  1. I think we really need to read the full blog - just because someone objectively looks at Mauer, doesn't equal Mauer bashing. He says Mauer is the most accomplished hitter "by far" and he needs to start hitting like he has in the past. Can't see how anyone would not agree to that statement.
  2. I have a questions: Isn't it just the players who get added to the 40 man on Wednesday can’t be removed until at least spring training? So you need to have player like Albers, Fryer and Colabello on your 40 man roster that will clear waivers and remain in your system and allow you to make moves before spring training. If someone is picked during the draft they have to stay on major league team for the year, if you drop someone from your 40 man roster after the draft team just need to put them on their 40 man roster.
  3. Torii missed games after crashing into walls - who on this team would crash into a wall to make a play? This team has packed it in 3 September's in a row and their club house leadership has not shown a lot of heart to get out and play. I doubt Hunter would consider coming back, why sign with a team that is going to lose 90 games? But the Twins need some players who will run through a wall, or call out teammates if they are not giving 100%.
  4. Twins are becoming like the Timberwolves - a County Club environment for the management. If the team wins - it because of Gardy, if they lose - it's the players fault. If they lose in the playoff's, how can we expect them to beat the Yankees and there payroll. The team has quit 3 years in a row during the second half and the coaching staff is not held responsible.
  5. [besides the injury issue, you have to ask: Would the Twins be better with Mauer at first and Pinto behind the plate or Mauer behind the plate and Parmelee/Calobello at first? I think the former. As some have said, Mauer's wishes are irrelevant. Let's make the best team we can with what we have. And I have a hard time believing he wouldn't do what is in the team's best interest. Agree, the Twins need to do what's best for the team, not what make Mauer more likely to get voted into the HOF or what he wants. I'm sure he wants to win and keeping him on the field and making the best lineup is the best way to do that.
  6. I don't see any reason to cut ties with Hendriks. We have plenty of room on the 40 man roster and he only 1 year older than our top pitching prospects Meyer/May who have not pitched above AA. Also after 3-90 lost season, hard to believe we will not have a different coaching staff. Maybe someone else can get through to him.
  7. Mauer is the team leader and he not a vocal leader, he leads by example. And his example has been, he recovers very slowly from injuries. As the Twins tank another September, 80% of Mauer is better than Parmelee or Colabello. Next year if our C & first options are Mauer, Pinto, Parmelee and Colabello - we better see Pinto behind the plate and Mauer at first base. But it seem to be if Joe want to catch, we'll let him catch. If Gardy want to come back and manage, we'll let him. I'm finding a hard time see where the organization has any desire to win in the dugout or the front office. But lose more games, we'll get a higher draft pick. Just as long as they don't get too excited about hitting a game winner home run - we'll sit him for the next 4 games, not the Twins Way.
  8. Hunter had some injuries: 2005 - Broke ankle and torn ligaments crashing into the wall at Fenway park, 2009 - seperated shoulder crashing into the wall at Dodger Stadium. Mauer missed time in 2007 for stress reaction in fibula and 2011 bilateral leg weakness. Really not much of a comparison on the injuries. And I'll remember Torii Hunter in 15 years. I have a feeling that in 2 years we will be complaining about paying Mauer $23 million for his production at first base, hope that doesn't hurt the HOF love.
  9. "I think some people take pain in different ways," Twins center fielder Torii Hunter said. "Some people have to play at 100 percent, and Joe may be one of those guys. I've seen it happen. Joe is a good player, and he wants to perform at 100 percent, not at 80 percent. "Me, I grew up in a different time. I'm ready to play no matter what -- broken toe, hamstring, groin, back -- and that's the mentality I've grown to have." June 2007 Kind of miss the old "Twins Way"
  10. Again, not saying he not a HOF and a great hitter - but an important part of getting RBI is hitting when runners are on base. If I said he has strike out 4 times out of 7 AB's with the bases loaded, I think that would be a small sample size. He produces runs by getting on base (great for a #2 hitter), but he have a subpar year hitting with runner on base. I don't have access to his mental state, but I doubt you either. So saying he might be "Pressing to much" sounds like you making excuses for him. The lack of other people driving in runs doesn't make Mauer's lack of production with RISP better - it's just another excuse you are throwing out. And when has he been over .300 w/RISP this year? Career wise, he has been over .300, but I bet even Mauer would admit he had a down year hitting with RISP.
  11. Not saying he a bad hitter, he having a great year when nobody is on base. But if you are talking about his decrease in RBI, you can't ignore what he is doing when given the opportunity to drive in runs.
  12. Another reason for Joe's lack of RBI, would be his .252 average with runner on (career average is .337) and .243 with RISP (career .336)
