  1. I think the fact that the media takes an interest in pro athletes personal lives has changed things. Personally I don't see anything wrong with idolizing an athlete for what they do in their profession but the role model for living life should really come from parents/grandparents and friends/other family members, and I think the world is lacking in that department. I lost my train of thought while typing that on my phone so I hope it makes sense :-0
  2. I am think Gardy and Franc-y are having a good old fashioned manager duel. Winner gets to try and revive all the corpses watching the game.
  3. I like the Garver inclusion but I think there needs to be some room at the bottom for Stuart Turner.
  4. I've wondered about concussion effects too, does anyone know how much, if any, effect it could have on one's depth perception? I haven't watched every game but a few times I've seen Joe not quite get to a foul pop fly by, what looks like, misjudging where its coming down. Could be sun related or any number of things, but depth perception issues could explain the higher number of swing-and-misses we've seen this year. Again, it's all speculation but after the years of taking a beating by the local media and fans for being "soft" maybe he's trying to play through (and hide) something to shed that label cause there's no "catching is tough on the body" playing first base.
  5. As much as Pino earned a look, I really hope it's a short look and May gets the call soon. He has nothing left to prove at AAA and he could potentially solidify the back side of the rotation this season (he could also end up as Boof Bonser 2.0 which would make us all a little sad).
  6. And here are those observations... Chris King @StatsKing · 18h Looking back at my chart for Berrios, it's crazy how he locates down and to both sides with all pitches. Rarely finds the heart of the plate Chris King @StatsKing · 19h Sano just sat down in front of me. Any messages you guys want me to pass on to him? Chris King @StatsKing · 19h Berrios though 6. This kid is pounding the zone low with almost every pitch. FB sat 92-94 in the 6th topping out at 95 with life. #Twins Chris King @StatsKing · 19h Berrios is through 5. Labored a bit in the 5th but was able to work around a lead off walk unharmed. Velo holding fine. #Twins Chris King @StatsKing · 20h Most impressive thing so far from Berrios is he can miss bats with 3 pitches and command the hell out if them. #Twins Chris King @StatsKing · 20h Berrios' first mistake of the night gets taken over the RF wall by Maxx Tissenbaum. Left a FB up over the plate #Twins #Rays Chris King @StatsKing · 20h Berrios going right after guys. Sequencing is very strong. Using the SL against LH off the FB. Throwing all his pitches for strikes #Twins Chris King @StatsKing · 20h Berrios breezed through the 2nd in order. Broke out both breaking balls. 79 12/6 CB followed by 84 power breaking ball. #Twins Chris King @StatsKing · 21h Berrios 93-96; life; top 97; moving up and down in and out; painting; 12 pitches 10 strikes; 10 fastballs 2 hard CB's
  7. On top of the limited use of his slider, he's, what 19?, going against hitters that are 21-23. Regardless of his K rate right now, the kid IS dominating against older competition (they haven't hit him much at all). As he gets stronger, the use of his slider will go up along with the K's and he might develop one of his other pitches as an out pitch along the way.
  8. Kolek just flat out scares me. When's the last time a high school pitcher who throws 100 made it out of A ball? I hope they stay away from him...
  9. Here's a list of the Top 10 Third Baseman by WAR (from baseball reference) 1 Mike Schmidt HOF 106.5 2 Eddie Mathews HOF 96.4 3 Wade Boggs HOF 91.1 4 George Brett HOF 88.4 5 Chipper Jones 85.0 6 Ron Santo HOF 70.4 7 Brooks Robinson HOF 78.3 8 Paul Molitor HOF 75.4 9 Adrian Beltre 71.9 10 Scott Rolen 70.0 And for some reason bbref had Beltre #8 ahead of Molitor, not sure why. Maybe they took Molly down a notch for not really playing third base for a long time? I'm a little surprised that Scott Rolen ranks so high... Unlike the NBA, I can't discount a players credentials for lack of WS rings, a player is just 1/25th of a team. A single player can't be responsible for winning the WS.
  10. 4 Gold Gloves 4 Top 10 MVP Finishes 72 Career WAR (from baseball-reference) Closing in on 2500 hits and 400 HRs. 1st ballot? 2nd ballot?
