  1. Nick, your December article on Darvish was spot on. The Twins whiffed on a huge opportunity to sign him. Thoughts?
  2. I trust the consensus in this case. The broad picture being painted by my side seems accurate enough; that is, a passive offer of 5/110 or so with no frills. I admit we just don't know the specifics yet.
  3. Berrios and Buxton are far and away the priorities. And they will be nine figure deals.
  4. This was that price drop. I don't know how it can be claimed otherwise.
  5. Remember at the start of the offseason, the Twins said they were prepared to make Darvish the highest paid Twin. That would be roughly $25 mil average for the length of the contract.
  6. Just our luck, now we've got puppy dogs hijacking threads. What is this worl---- Hey wait, bring on the puppies!
  7. Aside from the rest of this fiasco, I do believe Berrios has the makeup of a future ace. Not to the level of the multiple-Cy Young winners like Kershaw or Scherzer, but certainly in some Cy Young conversations.
  8. McHugh might turn out ok, though not great, but there's no reason to offer anything of much value for McHugh after having passed on Gray and Cole, and therefore not much reason for Houston to begin a negotiation with the Twins to part with McHugh if Houston expects the Twins will offer little in return. Peacock isn't going anywhere that I can see, though I admit have no idea what Houston needs or how to evaluate that one.
  9. I can't wait for the Twins to offer Bryce Harper a 5/110 next offseason
  10. I do think the best way to spin this is that Falvey and Levine are young, naive and still pretty inexperienced at this.
  11. I thought I would wake up to the news that the Twins signed Cobb. He's the contingency, right? Is Cobb also refusing to offer the Twins a discount? Damn him!
  12. Joking aside, if the Twins offered Darvish 5/135 plus the opt out, why wouldn't Darvish take that?
  13. That makes no sense, that players only sign with the teams they were fans of as children, or something.
  14. or even the Twins Daily projected contract of 5/135, which still seems like a bargain to me
  15. Just curious, but what do you mean, you can't blame him?
  16. Yes. If you have followed this story from the beginning, then you should know that those big market teams were not making serious offers. They admitted as much.
  17. Thanks. Me too*. *just trying to cycle out some cynicism
  18. In hindsight now, do you think that offer would have gotten it done, with maybe a little creativity added in, such as an opt out and Cy Young Winner bonuses?
  19. Is that the incentive bonus - Cy Young awards? crikey.
  20. Well, right, but the Twins could have offered those same incentives and opt-out. I don't see how the Twins front office comes out of this looking like they did everything they could. Short of "Darvish never wanted to play here" in which case it calls Levine's professed relationship with Darvish into question. And the Twins could still certainly salvage their offseason.
  21. If the market cannot support a 6/126 contract, then why were fans told this was a serious negotiation? I would genuinely like some thoughtful responses.
  22. who specifically would be elite but accept a one year deal
  23. Because assuming reports are accurate, Darvish accepted a weak offer.
