  1. I agree in part. Thorpe so far is awesome and the Twins seem to have bumbled onto a market inefficiency (!) in Australian players. However, the rest of their international spending is frustrating to me. I don't think they spent all of their allotted budget this most previous cycle and they don't seem to go after the big names like Abreu from last year. Which is extremely silly to me since one of their best two prospects was aquired by spending big in the international market. Why not try again? They won't all be Sano, but some could.
  2. Right, and they did so when they were in a down cycle to boot. We don't HAVE to only be aggressive when the team is looking to contend, rather, we could be aggressive in order TO contend. The Twins don't seem to understand this. I'm down on them for sure, but it's frustrating when the organization you want so badly to win, does such silly, foolish, insular things and rarely change.
  3. I have no doubt whatsoever that in a few years the twins "braintrust" will regret this draft. What an absolute joke. I don't care that I don't have eyes on these players like the scouts, I don't need to. Drafting relief arm after relief arm after relief arm is folly and well see the excellent players we could have gotten come up with smarter teams in the years to come.
  4. Sometimes I feel like its hard to be a fan of twins drafting. Climbing aboard the relief pitching train again in a deep HS start in pitchers draft?? Right.... Of coarse I'm not privy to their info bit sometimes you don't need to be. I disliked it when they did this last time and that strategy proved awful. Looking at you chargois, bard et al. Oh well that's the Twins
  5. I really wanted them to grab Jackson when he fell, though I kne they wouldn't. I agree that this might be a mistake with jackson getting comps to wil meyer's career. I will hope for the best though. Super excited for round two!
  6. I've stated in different threads that I wouldn't want anything to do with Gordon. His bat scares me bad, like real bad. Getting Florimon with #5 should scare a lot of people. I would love if they pounced on Jackson if he's there. Same with Kolek. Gotta go with monster upside. I hope the braintrust can be trusted to nab someone interesting with their #2 pick. Eades last year sucks, but Berrios rules. Personally, I would just bug the Cardinals war room and take whoever they would take!
  7. Agree wholeheartedly with the mutual benefits. The PP could definitely use a boost and TD gets opened up to another large segment of the cities who may have been unaware. I would love to see figures for TD site traffic following this deal (and others) I'm sure its very interesting and exciting. On a side note, how can the PP site be soooo universally panned and they still don't address it??
  8. Great work fellas. Did any of you imagine how big TD has become and will continue to be when you started?! Also, as you grow will you continue to avoid the mainstream media pitfalls that you have railed against, namely pulling punches? That is my only concern while reading your continued excellent content. Thanks.
  9. Whoa J.O!! This newly minted twenty-something is killing it. I seem to remember that only a start or two ago whoever wrote the report stated that it was arguably his best start at that time. It looks like he's outdone himself. This kid should be proud of himself.
  10. Well I see it like this: don't be toooo sad. By him being suspended it didnt give the Twins the opportunity to rush him ala Hicks. Granted they're not the same people but its easy to see the Twins promoting too fast out of desperation and poor roster construction. If he would have earned it then that's a whole different story but that's too many ifs for me.
  11. I commented something to that affect on another thread. I don't really understand how our system is rated so highly or considered so deep. Sure, when healthy, the Twins have a couple of elite and high-end talent (looking at you Buxton, Sano, Meyer, Stewart, Thorpe, Vargas et al), but also some real big disappointments. The big three young pitching prospects that I was excited to follow have failed. Felix Jorge, Yorman Landa, and Randy Rosario, blech. I know there are some people to be excited about, but I have a hard time getting there without our elite guys. Maybe that's just the way it is with this many minor leaguers and perhaps the supposedly less elite systems have even less to follow. I dunno, but I just have the feeling of being underwhelmed. Am I way off base?
  12. Look at Vargas continue to crush! I'm so excited for this guy to make it to the bigs. Taking a quick look at his milb #'s, his history would suggest continued success as he has hit above 300 in each season except last at FM (and 35 games in the GCL). And, unlike other of our switch-hitting friends, is hitting 300+ from both sides. I hope he continues to rake and prop up that NB lineup.
  13. I think the wisest thing for the Twins to do would be to peg Hoffman with the pick. He has nearly as much upside as anyone in this draft and we're unlikely to be in this position again any time soon. Bonus: he'll already have TJ out of the way! I'm not overwhelmed by Jackson or Gordon by any means. It's said that Gordon projects to have an average bat with great athletecism. Does that excite any of you? And where have we seen that combo before? Oh that's right, every year at short for the twins. I digress, thoughts on Hoff at 5?
  14. I feel like this has been a very disappointing minor league season to date. We were hyped on the strength of our minors and it seems that with our two best position prospects yet to play (significantly), it has been a lack luster season. Our low-minors pitching has been deflating. Landa has come out of the pen, Eades is mediocre, Wimmers is getting blown up, and we have not gotten to see Gansalves or Thorpe. Someone talk me off the ledge please! I'll give us this, Slegers is nice, Mildren too, and Berios is hanging in there.
  15. Hey guys - This is my first post on TwinsDaily after following each of your separate blogs for years and TD since its inception. I've been an avid G&G listener and have never missed an episode....until now. I am disappointed with the quality of this podcast. It seems as Aaron's social exploits have increased, the quality has decreased. Where once you talked Twins, now it's how much Gleeman drank in Uptown, what inane thing he said to the bartender at Stella's, or something similar. I'm sure most listeners are happy that you have improved yourself Aaron, and have overcome social anxiety, but the show has suffered. I for one (of the 14,000) will not listen anymore. I may check back in a few weeks to see if it is more of the same. And maybe that is what the show is now and I should adjust my expectations appropriately. I hope that's not the case though. Thanks and love the site.
