  1. Loyalty is usually an admirable quality. Unfortunately it's sometimes a liability for Gardy.
  2. After facing the baffling Tanaka yesterday, the Twins face rookie Chase Whitley. He was a late draft choice for the Yankees, was used mostly as a reliever in college and the minors, and appears to be a pitch to contact kind of guy. I think we get a lot of runs today, and even the struggling HRubel and Mauer pick it up. We may need the runs too, because I'm concerned Hughes returns to earth pitching in Yankee Stadium. Although the Yanks' lineup doesn't look very formidable with Texeira out. Twins win 9-5
  3. Thanks for that, Stringer. I'm not surprised that the hitting was so poor in May...Willy and Arcia were out most of the month, and we saw a historically terrible Joe Mauer. We should expect better hitting going forward with these three situations amended. The sub-4 May ERA really surprised me though. That's middle of the pack in the AL. If that can hold up, and the hitting improves to what I think the mean is, we should be able to linger around .500. I would be delighted with that.
  4. Stringer, he has been gritty... I'll give you that. And I have to admit my hope was for a good enough performance this year to lead to a profitable trade in July. I just don't think that's going to happen though. He still has a .312 BAA and a 1.52 WHIP, both worse than his already modest career numbers. It's going to be tough to generate a lot of interest with that. I think we need to put his last three games in perspective too. I didn't see the Texas game, but I watched today and was in San Diego for the Padres game. Today he was very fortunate to come out the way he did, with great Twins defense and poor Yankee base running offsetting the 10 runners he put on in 6 innings. And San Diego didn't field a big league lineup that night. The highest batting average of their 4-9 hitters that night was .206! And they still knocked him around pretty good in the 5th. I like KC and admire what he does with substandard stuff, but if the BAA stays above .300, I don't know how much longer Gardy can continue to run him out there. If Johnson continues to shine in AAA (not to mention May, and even Meyer) I see a DFA within a month.
  5. Better than I thought. Tanaka is really tough...Legit Cy Young candidate
  6. Maybe. Now that I think of it, we're blaming the wrong guy. Burton has to be there.
  7. Admit it...doesn't it feel weird having someone other than Rivera coming in for the save?
  8. I know. But wasn't infield fly called? Otherwise, Plouffe can drop it and we might turn 2.
  9. Am I the only one thinking evil thoughts right now about Joe's strikeout with runners at 2nd and 3rd? On the other hand, does the taller Joe catch McCann's liner?
  10. I know...it was a gritty performance. But god it was tough to watch
  11. I don't like getting thrown up on...but I thought that was just me getting in touch with my feminine side.
  12. May be the best defensive game of the year for our squad
  13. Escobar! Good thing Jetes doesn't run like he used to.
  14. She was clearly too high maintenance. (assuming your move was unintentional?)
  15. Good observation. So let's summarize. Base hit to right, first baseman doesn't set up for the cutoff, right fielder throws the ball ten feet up the line. And it all works out...clean living!!!!
  16. I don't think he did either, tibs, but if you and Gibby are giving him a pass, I'm not with you on this one. I noticed the entire team congratulated Arcia as he came to the dugout, but I don't think Gardy joined in. Arcia's mistake was negated by more horrid baserunning.
  17. Twins defense helps Correia in the best bullet-dodging performance of the season. Arcia has a cannon, but the fact is we got a little lucky...he missed the cutoff man.
  18. Ha, I'm watching the YES feed, and the NY announcers acted like it was gone too!
  19. KC's defense really bailing him out this inning. Can he keep dodging bullets until he gets to 100 pitches?
  20. Me too...keeps everyone loose in the dugout too. I remember all his Chisox teammates being upset when he was traded. I get that now.
  21. I used to love to watch Hrbek make that back to the infield play so effortlessly...best I ever saw at it. Nice play, Parms, to get the first out!
  22. In the interest of keeping it real, Mauer DID 4-6-3 on a first pitch fastball. But on the other hand, it was by far his best hit ball of the day, and he did pull it. Despite the bad result, I'm glad he did it.
  23. Love the interview with Doziery on YES talking about his admiration for Jeter. I see Jeter-like tendencies in Brian.
  24. I was just going to say that KC had settled in, but I still had a feeling of impending doom. Kinda like sitting comfortably in the dentist chair during a root canal, but worrying about awful things that might happen.
