him go. They've been pretty hot since mid-June, though they could use a bat or two to get them even further up the standings.
  15. If this group has any smarts, that had better be an 'over'. I'd put him in the rotation before Pino or Johnson right now.
  16. Milone for Fuld? Freakin brilliant. Milone not any good? I'll take 6-0, 2.61 ERA since early May over 3/5 of what we have in the starting staff right now. As for Mr. Moneyball, I guess it's much more important to win the free agent/trade races than to actually win playoff series.
  17. I'm not sure I'd trade my best major league talent (imo) for a rental in Lester. Moneyball's a fun concept and all but it hasn't exactly spelled out playoff success.
  18. Well, at least they got the window shopping taken care of tonite. 'Can I help you?' 'No, I'm just looking.'
  19. DRINK!!! Good gravy, this offense is anemic.
  20. Sorry, control room-speak for putting an image on the screen.
  21. BASERUNNING BLUNDERS!!!! WTF is Ullger saying to him down there at 3rd? Dozier could have been Speedy Gonzales and the Road Runner tied into one and would have had no shot at scoring there.
  22. Sigh...baserunning blunders. Speaking of blunders, how do you not pop Jamie Hersch on screen when she's giving a report? C'mon, some of us would like to see her!!
