  1. I don't really see any kind of comparison between Epstein and Falvey. Epstein already had an excellent track record as an executive in MLB before joining the Cubs. There really isn't anything that impresses me about Falvey. He didn't really make any important decisions with the Indians. His education is mediocre so there's no reason to think he's some kind of genius. Sure Epstein can get Jed Hoyer as GM and put together a top notch staff. There's no shortage of people who want to work for him and money is no object with the Cubs. Who's Falvey going to get? The best thing I read about him is that he does everything and is conscientious. Not a bad person to have on the staff, but not really the guy you want running the place. I see no reason to give someone like that the title of President. I would even question the wisdom of making him GM. I don't know the guy of course, so maybe there's something I'm missing. It seems to me that Pohlad found someone he liked on a personal level and is going to hire him. Not exactly the way to make decisions in an ultra competitive environment.
  2. I didn't see 100 losses coming. By compete what I meant was having a team that can make the playoffs. This year was really the perfect storm. In the beginning of the year no one could hit and now towards the end no one can pitch. All that should even out next year, but there's not much they can do to be a contending team.
  3. I haven't commented on the site for a while, but I think we all saw this coming. There's just no way you can compete with this rotation. Hopefully there's help in 2018. If I was the Twin's that's what I'd be aiming towards. It's not happening in 2017. All decisions should keep this in mind.
  4. This would be a good post for the "Kevin Slowey was framed" guy to comment on. I've heard others say that the quick move to the bullpen and then having Gardy use him incorrectly (Having Slowey pitch consecutive days and not giving his arm time to rest) caused Slowey's injury and ruined his career. Hard to say if this is true or not, but there is some compelling evidence if you look at the situation in detail. It's also been said that Slowey's intellectual nature did not sit well with Gardy and others on the coaching staff. Kevin Slowey did score a 1420 on his SAT. Gardy and friends were kind of meat heads so I can definitely see that happening. I'm sure Slowey did question how the Twins were handling his career as well. The biggest correlation in the two situations is the move to the bullpen and the subsequent injuries. One big difference is the May was given more time to transition and used in a more responsible manner. It also shows that the Twins have a history of choosing veteran pitchers over young pitchers. Either way Ryan is already fired, so it's kind of a moot point.
  5. The J.R. Murphy trade could of been worse. Hicks has been terrible. His absence has given other people a chance to play and they have played well. Addition by subtraction. I'm against signing any catchers long term. High end pitching is what this team is going to need to be a contender. We need to save our pennies for free agency in 2018. The longest I'd go on Suzuki would be two years. Other than that, sign a veteran on a one year deal and see if anyone else steps up. I'd also look at using our first round draft pick on a college catcher next year. It's looking like there will be a couple near the top of the draft.
  6. Gomez is regretting those cocktails at lunch
  7. Talent will only take you so far. For Buxton it's triple A. He needs to go down and learn how to become a professional hitter. Many of us didn't want to see him start the year in MLB or be called back up due to injuries. Getting dominated by MLB pitchers has not helped his development. Buxton is a hard worker and he will get it. The guy just needs time. Too bad it wasn't done this year, but we can't fire Ryan twice. We need to have patience. If that means Buxton isn't back up in the majors until next June then so be it.
  8. Nice win! Sano and Rosario each get a home run. Just like the old days back in rookie ball.
  9. Keplers dad- Why doesn't Max swing?
  10. Some of those teams a pretty pathetic. They're pretty tough to not beat
  11. I really hope the Rays put in Jepson. He owes us a few easy runs
  12. The games he hit after the pitcher were probably worse
  13. They could still pull this one out. They were pretty hot recently. Unless Keplers dad freaked everyone out with the constant alien references
  14. That was not a competitive at bat by Buxton. Not sure you could look worse
  15. What are you thinking up there Max? "Nothing" That's how you know things are going well.
  16. I was afraid he was going to pull a Meyer on Berrios and pull him in the first.
  17. I'm calling it. Kepler ....…walks his next at bat. .
  18. Hitting the ball hard every time seems like a good idea
