  1. Yep. I love Santana but if his stock remains high it's time for the trade. With only 1 year left on his deal there will be suitors this time, the risk of him falling off a cliff and being stuck with him is lower.
  2. Rincon was legit for a while. So was Romero. The two of them were key assets on some very successful Twins teams. I crossed it out for a different reason, because it's not proper.
  3. What's surprising is that this is surprising. Most pitchers who had no hitters are "legit." Most pitchers who stick around as long as Santana has are "legit." Most pitchers who juice are "legit." To me, this proves that a lot of Twins fans get stuck looking at stats that are less relevant. When I looked at Santana I always saw a rising star, provided he remained healthy. So while many of you looked at FIP and claimed Nolasco was a great pick up, I looked at other things and predicted Santana was a great pick up (and called Nolasco a stupid move from the get-go). Ya'll gotta look deeper at these things.
  4. The only thing serious about SDI is that it is seriously flawed, but that's a discussion we probably should not get into again. Dozier is below average in some defensive categories but he's not as bad as SDI claims (because SDI counts each trait multiple times with the result being an inverted bell curve). To answer the question "How much can the defense improve" -- quite a bit. It's a young team that was at or near the worst in the league. There are two options -- stay the same (not likely given their age) or get better. There will be some clown defense at 3B which we will just have to accept, otherwise I think this team will start showing itself to be very good defensively.
  5. Though very sunny it is indeed chilly today in Chicago. Both baseball stadiums in town tend to get miserably cold when this time of year when it is windy and there is enough wind for that to be the case today. The games over the weekend however should be perfect, 60s and 70s.
  6. Dominos also has a NY style crust. Does this make them an authority on NY Pizza too?
  7. That's a fairly accurate representation of the walking traffic in downtown Chicago during rush hour.
  8. Deep dish in Chicago is not like that. You're describing Domino's style deep dish crust, which is a thick bread.
  9. The Twins have to play well against a couple of more teams before we can get truly excited. But 3-0 certainly doesn't hurt.
  10. Chicago really does sport a more NY style of pizza plus the deep dish pizza outsiders associate with Chicago. When it comes to deep dish, there is no one style in the city. Malnati's deep dish crust is thin and crispy with a gigantic single piece of centimeter-thick cheese on it with sauce and other toppings on top of that. It's lightly sauced, it's all about the huge slab of cheese. They also sport pizzas with the thin crust cut into squares. Other Chicago deep dish pizza joints have less cheese but instead as much sauce is they can put on. These are less tasty and less like "pizza." Regardless, the "deep dish" one gets at Dominos (or whatever) bears no resemblance to the local deep dish pizza joints in Chicago. In any case, what Chicagoans consider to be their mainstay is the hot dog, which is also different from hot dogs elsewhere (no ketchup, lots of relish).
  11. It's interesting that cats are afraid of brooms and vacuums, but once you pull out a swiffer they have to get right in there.
  12. He still looks just as lost at the plate as Aaron Hicks looked. Gotta drop him down the order again until he calms down.
  13. Just remember that Santana won't be pitching every day. And even he received a bit of help today from the defense.
  14. According to Statcast, Buxton had the best defensive play in (statcast) history. He may as well retire. It's all downhill now.
  15. It seems crazy that Park would hit 24 home runs in half of a season. Are you sure that's not a typo?
  16. Why wouldn't you have the fastest player in the league bunt? The Twins may as well trade the kid off if they don't know how to use him properly. If the situation calls for it and the other team is out of position, Buxton should bunt! Whether that happens every 10 games or every 3 games, who cares?
  17. .250 - .265 / .320 - .335 / .425 - .445 17 HR, 27 2B, 7 3B If you have read my other predictions, you will see a lot of these players profile the same way. It could be argued that the Twins have a weakness in that most of the players are not only at the same point in their careers but also profile as being the same types of hitters.
  18. Halladay also knew how to throw it down and away when he needed to mix things up. This seems to be a common theme among pitchers who manage to stick around a while.
  19. Great point. You need to be working in a FO.
