  1. Yeah, and as per usual, I fell asleep around the 7th inning stretch. Missed the 9th inning rally and Plouffsie's walk-off in the 10th. But surely the game-thread was hoppin'.
  2. And the horse they rode in on.
  3. Good to have you back.Armed and dangerous.
  4. My wife and I own and operate The Clothing Company. Marked 25 years in business this spring. The Slumberland people are groovy.
  5. Two things... 1. Debra Allison stopped by my store in Huron this morning. She's a local girl married to Bob Allison's oldest son, Mark, who runs the Allison Foundation. Earlier this season, I mentioned her among several area people with Twins connections, but was stumped on which son she married. Now we know. 2. "Holy flying bad actors, Batman! Look! Steven Seagal has sprouted wings and is flying directly overhead! And there's more than one of him... there's two, five, a dozen, fifty!" "Don't fret, my young friend. Steven's on our side. He's learned to clone himself, just like his movies. So he goes by a new name now." "What would that be, Caped Crusader?" "Why, Robin, you should figure that out. He's A Flock of Seagals, naturally."
  6. My Spanish-English dictionary is old, but it sez "ebola" means "hooker red."
  7. Forgot one: The Seaside (Ore.) Seagulls.
  8. Waiting for "Play ball!"... Perhaps this topic has been discussed, and if so, ignore. But given the recent politicization of the Washington Redskins name, I got to thinking about all the team names I've been associated with over the years, and almost all have been large fauna... Polk (Neb.) Cubs Lyons (Neb.) Lions (one of only three towns in the nation that had redundant team names) Wittenberg (Springfield, Ohio) Tigers Jordan Valley. (Ore.) Broncos (iirc) Boise State Broncos Huron (S.D.) Tigers Only one Indian team name: I taught at Boise High School, home of the Braves. Most politically incorrect team name I recall was the Orofino, Idaho, high school team, known as the Maniacs. It was where the insane asylum was located years ago. Worst team name ever: the Heidelberg (Ohio) Student Princes. What were your team names? Remember playing against any teams with fantastic names, or really bad names?
  9. Uh, scratch that thought.
  10. Looking at the standings, and seeing other teams on winning streaks, it made me wonder: Why can't the Twins go on a two- or three-week tears? Other teams do it all the time. Heck, even Houston and San Diego are playing well. Failing that, I really thought we wouldn't fade like the last three years. And then we did. But for reasons I can't put my finger on, I'm really optimistic. And it would be a blast to give the Tigers a good series. They'll be tight. We shouldn't be. That is all.
  11. Remember the episode when Herman and Grandpa show up at a Dodgers practice and Herman creams the ball and they want to sign him up. No idea how it ends. Featured real Dodgers.
  12. Excellent Stengel quote, Mr. Dog.
  13. I like the kids we're playing, and the old dogs are still learning new tricks and playing with some fire, so yeah, I'm still watching with interest. Wasn't the case the previous three seasons when we were uncompetitive the last month. Now we may lose, but are still competing most games. That's important and will reap benefits. Or I hope so, anyway.
  14. Looked it up. Means "hooker red" in swahili.
  15. While waiting for the night's festivities to commence, consider... One of my secret pleasures is, and I blush to say this, the McGarrigle Sisters. (No, haven't been to Lilith Fair. Yet.) But with Anna going on through life without Kate, if she teamed up with Bill Medley, would the new duo be the Righteous Sister? That is all.
  16. Oh, and in unrelated news, it's nil-nil heading into the bottom of 2.
  17. I hear he dabbled as a tubist in college, then became a Lutheran.
  18. No drama today, Perk. I really could use a win this week.
  19. One more job thingy... I worked at the Fotomat in the Magic Kingdom. Waited forever for my prints to come.
  20. Looks like you're about to become the Make A Wish happy story for September so far.
  21. ESPN tells me the 3rd baseman made an error. Maybe we can make the Birds pay for their previous perfidy.
  22. Oooo, oooo, can I play? I repaired windows. What a pain! Ran a morgue. Didn't dig it.
  23. One of my favorite players growing up was Jim Northrup, the Tigers' centerfielder in the 1960s. He still has the record of two grand slams in the same inning. I remember marveling that he had more rbi in one inning than I had all season in Little League. Just a memory.
  24. See your future, Danny. Be... your future. Be the ball, Danny. Hit the ball.
