  1. Ah, 20-20 hindsight. Such a beautiful thing. You make what seems to be the best decision with the information you have at the time. Sometimes* circumstances change. *Pretty much always.
  2. Guy I know who plays the banjo has said, "I have a sure fire way to turn you into a millionaire by playing the banjo. Begin with two million and start playing a lot of gigs."
  3. Sounds like the rest of us only need to come up with 1.4999 Billion if you're already in.
  4. Budget question: Has anyone from the Twins actually said they are looking to keep the same budget as this year? All I've heard is that they they've said they won't be reducing the budget. It's easy to hear that as "keep it the same," but that's not what "won't be reducing" means. Said another way, if this year was $130M and they keep their word, they are saying next year won't be $120-$125M, but not precluding it being $135-$140M. (And I get that people are in a bad mood about the FO these days, so we tend to read the worst into a statement. I'm not asking for commentary with my question -- I'm just asking if there've been actual statements that I've missed.)
  5. I get where you went with this, but if you were going to use that argument, I'd suggest that Willi Castro is a better choice. Whereas SWR went 133 innings (and 28 starts), with a 99 ERA+ that protected us from seeing more of Varland, Matthews and Festa, Castro went a similarly average 102 OPS+, but actually led the team in plate appearances and saved us from a lot more of some combination of Julien, Margot, Martin, Farmer and Lee.
  6. Which I also started, about three weeks ago. šŸ˜€ But thanks, I hadn't seen that there have been responses in the last couple days.
  7. Thanks. Do you know where a list is? I haven't been able to find one.
  8. I don't know the number of folks that need to be protected from Rule 5, but freeing up his roster spot would also be a benefit.
  9. There's probably a couple non-tender candidates in the mix -- Castillo, Tonkin, maybe Kirilloff. Also, Alcala already has a contract for $1.5M. If he's double-counted and already in your $93M, those four knock $6M off your total.
  10. Spotrac has him listed as Arb 1 (of four years) as a Super-Two player.
  11. Places I've seen list Correa at $37.333M this year, rather than $36M as is listed in the OP. But what's a little over a million between friends?
  12. There's another option that I haven't seen anyone mention. There's a one-year spike in Correa's salary. That it comes in year 3 of a six-year deal suggests that they had some creative conversation to create an uneven pay flow*. He also wants to win. How about going Bobby Bonilla on him and working with Mr. Boras to create a mutually beneficial deferred compensation package that gives Correa the same value in today's dollars in exchange for taking just $25M of that money this year? Or something of that nature. *Or maybe Correa's Adjustable Rate Mortgage has a balloon payment coming due in 2025? Okay, probably not.
  13. Yes. That figure is closer to what I was remembering than the $122M in the OP.
  14. Lewis, Castro and Topa should be labeled as "arbitration." Miranda and Varland should be listed as "team control." The dollar figures are probably about right for each of them, however.
  15. Actually, it was $5.25 million, further boosting your premise. šŸ˜€
  16. They have a team option for $4 million, but the Rays are responsible for the buyout.
  17. Just so we're clear... I'm rooting for wins by KC and Arizona.
  18. I’m holding out for a Ginsu knife.
  19. Mediocre is that Cleveland lost five times to the White Sox. That's more than the Twins, Royals and Detroit combined. Do they even deserve to be in the playoffs, let alone get a first-round bye, if they lose that many to the worst team in modern baseball history? šŸ˜€
  20. Thanks -- that was nice indeed.
  21. I'm watching their postgame show. Bip Roberts actually began the show in tears as they started to reflect.
  22. I have not. I'll look on YouTube, but do you have a link?
