Article: Opportunity Cost
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not so much concerned that they wasted $417,000, but glad that they have the type of relationship with Pohlad that they could pivot to Lynn even though it was a waste of $417,000.- 66 replies

Article: Twins 2018 Position Analysis: Shortstop
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Some interesting takes at Fangraphs about defense in this age of increased three-true-outcomes and fewer balls in play as well as fly ball revolution. Maybe an adequate defensive SS with a better bat is becoming easier and easier to run out there every day.- 23 replies

I hear you. Obviously it isn't an offer commensurate with historical standards for a pitcher of his caliber, but this offseason hasn't really gone the same as in the past either. Morrison's deal probably would have been seen as insulting in prior years too given he's coming off a 38-homer season, but that is where the market is these days and the Twins signed him because they made the offer.
-
Maybe the 2/20 was prompted on their end. Asked the Twins if they'd be willing to make an offer. Being less than overly excited about Lynn the response was we'd be in at 2/20, which was then a non-starter from Lynn's side. I can't imagine the Twins were aggressively pursuing him and then only come in with a 2/20 offer.

Article: What's Next For Kennys Vargas?

I'm fully on-board with Morrison, but I do feel bad that this likely means Vargas is not around for the games in his home country of Puerto Rico.- 65 replies

Article: Minnesota's Winter Of Discontent
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I trust Falvey, Levine, and crew know what they are doing. I'm sure they place a value and acquisition cost (dollars or prospects) on everyone and are sticking to it. I don't think anyone around the game thinks that Falvey, Levine, or some of the nice front office hires are 'clueless.' Can't force Ohtani or Darvish to come here. Can't force the Pirates or Rays to take a package they don't want for their guys. Also, a quick note on the free agent pitching market, only 1 (Darvish) of the consensus top 4 is off the table. Lot of free agents still out there. I would like to see how the rest of the market shakes out. -
I don't think the ideal right-handed bat is out there on the free agent market, and I think with the switch-hitters on the roster it isn't a must. It will be interesting the next few weeks to see if the market develops. If the 1B/DH market lags I would like to see the Twins try and swoop in on Logan Morrison if they can get him on an affordable deal. I know he is left-handed, but I'd take him over Vargas in a heartbeat, and if we're talking strictly replacing Vargas as the left-handed side of a DH platoon, then I'd take Lucas Duda or Adam Lind over Vargas too if the price for this type of player stay low.

Article: Supplementing the Twins: A Bat for Hire
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I've been pondering Frazier lately. With Sano's leg injury I wonder if that fit (or a 3B capable player) makes the most sense. I've commented elsewhere that I'm interested in Howie Kendrick. Checks some boxes. Right-handed, plays corner OF and some IF, brings veteran voice to clubhouse, probably won't be too expensive.- 47 replies

Article: Supplementing The Twins: A Rotation Trio
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm leery of career national leaguers like others have posted as well. I'm sure there are probably 29 other teams with similar thoughts, but it'd be interesting if they could sell Chris Tillman on a short-term reasonable salary deal. Maybe he'd like to get out of Baltimore/AL East for a season or two and try again for a bigger payday. Or Michael Pineda on a deal with a team option for 2019 so if he comes back solid from Tommy John at the end of 2018 they'd have him for 2019. -
Article: Hildenberger (And Gee) Gets The Call
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I hear you. I don't even really see this as Gee/Hildenberger vs. Melotakis decision. I see it more as a Turley vs. Melotakis decision. Even after those three big league starts the FO is keeping Turley and DFA'ing Melotakis. Interesting.- 103 replies

AWOLNATION_11 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm referring to them not adding him back to the 40 & 25-man rosters for opening day as many folks were clamoring for. AAA performance has justified the move (or non-move for that matter).- 103 replies

I'll hold off on too much judgement for the time being. FO was right about Park at the end of Spring despite catching grief and after a night of flak on day 1 of the draft really showed us the rest of the way.- 103 replies

Article: Twins Claim LHP Adam Wilk From Mets
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't mind them using these stop-gap guys. The Tepesch, Rucinski, Wilk moves all just look like the FO is buying some time and don't want to be forced to add Slegers, Wimmers, etc. to the 40-man in case it doesn't go well. Would really tie their hands at that point because the 40-man would be full of guys we won't be able to get back through waivers. I'd like to see Berrios or Mejia too, but I would imagine the FO has a plan in place for those two and want to stick to it. Also interesting how quickly some folks are ready to turn back to Gibson. -
Article: Draft Preview: Five to Focus On
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not going to bet anything and I'll admit I have not studied up on the history of college coaches abusing their pitchers. I was mostly trying to point out that Faedo approaching 120 pitches in this specific game seems to be more a result of how the last few batters played out versus a predetermined plan to have him throw 119 pitches.- 89 replies

Article: Draft Preview: Five to Focus On
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Going for the complete game win. If the kid is a stud and can stay effective beyond 100 pitches, I like that. I'm not Blyleven, but I do have to say I'm not a fan of the arbitrary 100 pitches get him out of there mentality. I'll sit back and read as this comment gets ripped apart the rest of the day.- 89 replies

Article: Draft Preview: Five to Focus On
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Seems a little unfair. According to the article there was a two-out error and then a full count walk. He was looking at a complete game at around 110 pitches before the error. Coach probably wanted to give him one more batter to finish it off and it happened to be a full-count walk.- 89 replies

Kid did hit .346 with an .862 OPS in the Arizona Fall League last year. Maybe too short of sample-size to matter, but I feel like that is something to be optimistic about. -
I have fond memories of Rondizzle. On the way to that postseason game, one of the guy's in our car told me he'd buy me supper if Rondizzle hit a home run that game. Whammy! Free supper!

Article: Like It Or Not, May Is Bullpen Bound
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"Unless something changes, he is probably going to be a guy I want to keep out in the bullpen," Still December. Something can change. I'm glad the Twins have a guy that is considered good enough to be an impact player in either role. -
Article: What Holes Still Must Be Filled?
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In all likelihood Arcia will be lifted late for defense, hopefully reducing the negative impact there. Unless Arcia's bat shows to be too valuable to lift, which would be good news. As for the pitching. Not hard to imagine a hammy, a lat strain or something worthy of a DL stint but not season ending that could impact the opening day rotation and bullpen. I don't see the need to get concerned just yet.
