  1. 3. Sign RHP Jake Odorizzi for three years, $36 million If this is Odorizzi market price, he better grab the qualifying offer. $18m for one year, if he does anything he'll get more than another $18m over the next 2 years.
  2. Yes, I believe it's by league. So the Twins would have had preference over the National League.
  3. The Twins would have been one of the last teams to get a waiver claim based on their record. So he seems like someone who they could later put through waivers and open up the 40 man roster spot and still keep him. Nothing wrong if they are just playing the waiver game.
  4. The fact they got players nowhere near the level of our top 2 is my point. If the reporting was correct, they were requiring either Lewis or Kiriloff in the deal. They looked at the rest of our system and were either not offered enough or didn't think anyone else in our system was better than the players the Met's offer unless the Twins included one of the top 2 players. I find it hard to believe Toronto accepted a lesser deal from New York than what the Twins were able to offer just because the Twins wouldn't include Lewis or Kiriloff. They must have not have considered the other Twins prospects at the level of the Met's prospects.
  5. It maybe a questions of can they. At the trade deadline, they only had trade interest in Kiriloff and Lewis. One of them had to be included in the trade to get Marcus Stroman. Considering what he ended up getting traded for, you have to wonder if we overrating the farm system.
  6. I would be surprised if Colorado traded Gray for position players. Colorado is not a park pitchers want to pitch in, so they have tried to develop pitchers. They can always sign position players who want to play in Colorado. If the Twins want Gray, they are going to have to give up pitching prospects. I think Boyd is a more likely option. During the race, nobody wanted to trade major league players, but the off-season is different. If the Twins have confidence in their minor league system, they should be able to make some of the major league talent available.
  7. Agree, they have been successful in converting the top prospects from starter to relief pitchers, but some of the prospects need to develop into MLB caliber starting pitchers. Relief pitching is up and down, so we might want to wait for additional proof before calling the Twins bullpen elite. But it's taken a nice step forward during the second half of the season.
  8. Doesn't Falvey have 2 more years on his contract with the Twins? I'm not sure taking the job is going to be his decision. The Twins would have to agree to let him interview and I'm assuming they would not let him go unless they get compensation.
  9. Is Buxton the key for the Twins winning way? Paul Molitor says Yes
  10. The FO told at the start of the season they were going to wait to see how the season developed before making a big addition. Now we are a contender and have been trading for assets the last 2 years. I think the team as developed a lot faster than they had planned. The first year they sold at the trade deadline and the team go hot and made the playoff. Last year must have thought they were farther away from being a playoff team since they traded assets that would have been great to have this year. It will be very telling of the FO based on what they do this trade deadline. If they are not ready to make a move this year, when will they be ready?
  11. For their career, Sano as a HR every 18.7 PA, Tyler Austin has one every 17.1 PA. In today's game, is his power really anything special? He really needs to provide more.
  12. Sano's upside has become a less durable Adam Dunn. I always hope it would be higher.
  13. If the FO believed this, why not fire Molitor during the year and not trade Pressly? If they believed Pressly was going to be this good, they would not have traded him. It had nothing to do with Molitor. Trading Pressly is just another example of the FO misreading their team. They either didn't plan on contending this year or didn't believe in Pressly, so they took the best offer. In 2017, instead of adding at the deadline, the traded players away players and end up getting hot and making the playoffs. This isn't an attempt to jump on the FO, the Twins are having a great year so far and there is time to fix the bullpen. Now they have to start acting as contenders instead of rebuilding.
  14. Agreed, as long as they don't stubbornly hold on to that player and gift them a roster spot.
  15. Perez is this year's rule 5 pick for the FO. They are determined to show everyone they can find someone nobody else could.
  16. With Sano's injury history, it's nice to have a backup plan.
  17. Like all the great, he goes by just one name
  18. According to Forbes, for luxury tax purpose the benefit expense was $14,044,700 per team. For what I can see, revenue is around $260 million, which would put payroll around $135 million if they spent 52%, which is right around what they spent in 2018 Given the teams struggles and ticket sales, I would expect they are budgeting less revenue in 2019. https://www.forbes.com/sites/maurybrown/2018/12/17/final-mlb-payrolls-for-all-30-teams-show-second-largest-decline-since-2004/#381115fe474a
  19. The Twins revenue is below the league average, so the expectation would be salaries would also be below average. Based on a comparison of the league salary and league attendance, it looks like the Twins payroll has been right where you would expect it to be. Rank Rank Rank Year Payroll Attendance Revenue 2018 21 20 21 2017 19 24 2016 23 25 2015 20 21 2014 24 22 2013 23 21 2012 12 14 2011 11 9
  20. Herrera's 2 year contract was too long for the Boys, glad we got another 1 year deal done - still keeping our options open
  21. What do you think his trade value would be? You picked him up last year for a marginal minor league player when he had 2 years of team control. Last year was a continuation of his downward slide and he would be more expensive with the extension.
  22. As much as I would like to see the FO start committing to some players longer than 1 year, I don't think committing to a back of the rotation starter is the place to start. The 40 man roster is full of younger potential 4th & 5th starter. And I believe the FO's was also suppose to be great at developing pitching, why commit to Odorizzi for 3 years?
  23. If the batter is in the batters box, it's the catcher responsibility to move back enough so he doesn't get hit in the head.
