  1. Over 1/4 of democrats in the house live in right leaning districts? That seems incredibly far-fetched.
  2. I think it's an American issue that we need to face. Surely you can't believe more than 25% of democrats would support a supposedly republican issue. This is bigger than the parties themselves, we have started to fear Muslims and immigrants, or in my mind worse still, lack empathy for people in horrible situations. But I think you and I agree on refugees should most certainly be welcome and we are going to just have to disagree on who exactly should be blamed for this or more importantly to figure out whose minds we need to change.
  3. More than 25% of the house democrats disagree with you.
  4. Sorry, I missed that. But I stand by my original statement Trump is appalling to me. If my options were the Donald and Hillary my head would explode. I have never taken him seriously and am surprised he still polls well.
  5. I know it was spearheaded by Republicans, but 47 Democrats in the house voted in lock-step with the Republicans on this one. Again I think we should take in refugees most certainly, but I think painting this as a Republican issue is an oversimplification and more divisive than true.
  6. Is anyone actually calling for this? My apologies if I missed, not trying to be snarky just curious. I lean right on most social issues, but I would be appalled if somebody was actually endorsing this. Unlike many of my conservative counterparts I am in favor of taking in refugees. But, I do think this is more a symptom of the problem and not the problem itself. It would be similar, in my mind at least, taking in Jewish refugees in World War 2, and sticking with some very systematic bombing of Germany, but letting, by doing nothing, Hitler continue to reign. Like I said in the other thread I know it's super complex, but we really need to be doing more, it's appalling what these people are going through. But, shutting off our borders for when people need us the most doesn't seem like the right thing to do. That being said we really need to fix the problem. I know saying it is easier than actually fixing it, but it really needs to be done. At the very least we need to apologize to the refugees as we usher them in for not intervening earlier.
  7. I agree and I feel ashamed by how little we are doing and how little people/the media seems to care until it impacts us directly. I have read stories of people going over to fight with Peshmerga and I can't help but feel compelled to leave my family and kids as a former Marine to help in any way I can. I know I probably won't do it and it would be really tough for my family, but it's something I am battling daily now. It's just heartbreaking what these people are going through on a daily basis and how little we are doing to help.
  8. For sure both parties play that game. I was just pointing out how disingenuous it is.
  9. I just find it humorous when the left fakes outrage over crap their politicians do also.
  10. As to him being a liar you are saying he's indiscernible from Clinton and Obama? Got it.
  11. I think this issue deserves its own thread. VA Benefits are despicable. If Republicans really wanted to beat a drum for the military they should really beat this one much harder than they do. Here is an old link from the NYT, but important because they ended with a quote from me! http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/30/us/doctor-shortages-cited-in-va-hospital-waits.html?_r=0
  12. It was definitely this one for me. http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=350906118 We had a chance to hand Keuchel his first home loss and we were sailing along until the 7th up 2-0. May comes in and is asked to clean up for Duffey with runners on 1st and 2nd. Instead May allows the next 4 batters to reach base including the nail in the coffin grand slam. That one still hurts. But, hopefully we can get the last laugh this year.
  13. I think it's interesting what we choose to use our fake outrage over, when you examine what he was speaking against, Sharia Law. If you think Republicans are against women, homosexuals, and non-religious types you should really read the Sharia. It's horrifying. Clearly we won't agree because both sides are so biased which is what is wrong with politics in general, but I'll make this my last post as I have seemed to ruffle some feathers, which in like Dr. Carson was never my intent.
  14. Great, so you agree with Dr. Carson on this.
  15. I appreciated his stance on it. He's kind of being roasted for it, but I appreciate his consistency. This is why I want a political outsider. It's the same type of stance that you can be pro-life and an advocate of the death penalty. Life is sacred, except when it isn't. Maybe I'm getting jaded as I age, though I would consider myself relatively young, but I just don't find either party very appealing anymore.
  16. I was speaking to the difference that Carson merely wouldn't support someone running for President that is a Muslim, while ChiTown twisted it to not allowing born again Christians to run period, giving no choice for the people to even elect someone of that type.
  17. I get it. Everytime Christians complain about being persecuted I want to send them to Israel to see what persecution looks like. Although I can sympathize that much like the Jewish people the Christian people have kind of become a punching bag that you land blows on that are still off-guards for other religions for whatever reasons.
  18. Also important to notice the subtle difference in your language versus Carson's although very different implications. Carson said he would not advocate a Muslim for president, while you say born again Christians should not be allowed to run. One still allows a choice for the people the other is more in line with communism.
  19. That's kind of my point. This would be much more accepted in our PC run amok society.
  20. It's not like he mentioned it in a prepared speech. He was asked a spinoff question of "Do you believe that Islam is consistent with the Constitution?" I mean seriously how was he supposed to respond to this question, without completely not answering the question. I am going to go ahead and guess if you had read Sharia Law you would have answered the question in a very similar manner, although hopefully more specific and recognizing that not all Muslims follow Sharia Law. So yes there was a very real reason to take a stance for or against it, you know, since he was asked the question. As far as your hitting on the pros I suspect that is why so many are trying to play gotcha games with him because he is not a career politician. It is likely that or race, but I think for the most part it's to try and get rid of the non-establishment types.
  21. I agree with you on most of it, including Carson didn't handle it like I would have preferred. The only thing I would disagree on and perhaps I am giving him too much benefit of the doubt, I don't think he said it to try and drum up support on the anti-Islam stance. From what I know of him and his persona, that is just not his style. In the same way he doesn't really attack the other candidates, he doesn't really go after opponent's issues, but rather prop his up.
  22. Sure, but that's why I don't get why this is all being blown out of proportion, literally everyone in America should agree with him. It's only inflammatory if you want it to be for reasons I discussed earlier.
  23. I find it humorous that both parties try to decide to cheer or boo depending on what he is talking about. Income inequality, abortion, climate change, and same-sex marriage highlight just a few that either party can go from loving him or hating him and claiming he is either 'ignorant' or 'behind the times'. Me, personally as a non-Roman-Catholic I have never really put him on a pedestal or all that much cared what he believed. For some reason many Americans even non-Catholics do care in the same way that people care about what is going on in the Royal Family, yet I don't care at all as either set has very little impact on my life or what I believe.
  24. Thank you this is the point I was trying to make. Although, I did a poor job and am not so eloquent.
  25. Not ironic, some of us just get tired of government overreach and I insure you a proponent of Sharia Law would have some serious implications.
