  1. Chippy. Chippy? CHIPPY! I take offense to that! Put up your dukes! Those are fightin' words!
  2. OK, so here we are 10 games over .500. Feeling all good about ourselves, etc. So, I thought I would take a walk on the other side of the street today and went to the Chicago Tribune site to read about our favorite team to hate. I snickered a bit as the headline read - White Sox still patiently awaiting signs that could point to postseason. I realize that it's only June 3, but if the experts are predicting that the Twins will fall back to earth and miss the playoffs, ya gotta love the optimism in Chicago after a 15-2 loss, last in the AL in runs scored, mediocre (I'm being kind) ERA, but still talking postseason! Whoooooooo! I want that Koolaid.
  3. I don't see where Arcia really would appeal to a NL team like the Reds. As you guys have pointed out, his defense is a negative. His only value is a lefty bat that can hit the long ball. If we are looking for a suitor for Arcia, we need to find a team in need of some pop off the bench...a DH...some lefty power...oh, wait, that's us! Don't get me wrong, I would move Arcia in a trade if I could, but I don't see the Reds wanting him.
  4. All good points...winning cures everything! The part about Tori's mentoring in April was frustrating because he had no one to mentor at that time. Hicks and Rosario were both in the minors. I like the current outfield. Wish that Hicks had tied it last night, but it was a solid AB against a pitcher that was dealing.
  5. Hey, if I thought we could trade Santana and get out of that contract, I'd do that in a heartbeat over trading Pelf.
  6. If I didn't think we had people waiting in the wings who could handle the load, I would agree. However, with a number of candidates waiting to step in, it makes the most sense to trade the guy who is a- performing above any level he has in the past and b - in the last year of his contract. It's just a business decision, not anything against the guy or in any way thinking that the Twins won't keep this up. My only concern would be what effect it has on the clubhouse.
  7. Let me clarify on Pelfrey. If you think that he is going to continue to pitch at this level and lead the Twins to the playoffs, by all means, keep him, but realize that he is probably gone next year. If you think he is more likely to digress and you feel that you could net a good prospect for him, trade him. I think the odds of the latter are more likely.
  8. Exactly. Trading Nolasco with his contract will get very little and will cost the Twins a healthy penny. Trading Pelf at this stage of his contract with his peripherals is more likely to net a higher return. Sell high!
  9. I'm not a fan of 32 year old pitchers...unless they are on PEDS! The stats just don't favor 32 year old pitchers just like they don't favor 30 year old running backs in the NFL. I didn't like the signing because of his age. The PEDs just soured me even further.
  10. There seems to be a lot of people assuming that Santana will be good when he comes back from suspension. The reality is that the guy tested positive for PEDS. His stats for the last who knows how many years may have been bolstered by PEDS. We don't know. What I do know is that assuming that a 32 year old pitcher coming off suspension for PEDS is going to be good is not realistic. That is one reason to keep Nolasco. If you are going to trade a pitcher, Pelfrey makes more sense.
  11. Not negative. Just unprintable. I'm staying away from Stauffer's sausage, Esco's sausage, and every other Twin's sausage. Enough said.
  12. There are about 20 responses running thru my mind right now....19 of them can't be posted.
  13. Here's another article that I think is fair. http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/58782/twins-exceptional-start-relies-on-exceptional-execution I had no idea that the Twins had faced so many lefties and I would guess that Arcia is perceived as part of the answer to the righties. Also, it is very fair to look at teams from last year with similar records and what happened to them...but I'm still gonna ride this wave as long as I can.
  14. I found the article both interesting and humorous at the same time. Look, I'm a numbers guy as much as anyone. I love to analyze them into the ground. I've also played on bad teams with good chemistry and good teams bad chemistry. Which do you think won more games? The Twins have great chemistry right now. They believe in each other and they have some swagger. The Royals had it last year and still have it. There is no statistical analysis that can take chemistry and swagger into account. These guys play 162 games in a year. It drags. It gets old. The travel stinks....but teams with chemistry look forward to coming to the ball park and having fun together. They play with a unity and purpose that teams with more talent don't. Throw Arod into our locker room and see what happens. Sure the Twins might come back down to earth...but what if they don't?
  15. Yeah, I keep assuming that as soon as Arcia is ready, that Stauffer is gone and that is the only reason he is still around.
  16. What thinks of Arcia up for Stauffer AND Pinto up for Hermann? You could then platoon the DH between Arcia and Pinto. Arcia most of the time with righties and Pinto for the lefties.
  17. Totally agree...but that makes waaaay too much sense.
  18. I get what the author is saying. The Royals have scored 3 runs more than the Twins, but the Twins have allowed 191 runs compared to 169 for the Royals. He is saying that the 28-18 record of both doesn't match up with the run differential. The Royals have a run differential of +46, the Twins have a run differential of +21. But here is what the author ignored - the Twins had a run differential of -29 after one week, a turn around of +50. In short, I disagree with the author. The Twins run differential does justify their record...if you consider where they were after the first week.
  19. What did Crash Davis say? Respect the streak. The Twins are on a roll. Stuff like this doesn't happen often. 28-18 and 27-12 after that awful start. I don't even want to think about bringing in Santana or bringing up a bat or a reliever. Don't mess with the clubhouse chemistry and most of all, respect the streak. Wear the same socks, go thru the same routine, keep the same guys in the clubhouse.
  20. Do you think other teams fear/respect the Twins or do they still think they will just come in and kick us around?
  21. Will Molly put Dozier and Hunter in motion with Mauer at the plate?
  22. KC losing to the hated Yankees. A chance to pick up a game. Really enjoying seeing Detroit in third place. Kind of nice that the media is so focused on the Yankees losing that no one has noticed the Twins winning.
  23. Didn't we get Esco in that trade to the ChiSox?
